Am I The Most Controversial Blog of 2007?

It looks like Performancing hasn’t left me out of their 2007 Reader’s Choice Awards. I’ve been nominated for The Most Controversial Blog Award. I’m not sure whether to take that as a compliment or an insult.

Controversy breeds contempt…and popularity. We’ve chosen six blogs that have become known for controversy as finalists for this award. The blog with the most number of votes by January 10, 2007 wins the 2007 Reader’s Choice award. A Judges’ Choice award will also be awarded at the same time.

I didn’t even know I was nominated until just now. Other than saying I’m the most controversial blog of 2007, do I get anything else if I win? Anyway, please head over to Performancing and vote for me as the most controversial blog.

  1. Well congratulations for winning something you didn’t expect to be nominated for!:)

    1. Mike Huang says:

I don’t think they chose the winner yet…

      1. McBilly says:

I think it’s a pretty clear win for you John! Anyway, you got my vote. You are indeed the root of all evil! Haha. 😈

    2. Technically a nomination….although he has a high chance of winning 😉

    3. Will says:

you should post a gigantic pic of an evil guy if you win. You are quite evil after all 😈

  2. David Chew says:

    Congratulation on you John. 😀

  3. Haroon says:

    Congrats John
You Got something unexpected again 😉

    1. Which, is what usually happens to John 😛

Guess they, just want his free promotion 😈

  4. Remember John, you said it yourself, there is no such thing as bad press!

    Well done, 😉

    1. MoneyNing says:

There is but I do not believe it applies to Johnchow 🙂

      1. Nope I dont think it does, lucky person. 😈

      2. Why do you say there is? Press is press. It’s all about name recognition and attention.

        1. Alan Johnson says:

I agree: there will always be people who share your views and others who do not. Being in the spotlight is the name of the game since running a resource everyone likes is next to impossible.

  5. Web Cosmo says:

Controversy is good for business! All comes to the point if you earn enough.

  6. Hi John
It’s no surprise that you are way in the lead. First of all the other nominees have far less interesting topics to write about, and also the very fact that you can easily catch between 70 and 250 comments makes it one of the world’s most commented blogs.

To stir comments you have to be controversial. It ain’t only a negative word, so take courage. You are leading so it would be a big surprise if anyone could overtake you.

    Carpe diem. 🙂

    1. D. says:

I agree with You, Henrik Blunck…
Sometimes, as in this case, it’s not a negative word.

Debate, discussion or controversy (you choose how to call it) is, probably, the best (as well as the most democratic) starting line if you want to develop a given argument.

Moreover, a subject like ‘making money’ must generate comments, since it’s plausible it might have a lot of implications about ethics (and so on).

      So, finger crossed.. John 😉

  7. How can most controversial be an insult to “The Root of all Evil”?
    It is a Compliment.

    1. Alan Johnson says:

I’d definitely agree that controversy is a part of his business model as well as a part of the brand he’s created around himself since, let’s face it, even when people criticize, they are still talking about you 🙂

      Alan Johnson

  8. Shinaonline says:

    Well John,
Congratulation most controversial blog award !
    Cheers!

  9. Rhys says:

I’m going to be controversial and not vote 😛

  10. But john is it also your blog or a duplicate one

  11. You, controversial? Nah!
    Kenneth

  12. WannaSmile says:

Thanks for having this blog, it’s helped me grow mine in just a few months. I’m in the process of re-organizing and re-structuring and hope to have ad’s on there soon. I’ve already been approved for blogads and kontera…thanks to your suggestions! Check me out at http://www.wannasmile.com

  13. Blogosis says:

Someone please help me conclude how a make-money blog can be controversial. Hardly. The “controversy” is you actually did it? Like you weren’t supposed to succeed? I think they need new guidlines

    Justin Dupre

    1. Alan Johnson says:

Well, controversy can also be created around the methods you use in order to make money or your overall approach to making money online.

      Alan Johnson

  14. Yes, I believe JohnChow.com is the most controversial blog! 😀

    1. Depends who he is up against 😈

  15. D. says:

I agree with you, Henrik Blunck…
The word ‘controversial’, as in this case, is not negative at all.

Debates, discussions or controversies (you choose how you want to call them) are, probably, the best (as well as the most democratic) starting lines, if you want to develop a given argument.

Moreover, a subject like ‘making money’ must generate comments, since it’s plausible it might have a lot of implications about ethics (and so on).

    So, fingers crossed.. John! 😉

  16. John Chow isn’t controversial. lol

    1. stavanger says:

no, compared to perez hilton? u haven’t been served yet have you john?

    2. MoneyNing says:

I agree. He’s just a genius at internet marketing and branding 🙂

    3. Alan Johnson says:

There are definitely others far more controversial than John out there but I personally think that he didn’t mind being nominated for this category.

