And I Thought I Was Evil

written by John Chow on March 18, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

It takes a pretty evil mind to think up something like this. The show producers set up a “spa” at the top of a ski resort. However, as you’ll see in a moment, this is no ordinary spa! I got to hand it to some of these Japanese TV shows. They’re pretty evil. I wonder if I can set up this type of spa on Grouse Mountain. Enjoy the video.

Make it whistler instead of Grouse

John Chow March 18, 2007 at 10:39 pm

I’m sure it will go over really well there!

Dax Desai March 18, 2007 at 10:52 pm

I wish I understood what they’re saying. That was hillarious!

Aris March 19, 2007 at 6:59 am

They just simply telling people the steps those guys went thru, such as putting in the coin, count down started, nothing fancy.

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Yeah I didn’t figure they were contributing much in terms of commentary. The video alone pretty much spoke for itself.

Michael Kwan March 20, 2007 at 12:15 am

With clips like these, I don’t think it’s necessary to understand the language at all.

hmtksteve March 19, 2007 at 5:01 am

Good old Japanese bethroom humor.

lyndonmaxewell March 19, 2007 at 5:04 am

Yea, the Japanese are real good at inventing and playing pranks on others. :D I wonder how long that took them to design.

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:06 pm

They are the best. There seems to be no fear of hurting people or getting sued. That always makes for the best pranks. Nothing better than physical humour, and it doesn’t get mush more physical than hurtling down a massive ski hill naked on a rocket propelled chair.

Michael Kwan March 20, 2007 at 12:23 am

If they tried the same stunt in the States, I’d expect some sort of lawsuit. It seems that it’s only Japanese game shows that can get away with things like this.

Bryan Baker March 19, 2007 at 8:56 am

Holy shit that was funny. The chair that shoots them down the mountain is the best.

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 3:11 pm

I loved the rockets!

Bob Buskirk March 18, 2007 at 10:42 pm

Thats great!!

Shawn Knight March 18, 2007 at 10:44 pm

Wow.. too bad you could never get away with anything like that in America, people would have lawsuits left and right!

Jane May March 18, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Unless they sign their lives away before going into the spa. (release)

Leftblank March 19, 2007 at 1:42 am

Welcome to the United States of Suehappy America ;)

hmtksteve March 19, 2007 at 5:02 am

Does anyone else remember the old show Candid Camera?

lyndonmaxewell March 19, 2007 at 5:07 am

Candid Camera did nothing to expose people’s modesty, did they? Gosh, I wouldn’t have want to be in their shoes.

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:06 pm

I remember it, but that show was nothing compared to this!

Michael Kwan March 20, 2007 at 12:25 am

I remember that show. The one that stuck out in my mind was that they’d get an actor to show up and drink a cup of apple juice, except it was placed at a medical lab where the victim would think it was a urine sample.

WildBluff_Matt March 19, 2007 at 5:47 am

You are absolutely right. It’d be lawsuit-o-rama.

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 3:13 pm

It really is too bad, the show would be a hit!

AskReaMaor March 18, 2007 at 10:45 pm

Those Japs are CRAZY !
i used to have Funny movie site that was LOADED with those kind of movies.. the things they’ll do..

Jane May March 18, 2007 at 10:51 pm

The last one was the best. Cup in face, towel flying everywhere and doing a bunny hop on a leather chair! NICE

Zach March 19, 2007 at 3:58 pm

I like the one where the guys towel gets stuck, and he’s trying to get it back

Jane May March 20, 2007 at 12:55 am

hahaha…yeah, that was a good one too!

John Chow March 18, 2007 at 10:56 pm

To think they had to paid money into the machine for that!

Jane May March 18, 2007 at 11:13 pm

HAHAHA…Where do you find these clips? Do you have to be a certified evil blogger to subscribe?

hmtksteve March 19, 2007 at 5:02 am

These clips are everywhere, if you know where to look!

Jane May March 19, 2007 at 12:31 pm

I guess my “evil” detective skills are lacking. That can be an area of improvement for me

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 12:56 pm

He found it on my site! See the source link at the bottom?

