The HSBC Celebration of Light (originally known as the Symphony of Fire) is a yearly summer fireworks event. This international pyro-musical fireworks competition has attracted the world’s leading fireworks designers and is seen as a highly prestigious event. The fireworks festival creates an exciting arena where spectators can enjoy each country’s representatives unveil their latest techniques and use the most innovative fireworks materials as they compete to be crowned the winner.

Most people coming to the fireworks on English Bay make it an all day event because of the huge amount of people showing up. You need to get there really early in order to get a good spot to view the show. Fortunately for us, we have a friend who lived in a condo that directly over look the fireworks. The Celebration of Light started with a display by Canada. The USA is up on Saturday and China will take the stage next Wednesday. The Grand Finale, with all countries performing, will be held on Saturday August 2nd.

HSBC I believe is a China bank. With its full name "Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation." However, its headquarter is based in London.

HSBC is not a American bank? Right?

Never heard of this celebration, but the fireworks were cool.

Been so busy that I had forgot about the fireworks. I going to try shooting some videos of it next Wednesday.

That's pretty interesting and entertaining

I think it's a good idea when various places and their differences can be represented!

the fireworks were great. usually Canada gets beat by the other contestants of that event, but I think this year they have a standing chance

Beats the fireworks here in Oregon. We aren't allowed to have anything over 6 ft. high, so needless to say 4th of July is pretty slow around here.

That would suck to have those restrictions. But then again I don't think we can buy private fireworks here either. The HSBC thing is guarded like a state visit, just in case someone gets to close...

It is in Vancouver . nice video

i guess i need to vancouver sometime. it wasn't ever on my list but it just got added another 234 places to go and then i'll be going to vancouver

My advise: skip the other 234 places and come to vancouver first. I have travelled lots in the past and have yet to find many places that rival Vancouver as a travel destination.

Missed it last night but I'm planning on going Saturday. It's always a great show.

I was there last night. Helps that I partially live only 1 block from English Bay so getting home took 5 minutes? Watched the crowd from the balcony go down Denman and also Guilford.

Saturday will be busier.

If people are wondering where this event is. It is in Vancouver.

Oh, thanks for the great information, I thought John flew to US. Just kidding!

This is one hell of a random-topic post... But w/e, fireworks are cool.

Thats kind of what I was thinking but oh well, nice video!

When you have John's posting frequency there are bound to be a few random posts in between...
