A Big Night Out In Vancouver

Big Night is a yearly event put on by Vancouver Magazine that celebrates the top winning wines from their 4th annual Wine Awards paired with the best restaurants from their 18th annual Restaurant Awards. This is the third year of the event and it brings out the who’s who of Vancouver to the very prestigious Vancouver Club for a night of wining, dining and rubbing elbows with the city’s movers and shakers.
Big Night answers the aged old question of what happens when new age Dot Com meets old age Vancouver money. The answer is: not a hell of lot. This maybe because we decided to dress like old money instead of the Dot Com stereotype. The Vancouver Club is a very old club (founded in 1889) with old traditions and a very strict dress code. While we dressed like old money, we acted like it was Dot Com Pho. We did get some strange looks when we grab some giant champagne glasses to make a toast.
Joining Sarah and me for Big Night were Greg Morgan and his girlfriend Linda, Stephen Fung and his girlfriend Kelly, and Ed Lau, who is single and was hoping to find a Vancouver Club sugar momma. He had a few bites but they were all too old.

The first photo looks like something you’d see from the “red carpet”. My fav. parts of the video: Campbells chunky beef soup and those HUGE glasses of wine - no wonder you were drunk!
Reply to this commentI tried every wine there (I’m sure John did too…probably). Some I went back for a second…or third…glass so I’d say before that massive one, we’d probably had about 15-16…maybe more…glasses.
…but we also had like 10 glasses of water by the end of the night too.
Reply to this commentEvery wine? How did you handle the headache? LoL
Reply to this commentThe ice win saw a lot of action and repeat business that night
Reply to this comment…oh and four or five shots of Grey Goose before we started.
Reply to this commentMmmmm grey goose.
Reply to this commentYeah it does. John’s on the A-list!
Reply to this commentActually…no…
As John strolled by the “Media Registration Desk” he realized that not only did he have to pay for this event, but he was not even invited as press, and basically a nobody at this event.
…also…Sarah made him wear a suit
Reply to this commentAnd Stephen wouldn’t have known about the event at all if I hadn’t told him. And I look way better in a suit than he does.
Reply to this commentJust before the event, you asked me if there was a dress code, and if you could wear a leather jacket, blue shirt, and khaki pants, looking like a line of ants
The prosecution rests
Reply to this commentCheck out the wine glasses, dude. And haha, you can just spot John from a mile away coz his head is like right above everyone else’s.
Was this a free invite party? Coz all the food looks very inviting.
Reply to this commentTotally free…in exchange for $120 bucks.

You must have skipped out on grammar class.
(I doubt it was a typo, as I’ve noticed grammatical errors in most of your comments and/or posts)
It “make” (makes) you sound like a dumbass. Start correcting it.
Reply to this commentYou be douche bag.
Reply to this commentJack,
Stop pretending to be John Chow. John Chow would never leave a negative comment like this. He is friendly.

Reply to this commentThat translates to “That gray truck the one!”
I don’t get it.
Reply to this commentThat`s a pretty small glass of champagne
Reply to this commentGlamorous life you have John..
Shooting Vodka and oysters what could be better! Thanks for sharing your video.
Reply to this commentAre you a big wine fan? What is a good fruity tasting, more sweet wine? I have to admit I’m not very educated in wine.
Reply to this commentFruity Tasting and sweet aren’t usually good signs for a regular wine, but if that is what you are looking for, try a dessert wine. They are sweeter and go great with a dessert, like Creme Brulee.
Reply to this commentSomething like a nice glass of Warre’s 10 -year Tawny Port
wow! the food looks delicious
Reply to this commentlooks yummy even a bum would love it!
Reply to this commentLooks liek a fun event. I should move there.

Reply to this commentThe oyster bar looks cool… was it made of ice?
Reply to this commentYep, pure ice
Reply to this commentLooks like great fun! I like how they call it “big night”. I remember that being a theme of a high school prom I attended.
Reply to this commentLove those sort of events where you get a chance to try samplings from a bunch of different restaurants, with wine pairings. For those of us not going to the best restaurants for free
It is a good way to get a feel for what they have to offer.
Reply to this commentOh yeah totally crazy! Anyone could attend, !$120…
Not exactly special or anything.. I dont get it.
Reply to this commentLooking quite snazzy John

Reply to this commentJOHN CHOW!!!! This video makes me miss you & parties & vegas & fine dining & drinking! It’s nice to see you dressed up! You looked really nice.
The huge glasses at the end were awesome! You made me laugh. They reminded me of the huge Absolut bottles we took pictures with. Looks like you had an awesome time. Wish I could have been there with you all!
Reply to this commentYou guys need to get the hell out of Pittsburgh!
Reply to this commentIt looks like you had a blast! Did you make any new connections?
Reply to this commentYou mentioned that you were the odd guy there- old money vs. dot com guys. How did you get the invite? Sounds like a great party.
Reply to this commentHe didn’t get invited at all. He paid like all the regular people. What made him most upset was when he walked by the “Media Registration” desk…and he wasn’t in it
Reply to this commentBig party for you john.