Culture Shiok! March 20, 2007 at 4:13 pm

I first saw it here. I didn’t notice the source at first. Then when I went to Samanathon, it was there!

Aris March 19, 2007 at 7:09 am

Ask uncle Google, Jane. I put in “Japanese Prank Show” at Youtube and the first one on the list was this one.

YouTube – Plueballs.com Pick Of The WeekJapanese prank gameshow funny gaki no 05:33. From: alansblog Views: 104407 … Japanese Prank Show 04:28. From: billymagnum Views: 231461 …

But if you don’t have an evil mind, you wouldn’t think about this at the first place unless you accidentally stumble upon it when you go to Youtube. I thought John’s evil mind was the reason his found that video before all his readers here.

Aris March 19, 2007 at 7:15 am

I mean I put “Japanese Prank Show” in Google.

Jane May March 20, 2007 at 12:56 am

hmmm, don’t know if I want to talk to anyone by the name Uncle Google

lyndonmaxewell March 19, 2007 at 5:12 am

I wonder if they got their ‘Money back gauranteed’. I wonder how they closed the situation afterwards. I don’t think any of them would be letting it go so easily!

Aris March 19, 2007 at 7:13 am

I believe they got more than they put in. They probably got the free airplane tickets, and accommodations to attend the TV show etc. In that way, the producer wouldn’t be sued. Unless something change after the last 25 years, that was what I know about those type of prank shows in Japan.

Jane May March 19, 2007 at 12:32 pm

What do you mean? Having your jewels exposed in a populated ski slope isn’t enjoyable???

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Exactly. Besides, if you can’t laugh at yourself in those situations, there’s just something wrong with you :P

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 3:16 pm

If you think this video was funny, wait until you see what I have coming up this weekend!

Maybe John will link to me again!

Michael Kwan March 20, 2007 at 12:28 am

I smell link bait!

Jane May March 20, 2007 at 1:07 am

Now that you put it out there, you set a pretty high standard for yourself. We better see something good saman!!!

Culture Shiok! March 20, 2007 at 8:22 am

Lyndonmaxwell – I’m not sure if the people in “our” part of the region can react like how the Japs in the clip did.

Culture Shiok! March 20, 2007 at 7:49 am

So what will you do if you get into a similar prank?

macgoo March 18, 2007 at 11:05 pm

Ha ha. I love evil Japanese TV shows!

George C. March 18, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Hi there! looks funny!

Culture Shiok! March 21, 2007 at 12:45 pm

Really funny! Made me laugh for a while! Saman said we can expect another one!

Zaib Kaleem March 18, 2007 at 11:19 pm

This is reality TV at its best…

Culture Shiok! March 20, 2007 at 8:13 am

Is this supposed to be a series? Wonder what the other vids are like?

Albert March 18, 2007 at 11:37 pm

I think John Chow is more evil than that TV show :???:

Jane May March 19, 2007 at 12:02 am

Yeah, that’s a close one, but I still think there’s an evil community that get special perks

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Yeah it does, great info and tons of linkbacks!

Andika Kusuma March 19, 2007 at 12:48 am

hahahhaa Yea I think hes more evil than this

Leif Hearne March 19, 2007 at 12:25 am

I stumbled across a news article today that made me think of you.

The headline? Convicted Japanese Dotcom Tycoon Defiant

For a second I thought it might be you, but I thought you were chinese…. :)

hmtksteve March 19, 2007 at 5:03 am

John is not Japanese.

Stephen March 19, 2007 at 11:39 am

Yeah, they would never take him! Too Evil!

Saman Sadeghi March 19, 2007 at 3:25 pm

Also, the Clan of Evil would do what they could to stop them from taking our leader!!

Jane May March 19, 2007 at 12:33 pm

Have you DNA tested him???

Luis Alberto March 19, 2007 at 1:20 am

OMG, hahahaha… I laughed so hard, my dog came running to see what was happening… jajajaja… I’m sending it to some friends…

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:09 pm

I had tears in my eyes by the end of the clip.

