Are You a Pro Blogger? Take The Test and Find Out
written by John Chow on September 6th, 2007
While surfing over at Daily Blog Tips, I noticed an ad for a Pro Blogger Test. The test is actually put on by Daily Blog Tips and asks 20 questions about web design, SEO, online marketing and more. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes to do.
Do you think you have what it takes to a professional blogger? Take the test and find out. This is what I scored.

You can’t get more pro than that.
What did you score? By the way, this test is great linkbait! I should create some kind of test as well.

Wow John, you’re really good!
You would think so, since he is making over 20k a month!
The littlest things make the biggest difference. I need to learn all these little things. Especially after taking that test.
V
Yeah, I would suggest profit is a much better measurement of whether someone is a pro blogger or not.
Oh dear, I only got 40%! Quite dissappointing lol
I also got 100%. Why don’t I feel any more “specialer” than before? I doubt that’s a word either.. *=)
The questions aren’t that hard. It’s been around a long time as well….still a good piece of linkbait.
Yay i got burned on Feedburner and technorati..fun to run such test, just if the questions were a bit more harder.
Same here Aaron. It just tells you that you need to learn a bit more.
V
50% for me… not much better
35% ouch! I guessed on just about every one of them. I see these things (like trackback) – I have yet to find a decent definition. Sometimes there is TOO much information.
So much to learn…..

Don’t feel bad, I got 25%
Then again, I only been blogging for only a little over a month.
Well, if you looked at the correct answers, you’ve already learned more!
Likewise. Depressing. I’m just way too creative for standardized testing
I don’t really feel the test is that good of a gauge. Just a creative bit of linkbait.
Someone should make a real test
True that, it is a linkbait (that many newbies will bite on that test as well). Tho i wish there was a real test (but not about How many backlinks you need to get on top 100 in technorati sheesh.)
The test was supposed to funny and informative.
What would a “real test” be? I am really curious about that
Lets see the aftermath lol I am gonna take the test now!
LOL I got 20% hahaha
70% – not too bad I guess.
Me too
Damn that is still pretty good. Better than me
V
After taking the test 100% is actually very impressive – as long as you didn’t look anything up!
Why am I not surprised that Mr. John Chow got 100%. Shocker! My score on the other hand was pathetic, but I already knew I wasn’t a pro blogger.
Got 60% – I guess I have some work to do.
70% here.
I think I got 80% myself…
100% here too.
Wasn’t THAT tricky
What do you read to get 100%?
V
90% for me
I want such test on Johnchow
50%. Damn! A quiz like this made into a site would be an interesting concept. Sure would help freshen and sharpen SEO / Web 2.0 knowledge.
Good test. Got 70%, i guess not bad. I never knew Digg was behind Reddit in Alexa ranking
Got 40% ! Oh well. As long as I do better in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology I can live with that =)
Are biochemistry and molecular biology more fun than blogging?
V
i got 65%
I got 60%, but it should have been higher. I misclicked the social bookmarking one. So 60-60%
Rolled in at an 85%… just like most of my college courses
Really though, I’m not sure what some of those questions have to do with problogging. I mean yeah it’s nice to know but, you wouldn’t NEED to know that stuff to make it as a blogger.
Man, your RSS number just shot through the roof!
And I got a 60%.
Damnnn! I’ve got only 35%
causes my bad english?
45% haha!
I got a 65%. Then again, I just started my site 5 days ago.
25%…I’m 1/4 on my way to being a pro blogger, rofl.
80% over here!
I got a 20, not bad for a month that I’ve been blogging, that means that in less than 2 month I will be a pro blogger. let me check, mr Chow has been blogging since 2000, Darren Rowse since 2003, and it only will take me two months? life is good, will I get invited to the annual blogging conference in new York? or I’m not quite there yet? heheheh. good test though.
I’m not even going to take the test because a starter I know I can never pass as a pro blogger, but just wanted to say what great content you have on your blog. Keep up the good work!
55%
Is that like being a solid player on a Triple A baseball team?
Not a pro, but fairly good.
I took the test but failed the physical
wow, I am NOT a pro! I got a 50%
Woah. 25%.
I was looking at those thinking, “why the heck don’t I know this stuff?!?!”
One of the best links you’ve ever posted.
45%, but I am disappointed in the question simply because they deal with SEO and Money Making Questions. Where is the writing and grammars stuff?
I tried to focus on related topics like SEO, online marketing and web development. I think writing and grammar deserve a separate test.
Wow, I just blew an hour on Daily Blog Tips. What an excellent site. I grabbed the feed!
70% for me, but I knew I was good
I am so embarrassed!!!
I fell at the first hurdle. I have so much more to learn. The test was a great way to identify what things I ought to know in order to run a successful blog. I am on a huge learning curve but am benefiting from Johns blog and from the great comments from fellow, more experienced bloggers.
Thanks everybody. I’m watching, learning and putting into action your fantastic tips.
If the test is rather simple-minded (and narrow-minded), is it really good link bait? People get tired of gimmicks, especially when the gimmicks actually take the target’s time. There are some really popular political bloggers on the web who get articles written about them in major newspapers such as the Globe and Mail, but they do not use ads or things like Technorati and Feedburner, and their educated audiences would be turned off if they did. (And as an aside, do the really major informational websites, like the New York Times and the Washington Post, use likes of Technorati and Feedburner? These big newspapers do contain and/or promote blogs. I mean compared to the Times and the Post, Technorati is pure junk.)
Besame, Besame mucho, como si fuera esta noche la ultima vez, hehehe. do I sound like andrea Boccelli or what
? I come singing to Mr. Chow’s blog. Dave, what’s up Dave? you don’t get it dave, these people blogging about politics probably are rotten with money that they don’t have to put ads to make a buck or two a week to pay web hosting and domain name registrations. another thing dave, Technorati is a blog search engine, unlike NY times and the post which are newspapers and they promote who they choose to, I rather use technorati and feedburner to catch a reader or two, instead of trying to get the post and the NY times to publish one of my posts even though I only get mediocre readers. are you republican?
Excellent link bait idea. Tests and quizzes work well.
I got a 70%. I’m glad my paychecks aren’t coming from them
The ones I got wrong don’t really bother me.
Well only 30%… that is not good… I have to improve.
Hmm, I got 70%, not bad really!
I did this a while ago..i don’t think i did well…..wow..100%..
Useless tool. I dont think it is anyway related to blogging stuff
Well keep up testing yourself
someday for sure some of you’ll get 100% …
