SEO Plugin for Wordpress

I’ve been looking for a Wordpress plugin like this for a while now. All in One SEO Pack allows you to control the title, description and keywords META tags for every post you write. By default, Wordpress uses your blog tagline (in my case, The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul) for the description and keyword tags. This is far from ideal because it doesn’t really describe what the post is about. By allowing you to control the title, keyword and description META tags, All in One SEO Pack make your posts a lot more search engine friendly.

Since the home page is the most important page, All in One SEO Pack allows you to have a home page title, description and keywords that are independent of any other option. In addition, you can create separate titles, description and keywords for each post. For blogs that have been around for a while and have a ton of posts already, All in One SEO Pack will use the first 25 words (user adjustable) of the post as the meta description and the categories the posts are in as the META keywords.

All in One SEO Pack Options Menu

all-in-one-seo-1.jpg

Installation of All in one SEO is extremely simple - just upload and activate. The plugin has the above options to set the home page and post SEO parameters. The plugin adds a title and keyword field to the Wordpress editor so all new posts can have custom title and keywords META tags. The META description is created by writing in the Optional Excerpt field. Additional SEO options includes the ability to exclude duplicate contents, like the archives and categories, from being indexed.

Depending on the Wordpress theme you are using, you may need to edit your header.php file to remove the META keyword and description calls. Otherwise, you may end up with two sets of META keyword and description per page.

The Plugin in Action

You can see the plugin in action in this post. The title tag of this post has been changed to “Optimize your Wordpress blog for Google with All in One SEO Pack” If you look at the page source you’ll also see I have custom keywords and a custom META description that reads:

All in One SEO Pack is a great Wordpress plugin to help you rank higher with search engines, like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Very easy to install and use.

That’s definitely more descriptive than The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul. :)

Wordpress has the best plugins, doesn’t it. this is a rhetorical question, by the way.

Would it not be a lot of work to adapt it to the old sites. I have google webmaster now looking for certain pages since I made adjustments. Will it change. It thinks that the pages are gone and do not exist…

I wonder if this is really hurting my site.

It works great with old blog. Before, all my old posts had the same META description. Now the META description is the first 25 words of each old posts.

Very interesting, I’ve just installed it. On the other hand, I would like to understand why I have some posts that are #1 on Google for some combinations of keywords without using any SEO optimization. For example, if you search for “n95 vs N80i” in Google.com, my comparison post in #1, as well as if you search for download maps n95.
    Any idea ?

I also have the same thing. If you search “Is Adbux a scam?” into Google. I think it may just be the fact that we have the permalinks set up to | , so the post name is first. I think that is an SEO method - a very basic one.

I also used to use All in One SEO Pack. On a new blog I installed wpSEO, and I like it even more, as you have more options for configuration. Actually you can configure behaviour for title, keywords and description for home, post, page, category, search, archive and tags separately. It is also using words in xhtml tags as keywords and sorting them according to relevancy.
Maybe you should give it a try. Unfortunatelt I think there is just a german description but the plugin is available als in english.

Could it be because of this plugin?

No, it’s just Google dancing around. Do a search for “Text Link Ads” and you’ll see the text link ads is gone from the front page as well.

Is this still related to the spiders from the other day, or was that an isolated case?

I use Head Space from Urban Giraffe and I love it, love it, love it. It has the options listed above and more. Over 49% of all my traffic comes from search engines and I owe it all to this plugin.

UG is a great site for plugins and all WP users should check it out.

[...] I’ve added the All in One SEO Pack plugin to my blog in hopes that it will help with SEO. This plugin allows you to rewrite the title tag for your posts, automagically add a meta description, change the title/description/keywords for your blog home page and use noindex for archives and categories (helps with duplicate content issues). This plugin superseded the Duplicate Content Cure plugin that I was using so I shut that off. Thanks to John Chow for posting this plugin on his blog! [...]
