A Visit To The Vancouver Aquarium

written by John Chow on November 5th, 2008

One of the nicest thing about living the Dot Com Lifestyle is you can have a family fun day whenever you want. As a rule, I never do family fun days on the weekends because that’s the time everyone else does family fun day. So, after lunch at Phnom Penh (which was posted on Twitter), we decided to check out the Vancouver Aquarium at Stanley park.

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre is a self-supporting, non-profit association dedicated to effecting the conservation of aquatic life through display and interpretation, education, research, and direct action. The place has changed a lot since the last time I’ve been there. Sally loved it and that was the main reason for going. Sally liked it so much that we decided to buy an annual membership.

Given that we went on a Wednesday afternoon, the aquarium wasn’t all that busy - mostly out of town tourists and one family living the Dot Com Lifestyle. Gotta love it.

It isn’t near the size of SeaWorld. And not nearly as cool as SeaWorld, but it is nice to go to on a meh day if you’re willing to pay $20 per person.

Reminds me SeaWorld is $70 per person! or was for me when i went in February.

Those squirrels are crazy. They attack people for peanuts now. When I was younger, they were much more tentative when I offered them a peanut. Now they chase you.

We have albino squirrels and regular squirrels on the College Campus in my little town that will literally attack you.

Bully squirrels!

You won’t like the Vancouver one very much… or I didn’t.

It’s tiny compared to SeaWorld in California or any other aquarium i’ve been to and there isn’t as much animals.

That was really cute with the ribbit ribbit! and a terrible massacre with the crickets. It’s great to see that you spend quality time with family. Fun time at the aquarium! I may make a visit to my local one soon.

This is not PC. You have to say pigmentally-challenged squirrels. :)

Enjoy it as long as it lasts. There will be a time when the kids go to school and it becomes difficult to get them out for a day or two.

The obvious answer is home schooling and/or private tutor. Kids today spend way more time in school than they need to. Most kids can get by with 2 hours of RRR and the rest of the time experiencing the world around them. Now if only I could convince my wife that that’s a great idea…!

Even though it is small (and I mention that above) it isn’t a horrible place to go. They do have 3 generation of Belugas (no that Tiqa was born) which is pretty neat and so is the story behind it.

I have some photos from when I went on last Saturday at my flickr set: http://flickr.com/photos/tyleringram/sets/72157608626791156/

My youngest got splashed by the belugas on his birthday a couple of years back. He still regards it as one of the most memorable days of his life.

Most of us are here at work while you are spending time with your family at the zoo. Yet we are here at your site to learn how to make money online, from a guy that essentially gets to hang out and have fun with his family all day, haha.
