$3,700 Raised for The Union Gospel Mission

written by John Chow on October 6, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

ugm31.jpg

I want to thank everyone who made a donation to help the Union Gospel Mission feed the hungry for this Thanksgiving. Because of you, over 1,400 people on the streets of Vancouver will be able to enjoy a hot meal.

I asked for your help and you’ve answered. I’ve received donation from 44 readers who gave $1,850.39 over the past three days. As promised, I will be matching this with my own $1,850.39 donation to bring the total donation to $3,700.78. This is a nearly a four fold increase over the matching Easter drive I did for the UGM back in March.

A special thank you goes out to WizCoder, Stephen Fung and a person who wish to remain anonymous for their generous donations. Wiz Coder donated everything he made as a full-time blogger since May. Thanks to all the following readers who made a donation.

Once again, a big thanks to everyone who made a donation to feed the hungry this Thanksgiving. I can’t express how proud I am of the John Chow dot Com community. If you haven’t made a donation but wish to do so, you may do it online at Union Gospel Mission website.

I’m confused. Why all the $25.90 donations?!

Great work everybody! :)

Mubin October 6, 2007 at 11:28 am

25.90, is the cost to feed 10 people. 2.59 X 10.

Way to be a socially responsible blogger John, Karma may be a biatch, but Im sure you’ll be rewarded for this kind act.

Israel October 6, 2007 at 1:33 pm

karma is the bad type, darma is the good.

Making The Money October 7, 2007 at 2:54 am

Wahlau.NET October 11, 2007 at 12:08 am

Santosh P October 6, 2007 at 11:49 am

Even I am confused

Casey October 6, 2007 at 1:24 pm

If you go to the charity’s online donation page, you can choose a set amount of $25.90, $47, $90, or make up your own amount.

Googlelady October 6, 2007 at 8:12 pm

25.9 is the minimum to donate.

Casey October 6, 2007 at 11:39 am

Damn, that’s a lot of money! lol @ my last name being “Blah”. I guess I should put my real last name in my yahoo profile from now on. :P

Chris Jacobson October 6, 2007 at 11:58 am

I should have donated more. lol

SEO Optimization October 6, 2007 at 12:06 pm

We should of all, but we donated what we thought was right and how much we could afford.

I just hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving day.

Chris Jacobson October 6, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I donated another $25.90 for good measure.

Stephen October 6, 2007 at 12:59 pm

I donated more because I ate a lot of food

Gdog October 6, 2007 at 1:02 pm

I hope the homeless don’t eat as much as you, because that $2.90 will only go so far! Glad everybody made donations, what a feat! :)

Karol Krizka October 6, 2007 at 1:00 pm

I think even more people would have donated if you said you’re gonna post a list of them all, along with a link to their blog! :P

Thanks, John Chow!

Mubin October 6, 2007 at 1:08 pm

I think he did say that.

Tyson Williams October 6, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Glad to see that someone will benefit from it. Congrats on the great idea and supporting others in need. Happy Thanksgiving (for those of us in Canada).

Neil Duckett October 6, 2007 at 7:24 pm

Great work to raise that much.

Googlelady October 6, 2007 at 8:10 pm

Hey John, in the title is missing the “3″.

Sean.ray October 6, 2007 at 8:34 pm

hi John,
Just curious, why you choose not to promote Yahoo? It’s easy to understand why not Google, but from my viewpoints, Yahoo should be a good replacement for it, and there are more you can promote with it.

smallfishbigmoney.com October 6, 2007 at 8:49 pm

Great to see John’s helping out!
Keep it up!

Etienne Teo October 6, 2007 at 9:15 pm

Googlelady October 7, 2007 at 11:02 am

MyBlogContest October 6, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Thanks for the link and your matching up donation.

Home Recording October 7, 2007 at 12:12 am

Amen to that. Wait a while more. Some more good news is on its way to you. How long does your offer to match donations stand?

John Chow October 7, 2007 at 10:06 am

It was over on Friday.

loredan October 7, 2007 at 12:37 am

Well done, John & Co!
It’s always nice to see people donating. I was expecting to see some Cows on your list too but they are probably to busy making money
I’ve blogged about your this, well done once again!

Making The Money October 7, 2007 at 2:56 am

Was a pleasure, I’ll try and donate on a regular basis, well I’ve got it as an outlook task so no excuses.

lyricsreg October 7, 2007 at 4:15 am

The page title says ,700 instead of 3,700

Mubin October 7, 2007 at 5:48 am

Well I’ll be damned your right it does. It shows it like this ,700. Whats up with that?

John Chow October 7, 2007 at 10:05 am

It’s a glitch in the All-In-One SEO plugin.

Googlelady October 7, 2007 at 11:04 am

There is a new update for the plugin but why not adding a little code to the title tag so you will not need the All in SEO plugin?

Poom October 7, 2007 at 7:26 am

Congrat, John. You are such a good man!

I wish you to be more happy and making more money !

BlogsTheme.com October 7, 2007 at 8:41 am

It’s really nice that you do such things. All this type of things will improve your life! We really like you John!

simon October 7, 2007 at 8:55 am

Etienne Teo October 7, 2007 at 7:36 pm

while john was busy raising funds, michael kwan also was holding a small contest for a hat and waterbottle which i guess no one was interested except for me…hahaha!

Jonathan Volk October 7, 2007 at 11:50 pm

That’s a great thing you’re doing. :)

max October 8, 2007 at 12:06 am

I like the charity posts, John. THIS is actually one of my dreams except I’d make a homeless foundation in San Francisco instead of Vancouver.

ralphieb October 8, 2007 at 10:20 pm

I donated sent an email to John and he did not add my website, oh well.
