1500+ Prisoners Doing The Thriller Dance

written by John Chow on July 28, 2007

Remember that Wedding Thriller Dance video I posted back in January? Well, here’s another one featuring over 1,500 Filipino prisoners. That’s right, every dancer is an inmate of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Cebu, Philippines. I wonder if making them do the dance was a punishment or a reward?

I saw this on the news yesterday night and I couldn’t believe it. All these bad people working together? Wth?

mahdi yusuf July 29, 2007 at 12:14 am

i seriously doubt there real inmates, if they are they cant be that dangerous if they do that fruity crap!

major July 29, 2007 at 12:53 am

Yes they are real inmates! I’m from the Philippines, the prison director asked them to do it as part of their daily exercise, it just shows that though they are inmates, they are still humans that can be disciplined.

I saw it first here on Johnchow dot com and then recognised it when it was showed on
TV prime time news too, here in France. The presentator said that it was seen 2,000,000+ times. That’s a viral social video. Web 2.0.

They are all not bad. Some are jailed even if they are innocent. If you have the money, it’s hard to put you in jail. Cebu, Phils.

the buxr widget July 28, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Not sure why.. But for some reason it’s really disturbing.

a video a day July 29, 2007 at 7:00 pm

i’m sure you haven’t read the full story

it’s actually a pretty effective scheme in terms of improving the inmates behavior

2 of the inmates have become dancers after getting out

if you know it all, you’d agree that it’s pretty cool

Mike July 28, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Wow, prison looks like so much fun!

a video a day July 29, 2007 at 7:01 pm

true

wish you were there

Mike July 28, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Looks like prison is a lot of fun!

I mean aside from the daily anal rapings and dungeons…. and did you see that girl??? she was hot!

Perhaps the Phillipines will be the new model of rehabilitation….

a video a day July 29, 2007 at 7:03 pm

well, you watched too many us prison movies

and you need a pair of glasses, it’s a man!

Chanya July 28, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Shock and awe. Hey, I just did a post about you on my site. Actually, it’s about you AND John Cow dot com.

Thomas De Maesschalck July 28, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Hmm not really something I would expect from inmates.

Were they promised some kind of reward if they performed this dance?

a video a day July 29, 2007 at 7:04 pm

no, it’s compulsory to do the dance routine, and it’s had some good effect on the prisoners

Jay Tillery July 28, 2007 at 1:13 pm

Hilarious! Maybe it’s a cooperative exercise. I think it’s awesome.

Justin Smith July 28, 2007 at 1:18 pm

Holy crap, was that ever funny. Although I’m pretty sure the “girl” was another inmate.

dcr July 28, 2007 at 11:45 pm

Question is, did he voluntary dress the role, or was that his punishment for something? :?:

Angel July 28, 2007 at 1:23 pm

I remember seeing this for the first time and just being utterly confused by it.

Harry Potter 7 July 30, 2007 at 5:30 am

Signed up for your moronic text link ads crap and got rejected. what kind of crap is that? why would you lie and say you make money with them? no wonder google banned you.

John Chow July 28, 2007 at 3:06 pm

If you got rejected, it means your site was crap, which may explain why you didn’t include your site in your comment.

Softsled July 28, 2007 at 3:24 pm

Softsled July 28, 2007 at 3:08 pm

Hilarious…in a weird disturbing way. I bet the girl :?: got lucky that night.

Michael Kwan July 28, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Or VERY unlucky, as the case may be. Prison rules prevail.

Softsled July 28, 2007 at 3:25 pm

Unlucky is definitely a better word.

Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style August 1, 2007 at 9:05 am

You can never be too sure. With that said, I wonder if (s)he volunteered to play that part, or if it was just “You’re the chick, bitch!”.

Maria Palma July 28, 2007 at 3:29 pm

Colin Dean July 28, 2007 at 3:52 pm

No one since Vincent Price has been able to do the horror voice better than he.

Michael Fultz July 28, 2007 at 4:02 pm

This is one cool video! This would be a good thing to bring to the U.S. !

Tyler July 28, 2007 at 4:17 pm

I think if we show this to young kids in the U.S., crime might actually go down.

Terra Andersen July 28, 2007 at 5:28 pm

This video is all over the news here – Very funny!

Jeff Kee July 28, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Hey John man, you can’t directly link to the video any more.

Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style August 1, 2007 at 9:03 am

I will never understand why uses do this. Is YouTube fame more important than letting people see the video?

DevDad

Travis Roberts July 29, 2007 at 6:35 pm

Yeah, it says you have to go to youtube to view…
Anyway…that video has got to be staged…pretty funny…thanks for sharing John

The video doesn’t work now, but I saw it elsewhere. Freaky!

Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style August 1, 2007 at 9:02 am

I had seen this before reaching this entry, but I just thought that I would let you know that this video was on Best Week Ever this week also! I feel bad for the guy who had to play the woman in the video. I can imagine it got some of the prisoners feeling frisky.

DevDad

Geedos August 7, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Shouldn’t they have danced to “Bad”??

Click Input August 16, 2007 at 10:12 pm

That is one of the coolest things I have seen, wonder how they got all the prisoners to do it… better meals?
