Blog Income Report - November 2007
written by John Chow
It’s the start of the month and that means it’s time once again to find out how much John Chow dot Com made the month before. For some reason, the income report is always my most popular post of the month. There are two ways to look at this. One, it’s a good way to start a new month on a high note or, two, it’s all downhill after this post (until next month anyway).
These income reports came about because of a case study I started way back in September 2006. I wanted to see if money can be made by blogging and using this blog as a test case seem logical. Before September, John Chow dot Com was simply a personal blog for me to ramble about whatever was on my mind and didn’t make any money.
The blog made $352.94 in its first month as a monetized blog and by November 2006, it pulled down $2,139.93. Last month, the blog did a record $23,448.59 and I’m sure everyone is wondering if that record got broken. Here’s your answer.
Total Blog Income for November 2007: $27,240.83
November is traditionally the best month for making money on the Internet and it was certainly the best month this blog has ever experienced. It’s amazing to think that only one year ago, the blog made “only” $2,13.93. Here is the income breakdown.
- Private Ad Sales: $12,854.84
- Affiliate Commissions: $6,579.67
- ReviewMe: $4,400.00
- Text Link Ads: $2,012.66
- Kontera: $1,000.00
- TTZ Media: $348.50
- Subscription: $40.00
- ShoppingAds: $5.16
- Grand Total: $27,240.83
Blog traffic held steady at 323,572 page views from 185,386 visitors, according to Google Analytics. If you take the blog page views and divide it by the blog income, you get a site wide eCPM of $84.19. That means this blog makes over $80 every time 1,000 pages are viewed, or over 8 cents per page. How much would your blog be making if you can achieve this level of eCPM?
The high eCPM rate was achieved by maximizing as many revenue opportunities as possible while still preserving the user experience. This blog started with only Google AdSense. Since then, I have experimented with dozens of monetization methods. Some have worked really well while others were a complete flop. The key is to always be tweaking and not stand still. If you haven’t touch up your revenue mix in the past six months, it’s time to get your hands dirty. If you don’t have a revenue mix, then check out my recommended money makers to see what ad networks I used to produce all this income.
Blog expense for the month include $566.52 for Google Adwords advertising and $25 for a private ad. Hosting for John Chow dot Com is sponsored by BlueFur Web Hosting. Use coupon code JohnChowRocks for 15% off any BlueFur hosting packages. However, the coupon doesn’t work for their current $10 for 1 year hosting deal because it’s a super deal already.

Not only is the newsletter free but you’ll also get my eBook, Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com, for free when you sign up. I do not expect to beat the November income this month. December is good for the first three weeks but it’s pretty dead in the last week because of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. However, this doesn’t mean I’m not going to try. ![]()

CJ seems to have worked well for you. Adsense however requires a lot of traffic. Good Luck.
Adsense is also so very unpredictable…and yes, does require substantial traffic
This is the first month that Adsense wasn’t my main earner. Start Blogging is also a side-project that I’m working on and it’s my lowest earner out of 4 blogs that I own. I don’t expect much in terms of Adsense.
to a lot of beginners out there, adsense is still their first preferred choice… the key is how long will it took them to experiment with other moneymaking tools…
btw congratz john ^^
i remove adsense from my blog, and so fat i make pretty good money with my blog.
John, I don’t get it, why are you still keeping the shoppingads here? adsense is definitely gives you better isn’t it? and why not ttzmedia? as on my experience, ttzmedia gives me so much more money then adsense.
The eCPM for my niche sites was $60 today, not far off yours John! I’d buy shares in john chow dot com if I could!
I agree. Adsense can be a bit tricky, but with this much traffic, it’s hard not to see results.
Adsense doesn’t always require tons of traffic. I’ve had many months of an eCPM of over $100 with sites in the travel niche. It has a lot to do with ad placement as well.
I would be interested in hearing all of your money making startegies as compared to those of John Chow’s. what do you do the same as John and what do you do differently? i just started my blog Not John Chow dot Com on November 1st and I have made a total of 59 cents so far!
Congrats on your 59 cents! We all have to start somewhere.
If you want to be like John Chow, you need to post pictures of your special events like wedding, trying out new restaurants and take pictures of the food. Just mixed that and money making online and you’ll be making money like John Chow within a year.
Of course, you need to know what you’re talking about when it comes to making money online.
I happen to like reading about food
Yes, I agree. Not a lot of traffic but a niche which has a good conversion. Placement too.
to many beginners out there, adsense will still be their first choice of moneymaking tool…
btw, congrats john ^^
adsense really counts on your traffic and contents that are relevant to your blog.
I wonder just how many people hit that $27k per month mark!
When will it stop growing!? Impressive as always.
I bet he is hitting on wood when reading that :P…
and a new milestone .. 27k USD in one month by blogging..one economic car a month lmao
It’ll never stop. I’m guessing we’ll come here one day and see a blog income report in excess of $50k a month.
I am a conservative person but I do have the feeling he is gonna reach $30k next month
It will be awesome when he reaches $90K, that’d mean he’s a millionaire!
Nope, $90K is a long way to go
Oh, i meant “when” he reaches 90K…
@Michael,
$30k? i don’t know, it would be pretty hard since John probably become so busy with Christmas and NewYear Eve. But it would be crazy if John really did it!
theres still room for growth, just dont think john knows it all or has the time or wants to invest his time to do the other things he can.
Oh my goodness…that is amazing!!!! More power to you!!! Congrats!!
Great stuff. Congrats
That is more than I make in a year…and I don’t mean blogging - I mean as a teacher!
I’ve never made that kind of money yet in my entire life.
omg, great man…I already read your ebook and it’s starting to work for me ^^, thanks keep growing
Congrats John! Great job.
I´m so close behind you in earnings, maybe my chance comes in December.
Cheers

Congrats on another great month John!
John, you are lucky..I learned something on how to manipulate the Google Page Rank -> I did it !! Make $5k in a month, thanx JC for inspiring me on how to slapped the big G bitch !!
That’s insane Chow! You made $4K more than last month. I’d just take the increase at this point.
Who wouldn’t? 99.9% of bloggers will never come close to the $4,000/month mark.
74% of that income came from private ads and affiliate sales. I think it’s become obvious now that a blogger’s best chance to earn a living is through direct sales and affiliate marketing.
$5.16 from ShoppingAds though????