Justin Slife March 19, 2007 at 1:21 am

That was great…I know a couple people that deserve that kind of spa treatment.

Harry Maugans March 19, 2007 at 1:52 am

That was HILARIOUS!! Haha

StormVideographer March 19, 2007 at 3:30 am

Evil must see TV. That was funny!

acoustic guitar MP3s March 19, 2007 at 3:32 am

At first, I thought the language was going to prevent me from really enjoying it.

But, “evil” translates pretty well without words. ;-)

Walter Vos March 19, 2007 at 4:33 am

Totally freaking hilarious!

Though I feel bad for the little who saw his dad fly out of the building. I hope he’s not traumatised….

lyndonmaxewell March 19, 2007 at 5:03 am

That was plain wicked! Especially the second one – ‘rocket’ powered chair. :D I pity the guy that wasn’t wearing anything!

WildBluff_Matt March 19, 2007 at 5:49 am

Yeah, that’d definitely be rather embarrassing.

Harry L March 19, 2007 at 6:04 am

This is a good way to start off the week!

There was a similar one a few weeks ago ( possibly the same japanese tv show) where they set up pubic toilets. The only catch was that the toilet had a trick floor that would rise up through the roof when someone was in it. A person would be going to the bathroom and all of a sudden they would be out in the open air for everyone to see!

Joseph.C March 19, 2007 at 6:54 am

I guess there is a little evil in all of us..

Mark Shead March 21, 2007 at 7:10 pm

I guess there aren’t as many lawsuits over there.

Scott March 19, 2007 at 6:57 am

“I wonder if I can set up this type of spa on Grouse Mountain.”

It would give new meaning to The Grouse Grind.

Aris March 19, 2007 at 7:20 am

Where is Grouse Mountain and how you get them to sign a release form?

Robert March 19, 2007 at 8:20 am

That was hilarious!

HMTKSteve March 19, 2007 at 9:27 am

You will always be the evil one to us ;)

Jane May March 20, 2007 at 1:09 am

auh, that’s kinda sweet

Hollywood Gossip March 19, 2007 at 9:29 am

Does anyone else have problems with embeded videos and wordpress. whenever i try to put one in the formatting of the page goes ape shit

Shaun Carter March 19, 2007 at 12:03 pm

Hey John,

That video made me laugh harder than I ever have… thank you so much! lol

Shaun

Dean March 19, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Yeah, you could never do that in America, we American’s would sue that show so quickly. Too bad though, I wish we had more shows that laughed at life like this.

Alan Milford March 19, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Haha! Great find John, fantastic video to brighten up an otherwise dull Monday afternoon, and Dean is right, it’s a pity there aren’t more shows like this!

I will of course be looking twice at every seat next time I go skiing anywhere near Japan.

Marc March 19, 2007 at 1:11 pm

I have to say at first I thought, oh no. Some silly video clip…

Then I say them being dumped backwards, got a chuckle and thought, “OK, I can watch this.”

Then came the rocket propelled chair…

Then the tears of laughter came…

Xof March 19, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Those Japanese are craaaazey

ilker March 19, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Funny.. but seen it before!

Zach March 19, 2007 at 3:57 pm

haha i love how crued they are to each other

Zach March 19, 2007 at 3:59 pm

those people must have had to sign some sort of waiver.

Michael Kwan March 20, 2007 at 12:29 am

You would hope so. Something about not being responsible for malfunctioning machinery.

Mark Shead March 21, 2007 at 7:06 pm

So you think they knew what was going to happen and did it anyway? I’m pretty sure they hadn’t signed anything.

Alan March 20, 2007 at 2:55 am

That was great, I needed a good laugh. :)

Wow this would never fly in North America!!!!

Nathan Drach March 20, 2007 at 7:06 am

A good find from samons site. Man, nothing funnier than surprise public nudity!

Mark Shead March 21, 2007 at 7:03 pm

So did they have to get permission from these people like they would need to do in the US?

Article Checker April 5, 2007 at 4:48 am

If I had to choose between the two “rides,” I’d go for the “quick escape.” LOL this clip is hilarious!