      Alan Johnson

  17. Matej says:

I like to read your blog John but you surely are not most controversial blogger neither you have controversial blog hehe.

  18. Hey John,

Hehe, great stuff man. Now you asked what you’ll get if you win the award?! What will we get who voted for you 😆 ?

    Hrvoje

  19. First, I don’t anything controversial on making big amounts of money online.
Second, I don’t see anything controversial on getting banned from digg, technorati and google all together.

  20. Debby says:

    John,
    You have our vote!
    Thanks,
    Debby

  21. I think you deserve that title since you a genuine persone unlike all the other bloggers out there not everyone just some people. You usually use your approach on something instead of always going by the books I visit your blog like 4 times a day because I really want to get a response from you and I hope you might visit my blog and give me some good feedback

  22. BonoRiau says:

    U r different that’s why they give U different award…anywhere U already create the different wave …congrats

  23. Mister Poo says:

I hope you win for 2007. Europe wishes well to John Chow.

Surely the title of Controversy will belong with me?

    Salut,

    Mr Poo

  24. sir jorge says:

    I would say no.
Just the most hated, for making so much dang money…

    1. MoneyNing says:

I agree 🙂 I think everyone is just jealous that you are making so much money by this blog 🙂

  25. seo audit says:

I don’t think you are so controversial 🙂

  26. Youfoundjake says:

After I voted, I saw that you got 95% of the votes so far, nice. I think thats what may make you the most controversial, is that your not, but you won like you are!!! It has to be rigged 😛

  27. I haven’t looked at that list yet but it doesn’t surprise me. Think about how many detractors you have (myself included at times). When you consider your Google penalty, your Technorati ban, and your pimping of Agloco, I think the nomination is merited. 😀

  28. ATV Style says:

John, you haven’t had to get controversial since the google whores post, talk about a surprise nomination. 🙂

I’m just as surprised that Shoemoney wasn’t on the list, I thought his detailing how to abuse facebook to its limits would have him on the list too.

  29. ATV Style says:

Hah! You’re kicking Perez Hiltons arse for now. Go John!

    1. Neil Duckett says:

I’d suggest Pereze Hilton doesn’t know of the contest and probably won’t blog about it either. I don’t think the term controversial is a good one to describe this blog.

  30. Chad says:

Well, you’re not all that controversial in my mind…but I’ll vote for you anyways.

  31. MoneyNing says:

You probably got nominated because they don’t really read your site. In any case, this will only give you more explosure so why not 🙂

    1. ATV Style says:

Explosure! I love the new word David – brand that sucker for bloggers everywhere.

Explosure : a term used when bloggers gain explosive readership through recent exposure.

    1. Dude you really should stop with all the track backs… 😕

  32. Binh Nguyen says:

You are so evil 😈 , take something that you don’t want just to gain some traffic.

  33. max says:

I think people who hate you probably nominated you for this. But who cares? There always will be haters who get jealous of your talent.

  34. I wouldn’t say you’re all that controversial, but I voted for you anyway and it looks like you are way in the lead. Is there a prize giveaway if you win this contest?

  35. I don’t know if you are controversial, but you are leading Shoe in rss subscribers by more than 1,000 now, way to go!

  36. Adam says:

Voted for you and looking at the results, it looks like you are winning by a mile.

  37. Spiros says:

    Congratulations john! 😎

  38. enovator says:

I voted for you John. Hope You will be the winner. I personally don’t see any controversy in you blog though 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

  39. Andrew says:

Are you sure it’s not for John Cow? 😉

    Anyways, good luck w/ this…

  40. anton says:

Maybe the controversial element stems from the fact (or alleged) of the underhand ways you have manipulated traffic in the past.

  41. I can not believe they put you in the company of some of those blogs ( and I use that term loosely) of such online folks as Perez Hilton, and 1938media. But if you really want to win, I can go vote for you,

  42. Arjuna says:

    Voted ….
    Hope you win 😉

  43. If you was the most controversial blog of 2007, then you’d have more haters then lovers 😈

  44. Will says:

I’d take it as a compliment. Your blog has brought up quite a few innovations. It’s no wonder people are talking about your blog the most.

  45. AdamHolland says:

Controversial? Don’t know about that there buddy…

Innovative, helpful, inspirational maybe… but, c’mon…

  46. Jacky says:

No, but you talk about yourself more than anyone else. Small dick?

  47. Ethan Christ says:

No John, you’re not the most controversial blogger. Check out my post on this at Slam Blogger
I sent you an email about this, but I haven’t had any luck getting any response in the past via email. (I know, you stay busy) Hope you enjoy.
