Blog World Expo 2010 – Day 1 Recap

Blog World Expo 2010

Nothing much happens on the first day of Blog World. The show floor won’t be opened until tomorrow so the only action are the sessions and panels. This year’s Blog Worlds looks quite a bit bigger than last. It’s pretty clear to me that the recession hasn’t slow the growth of blogging or social media in any way. For 2010, Blog World moved from the Las Vegas Convention Center to Manderlay Bay and I say it was a good move. The LVCC is way too big a place to hold Blog World.

The wireless at the show is very hit and miss. Depending on the number of people logged on, the speed range from slow to I can’t log on at all. I’m writing this recap from the free Internet in my room, which is wired only. The Luxor still lives in 1996 and doesn’t have wireless Internet. I feel sorry for anyone that has a Macbook Air.

This is the first Blog World where I will attempt to cover the show with an Apple iPad only. I think it will make for a good experiment. The iPad is so light and portable, it’s a natural trade show device. I’m seeing them all over the Expo.

There is a party tonight at Liquid Pool Lounge at ARIA Resort and Casino at CityCenter. I won’t be going because I have a private dinner to attend. However, if past shows are any indication, I won’t be missing much. Blog World has a ways to go before they can start matching the parties thrown at the Affiliate Summit.

The Blog World Lunch

The Blog World lunch is open to all full access pass holders and featured a three course meal that started OK then went completely downhill. The steak was dry and tasteless and had no seasoning at all. Luckily, future lunches are in the form of $20 coupons to be used at a few of the hotel restaurants.

It was a good first day… but tomorrow should be better with out panel going on and the exhibit hall opening up.

    1. The second day should be better especially if you are going to be on.

John did a good job with the pictures. Perhaps the meal wasn’t that bad but John has a very discriminating gourmet-like taste.

      1. Yes second day we can expect more people as those people who attend first day will spread the message more.

        1. When there is fun and something meaningful in the event, and it could be reach by everyone it sure will have a lot more attendees. But I expect some is still on the way there and not able to join the first day.

  2. d3so says:

lol the food looks good but looks can be deceiving.
When the action starts tomorrow, don’t forget to film!

    1. PPC Ian says:

The food really does look good. I agree though that especially at Las Vegas tradeshows looks can deceive – sometimes the food is just too rich!

      1. Here we are missing video … John …

        1. Yeah, I was hoping for a video from John.

    2. Alex Dumitru says:

I think I’m going to eat something. That food made me feel hungry 🙂

      1. That is the common comment which we heard everytime whenever THE JOHN CHOW add food’s photos.

  3. Great. I wish I too could be part of this grand opening.

  4. some big names at this years Blog World. I see that Adam Carolla is speaking as well.

    1. d3so says:

Really? Adam is one of my all-time favorite comedians.

  5. Tom Weyers says:

Looks like a good event, wish they would hold events on that scale in the UK.

However, I don’t see that happening anytime soon, so I guess I better start saving…

  6. bendansurf says:

    Hmmmm, wish I were there.

    1. d3so says:

lol who doesn’t wish they were there?

      1. Right now I don’t. It’s a great day in Vancouver and I have better things to do today.

Tomorrow may be another story. Generally I’d like to be there but not today.

With John reporting through his iPad it’s like half way being there.

Well, not quite but at least we have an idea about what it’s like being there.

I wonder if John will get a gold mask treatment at Mandalay Bay.

  7. ivin says:

All the Big Dogs. Hehe. The dish in the second pic looks disgusting!

  8. John, seems like things are moving slowly..and you guy look to be having fun..maybe next year when I come..then I can spice up the party..

  11. Hi John, Whoa, Dry Steak for 1,000 people, that = FAIL. Affiliate Summit has epic lunches, I was on the free Platinum Pass from Shawn and Missy in January 2009.

Sounds like a visit to BlogWorld Management is indicated for you Mr.Chow. They will no doubt be asking the caterers for some answers!

Have a great time at BlogWorld, I wanted t ointerview you but could not break away from my video production world. Respectfully, Nicholas Chase – producer / director / writer / affiliate

  13. I think despite the wireless and the food, John and co seems to be having fun. I guess the beauty of being a problogger is to be able to show your face at such events and not come home broke or being chased by a bank for the money you borrowed to go there…

I hope all of us aspiring to be pro bloggers and make enough money online will catch up this dream so as to show your tired faces at some of these events soon too..lol

  14. Avelltech says:

i can’t look in the food lol .. im really hungry now and when i see the delicious pictures I can’t help but to go down and eat.

  17. PPC Ian says:

Seems like a great conference. I can’t live without my iPad these days. It’s a conference must-have. So much easier to carry an iPad vs. laptop.

    1. d3so says:

lol, I still don’t have an ipad. I envy you Ian 😉

  18. Adam Snyder says:

If that is the picture of the steak you ate then yeah it looked pretty dry. I hope they all weren’t like that.

  19. XuanTuyen says:

Conference looks really spectacular and the food looks great too. I look forward to someday be the title Problogger.
    thank you..!

  20. Bidet says:

The food looked good in the pictures, looks can be deceiving.

  21. Rajnish says:

In the second picture you can see and imagine how much we will have to work hard to be there in the great expo.

  22. Wow, anyone know how to get into an expo like that?

  23. Wired Internet is good to use too. Since most of the time with wireless connection people usually have signal problem. Well it’s time you go back using wired internet now John.

  24. I will tell you one thing you at least eat well at these events!

  25. Day 1 recap always makes me that it all was just a startup and the peoples were not higher than me but after next videos to watch-out I thinks something to learn from the same.

  26. ikki says:

    great blog world expo (y)
