25 Best Traffic Building Tips Part #23-1: Linking To Existing Business Profiles

Link building is important to build authority to your website, however, it’s important that it’s done the right way to build authority and add value. There will come a point that you have a handful of awesome link building profiles and you can leverage them to add more juice to every single one of them. For example, in one of my previous parts, I discussed how business directories can be used to build high do-follow links to your websites. These are powerful because some of them have been around for years and earned their reputation within Google. Here are some of the most popular ones:

  • Google Places
  • Yelp.com
  • 411.ca
  • Yellowpages.com

In addition to these, you have several other well known business directories that will not only add value, but are also do-follow at the same time. However, once you’ve listed your business profile in these, you can leverage link building to keep boosting the page authority of the profile. This, in the long-run, will add more value and keep boosting your target websites rankings throughout the SERP’s. Here’s the basic concept:

Find High Authority Business Directories>Check To Make Sure Do-Follow>Add Profiles>Build Additional Links to Profile

Let’s look at this concept further and how you can leverage this opportunity to boost your rankings in the SERP’s.

Finding the Right Directories

To make this strategy as effective, it’s important you choose the right directories. For example, I suggest always targeting the “do-follow” business directories because you’re guaranteed the link juice will be passed through to your money website. From my research, there are many “do-follow” high authority business directories floating around the web that you can make use of. Start by doing a quick search online for “business directories” and visiting each one, looking for do-follow profiles. You can install this simple browser extension that will highlight links that are “no-follow”, streamlining your research process. Here is the name of the browser extension that should be available for Firefox, Chrome, and Explorer: SEOQuake.

Once you’ve done your research, it’s time to create a list and do some extra research, looking for the domain and page authority of the site. These two numbers will give you a better understanding of the reputation and value it provides. For example, the higher the numbers, the more valuable and larger the website so always look for numbers above 20+. Here’s a quick example using N49.ca…

You’ll notice both numbers are above 20+ and from my research, the link is “do-follow”.

Adding Business Profiles

To be approved by these business directories, it’s important to fill out your entire business profile. Many of the quality business directories will have an approval process with moderators looking for complete profiles before publishing your business. Here are the main things to focus on when submitting these profiles:

  • Business name
  • Address
  • Website URL
  • Business phone number
  • Business description
  • Photo

I’ve noticed the more correct information you can provide, the higher the chances of being approved by these directories.

These business profiles alone should add value to your “target” site because they are reputable do-follow links, however, in the next part, we’ll learn how to take this to a higher level. Personally, I consider these two different link building techniques and why I decided to mention them as two completely different link building strategies. Business directories as a link building strategy was first mentioned in Part 10 of this series so if you haven’t read this part, please visit before continuing this one. In this strategy, we are essentially taking everything we learned in Part 10 and building links to business profiles or “those links” to increase the value.

In Part 2, we’ll learn how to find high value tier 2 links and the frequency you should use when building links to Tier 1 links.
