Setting The Tone for 2008

It’s a brand new month (and a brand new year) and that means it’s time for the monthly John Chow dot Com blog income report. Way back in September of 2006, I decided to do a little experiment to see if money can really be made by blogging. Before that time, John Chow dot Com was simply a personal blog and didn’t make any money.

Starting with just Google AdSense, the blog made $352.94 in its first month as a monetized site and quickly grew from there. The blog made $25,040.36 last month.

January is one of the most important months because it sets the tone for the rest the year. It’s always better to start off on a high note than a low one. While traffic is normally higher in January, advertising rates are generally lower because the holiday shopping season is over. The result is usually a drop in income. However, I’m happy to report that not only did John Chow dot Com beat the December income, it set a new income record.

Total Blog Income for January 2008: $30,616.35

January 2008 will go down as the month the blog broke the $30,000 mark. It’s amazing to see that only a year ago, the blog income was “only” $3,440.66. Here’s the income break down.

Blog traffic for January was 280,788 page views from 147,278 unique visitors, according to Google Analytics. If you take the blog page views and divide it by the blog income, you get a site wide eCPM of $109.04. What this means is for every 1000 page views, John Chow dot Com made over $100, or 10 cents per view. How much would your blog be making if you made $100 for every 1000 page views?

Blog expenses for the month were $464.29 for contextual advertising and $25 for a private ad. Hosting for John Chow dot Com is sponsored by BlueFur Web Hosting. Use coupon code JohnChowRocks to get 15% off any BlueFur hosting packages.

Want To Be a Six Figure Blogger?

The key to making money online is to drive a lot of traffic and then maximize the income from that traffic. Most bloggers don’t do this. I can’t keep count on the number of blogs I’ve seen running Google AdSense and nothing else. If you’ve been reading John Chow dot Com for even a short time, then you know that Google is not the only game in town. Never put your eggs in one basket. It’s a message I’ve been saying for over a year. Check out my recommended money makers to see what ad networks I used to produce my blog income.

I also recommend you download my free eBook, Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com. The book explains the methods I used to create content, drive traffic and make money. You can get it by signing up for my free newsletter at the top center of the page.

I too am breaking my own record month after month. Somehow I don’t think that I can compare myself to Joh though! I went from $0.59 in November to $3.03 in December to over $24.00 in January. I only hope I can keep a pace like Mr. Chow. Very impressive John I will continue to take your advice!

My November months income was $0.58, for Dec 07, it was $4.18 and for Jan 08, it is $3.46 only. I did not work for a whole month in January but still I made $3.46, it amaed my. I doubt John will turn his blog from what his yearly earning are from it (reported in Entrepreneur Magazine) to monthly in the space of 12 month however, if you a targetting the $40-50,000/month that more realistic.

However if you take John’s other online entities into consideration and look at the expected growth of the advertising industry by Jan 2009 he could possibly be close to that figure/month.

Unless you’re TC, it’s hard to expect such earnings form the blog in itself. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him raking in over $300k monthly from all of his online activities in 2008 however.

    “increase my pay”

Are you sure you want that ? Seriously ?

    - How about :
    *Gift from a friend ( John ) : 4 new Snow tires.
    *Increased visibility/advertising here.
*Your own Category and Box —————>>>
Below “John chow dot com sponsors”
You get Category “John Chow dot com contributors” or “John chow dot com slave”
With your own Blog logo and Business Logo leading to your Blog and Business.
    * In the Link Category at the bottom be added as Top spot on Friends and familly.
    * John could use is clouth or money to get you a deal on a free Design upgrade on your blog to be making more money.
*John could help you get new sponsors and be the first with a paid TTZ sponsoring logo.

Little more pay = more taxes. More visibility and more help = lot more money before and after taxes.

I’m not sure what doubters you’re talking about. There’s no doubting that this blog makes a lot of money. The criticism I’ve leveled at John most often is not providing value often enough. Inspiration is great but there’s a lot of nuts and bolts stuff that would be much more valuable when the rubber meets the road.

É melhor 500$ de 10 programas do que 500$ do Adsense pois se um acaba perdem pouco, se o Adsense vos bane ficam com 0! Sigam o exemplo do MR Chow! [...]
