Best Company To Work For In America
written by John Chow on May 22nd, 2007
I suppose if you had to work at a job, you can do a lot worse than working at Google. According to Fortune magazine, you can’t find a better place to work in America than at Google. Here’s a little three minute video from Oprah explaining why Google is the best place to work. I wonder who they would rank in the world?

Does working at home count?
Reply to this commentit wouldn’t be a company, would it?
Reply to this commentya Google is like a resort
Reply to this commentReally a nice company, but the own everything
Reply to this commentTo answer your question, I typed “number one best place to work in the world” into Google and got…
… Google
Reply to this commentLOL surprise, surprise! It does look like a fun environment to work in though. Kinda like that Antitrust movie with Ryan Philippe and Tim Robbins — minus the psycho boss part.
Reply to this commentMan, that’s seriously depressing..
That’s the next best thing after working at home
Reply to this commentGoogle won’t employ the likes of me (sob) but at least I have shares! Mwa-ha-ha…
Reply to this commentAcquiring shares from Google may be the next best thing to actually working there, yeah.
Reply to this commentI have the best job too, I work for myself. Nothing can be better than that.
Reply to this commentI wouldn’t work for Google even if they paid me. Oh wait! They do pay me (AdSense) and I don’t work for them!
Reply to this commentActually you kinda do…
Reply to this commentIt’s true. Whether you answer to a boss or not, Adsense still has a box you have to work inside of. It’s a far more liberating job than most, but there’s still a boss
Reply to this commentYes, but do you get free food from them, John?
Seriously, I can’t get a job at Google… They all already speak English! mmm… oh, well.
Reply to this commentWell, they kind of pay for his restaurant meals
Reply to this commentAmazing! I gotta get a job there.
Reply to this commentany job opening still?
Reply to this commentSure, man, just send in your resume! After that episode aired I’m pretty sure the competition to get in just got a little tougher, but who knows?!
Reply to this commentbut I am in Malaysia
Reply to this commentFree massages, free food, they are sort of a difficult act to follow.
Reply to this commentGoogle gets 1 Million resumes and hires 5000 people…. Now, that’s some selection! The way Microsoft use to be 5-10 years ago.
Reply to this commentNo surprise there! Google only hires brainiacs, so poor dolts like me miss out. Plus, I am an old geezer in their eyes. Rock on!
Reply to this commentI think I saw a few slightly older people in there somewhere; there is much hope, my friend.
Reply to this commentDid he say ‘Rock On’?
Reply to this commentYeah LOL he did. Way to go, rockin’ ol’ geezer!
Reply to this commentThey look geekier that Bil Gates.
Reply to this commentHey John just thought you should know that ashleychow.com is defaced.
Reply to this commentI think i actually read somewhere that their engineers actually get paid below average salaries for the industry. I guess all the other perks make up for it though. I hope i got the right company though. I read so much crap sometimes i get it mixed up. Can anyone confirm this?
Reply to this commentI saw an offer sheet once. Looked fairly standard, the stock options were what had the potential to really sweeten the deal though. The raw salary didn’t look below average to me. But then, that’s just one of several thousand employees.
Reply to this commentEven if they got a measly pay I’m sure they can’t complain. For an employee, those perks definitely make the work all worthwhile. I mean, having someone do your laundry WHILE you’re playing beach volleyball five cartwheels away from your computer — that’s pretty tough to beat right there.
Reply to this commentAgreed. The idea of someone doing my laundry for me as part of the deal is impressive indeed
Reply to this commentYeah, all those perks are so people can work longer hours than average!
I bet there are no 35 hour weeks there!
Reply to this commentI heard that Microsoft has similar perks.
Here’s the story from MSNBC:
Microsoft said it would supply free towels in company showers, better food in staff canteens and on-site laundry service in an effort to boost employee morale as it battles for talent with Google and other recent start-ups.
Reply to this commentThe new battle has indeed been going on for a while. They’re all scrambling to get the best and brightest.
I wonder why my phone’s not ringing with offers…
Reply to this commentI wonder no more - I know and live happily thereafter
Reply to this commentAh nice, seen this video ages ago though
Reply to this commentgoogle definitely has to be the best place to work.
Reply to this commentI wouldn’t mind working at Pixar, too. But hey, Google comes in close second (as if they’re going to hire me anyway LOL).
Reply to this commentYeah, I got a kick out of that video also.
Reply to this commentI think they have created a fantastic business.
Reply to this commentI still would not want to work there. I think there are better jobs or at least better income sources.
