Being Featured In The WordPress Showcase

written by John Chow on January 27, 2009

How to make $593 in less than one hour

Being featured at WordPress.org

John Chow dot Com has reached another first. The blog has been selected as a showcase blog at WordrPess.org. According to WordPress, my blog was selected for the following reason:

John serves as the quintessential example of the financial power of blogging and has made it his job and his hobby to tell others just how to make the most of blogging.

As you no doubt know, WordPress.org is a very BIG site (they are the world’s biggest blogging platform) and the traffic coming from it has been significant. I would like to welcome all the new visitors. Please consider subscribing to my blog and following me on Twitter.

For all my current readers, please go to the WordPress showcase and give my blog five stars!

How To Be a WordPress Showcase Blog

Want to be featured as a WordPress showcase blog? Then go here to submit your site. Submitting your blog is the easy part. The hard part is getting selected for the showcase. Blogs and web sites powered by WordPress that make it into the Showcase are typically doing one or more of the following:

  • Using WordPress in a unique or innovative way.
  • Attracting tens of thousands of regular readers.
  • Being written by someone famous or especially notable in his or her particular field.
  • Representing a notable organization, government entity, or corporation as an official blog or web site.

While only a relatively small number of submissions are eventually added to the WordPress Showcase, a number of exceptional sites and blogs are added weekly. Only sites that are added to the Showcase will be notified via email.

You do not need to be the site’s owner to submit the site to the WordPress Showcase. However, if you do not own the site, please note that in your submission. Multiple submissions are welcome and will be considered independently of each other. It is not necessary to suggest tags or a potential description when submitting your site, but doing so can be helpful.

If you think your blog’s got what it takes to make the showcase, then go submit it!

That’s great John, glad to hear.

I hope someday I’ll see my blog there…

Congrats John!

monetize monetize monetize

Article Spinning January 27, 2009 at 5:07 am

Ha ha ha, while that’s cool, he should monetize with some caution, though. We don’t want what happened to Ask.com to happen to JohnChow.com, do we?

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 1:19 pm

There was a point in 2008 where it was getting to be too much, with paid reviews about sleeping pills and stuff :(

Ryan McLean January 27, 2009 at 4:07 pm

My blog is definately not ready for the showcase yet
But I am getting a new theme in a few months so it might be ready then

SEO Tips January 27, 2009 at 4:27 am

Congratulations John.

Do you think Wordpress looks specifically at the traffic the Blog receives when selecting a Blog or do you think they look past this and look typically at the aesthetics and material on the blog?

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 1:03 pm

I think they’re looking for people who have taken their platform to a new level, and taken the entire Wordpress community further through Innovation. John has done this through monetization, I’d assume.

Reyn Aria January 27, 2009 at 4:51 am

Congrats, John. You even qualified for 3 out of the 4 criteria. Well done! Soon, I’ll get there too ;)

I am glad to be one of the quintessential readers and commentators of one of the quintessential blogs, :D But seriously, John, you deserve it. Keep up with the good content and I am sure this is just the beginning. Congratulations.

Hi John,

Congratulations on having your blog showcased by wordpress. I really want to get where you are, I have the time but not the money as you featured in your video. Wonderful pictures of you in the park.

Best wishes
Christine

Sooner or later I will get to the tens of readers – what? Tens of THOUSANDS? that might take a while.
I am going to add a Wordpress Showcase – Showdown to my list of goals.

Congratulations by the way. When I first started reading about blogging and making money on line, your name & site was mentioned by far the most – you weren’t hard to find.

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Yea.

Shoemoney, John Chow, and Problogger are what I like to consider the “Big Three”.

Taris Janitens January 27, 2009 at 8:19 am

Bravo!!! I can only imagine how many more readers this is bringing you – from what I can tell, your RSS has increased by a couple thousand!!

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 12:58 pm

Wow, that’s spectacular!

Makes sense though, since the Wordpress crowd are the people are more familiar with RSS feeds and the such.

Reyn Aria January 27, 2009 at 9:08 pm

Congratz on being selected. That is an awesome honor and a great step for your blog. I appreciate the details as to how to get listed and can only hope that some years down the road I will have developed a site worthy of being submitted.

Congrats John! Keep up the Good work

Webmasterstown January 27, 2009 at 8:46 am

Congratz John! I wonder how many uniques you received since you have been featured ?

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 12:56 pm

I’m wondering the same thing.

Wordpress is featured on various news sites as well all the time, so it must be pretty colossal.

Sean January 27, 2009 at 9:26 am

Awesome work! Congrats on the feature

Money Is Everywhere January 27, 2009 at 9:31 am

Pheak Tol January 27, 2009 at 9:44 am

is there anything that you haven’t won (or recognized for) yet, congrats

Tushar January 27, 2009 at 7:11 pm

Election to become President of the United States, or in John’s case, Prime Minister of Canada.

:)

TYCP Entertainment Magazine January 31, 2009 at 3:43 am

Well, you need to be American to become President in the States, so Canada it is!

Jon Griffith January 27, 2009 at 9:58 am

Congrats! I always enjoy reading the articles here and to have recognition, while not the pinnacle of success in my opinion, certainly is a complement to the hard work you do.

ZK@WebTrafficROI.com January 27, 2009 at 9:58 am

You deserve it and I do feel that they should have done it before one year. But its ok … Our own John is now in wordpress showcase. Thats awesome.

Congratulation.

Harry Tran January 27, 2009 at 11:31 am

Congrats John! It’s good to see hard work paying off. I would have assumed your blog would have been showcased a while ago. Your site has been a great help to me thus far and look forward to more great info from you.

Congratulations John! Good work!

Pete January 28, 2009 at 9:49 am

Congrats John, this is a nice achievement.

Too bad my http://ww2db.com site, as well as most others in my portfolio, are all self-coded. That gives me 100% flexibility to do whatever I want, but I suppose I lose out on awards like this even if I can (and I do) attract tens of thousands of regular visitors.

But it’s not about me, it’s about you! Congrats once again!

contentpig January 28, 2009 at 9:51 am

Congrats Sir,

I have already rated you 5 Stars. Way to go!

That’s cool! I’m going to submit two of my sites when I’m ready.

Jason Sieckmann February 1, 2009 at 1:58 am

So it’s pretty elitist. I guess that promotes what they want though. Who covers the little guy though?

Douglas February 1, 2009 at 7:29 pm

John, congratulations on your site being added to the Showcase. Thanks for letting others know about the Showcase. It is continuing to grow in terms of traffics and submissions each day!

@ SEO Tips Traffic is not a necessity. We’ve added some very small sites that are doing some very cool things with WordPress. Hopefully, with their addition to the Showcase, they grow quite a bit, but a large amount of traffic or huge number of subscribes is by no means required to have your site added to the Showcase.

@ Jason Sieckmann I don’t know if elitist is a fair label. The purpose of the Showcase is of course to Showcase the best and most notable installations of WordPress. The Showcase has to be selective or it loses its purpose and value.

If anyone has any questions or comments about the Showcase, feel free to let us know!

Ali Hussain February 1, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Thanks for the tips on how to get listed. Also, good luck. Added a 5-star
