Bugatti Veyron Vs. Jet Fighter

The Bugatti Veyron is the fastest production Supercar money can buy. With 1001 HP, the mighty bug can go from 0 to 100MPH is 5.5 second and top out at 253MPH. However, speed is a relative term. What is fast in one reality isn’t so fast in another. So, what happens when $1.7 million Veyron meets up with a $45 million EF-2000 jet fighter for a drag race? This video will explain it.
To make the two mile long race more fair, the jet fighter has to do one mile going straight up, turn around and nose dive straight down to the finish line. The Bugatti will blast down to the mile mark, turn around and race back to the finish line. First one to cross the line wins. Who’s the winner? Watch the video and find out.

That is Hammond from the Brittish show Top Gear. He got into a really bad accident running a jet dragster not too long ago. From the looks of this video, this must have been before he went back on the show. It looks like he still has some remnants of the crash on the right side of his head.
I believe that James May, also from Top Gear, took the Veryon to Germany where they made it to top speed on the 5 mile straight away at the Volkswagen test track. How the car handled was simply amazing.
yeah, this was after his crash, was shown on BBC 2 weeks ago, would you do it after a crash like that? what a TV host…

as for those saying it’s not a fair race, the show - Top Gear is a fantastic car show in the UK and usually does at least one experiment every week, while these experiments are fun they are not scientific and should be taken with 1/2 a pinch of salt, usually done for fun & what great fun they have…

I don’t know if I would hop back in the saddle that soon after that kind of crash. Kudos to Hammond for sure. Yes, I love all the crazy experiments that they do. Did you see the one where they strapped solid rocket boosters to a car and shot it up like a space shuttle. It didn’t release and crashed and burned. Great show - I DVR it all the time.
Interesting - The video says that Hammond didn’t do what he was told. It goes on to say that he hit the brakes instead of staying “on the line.”
If I had that kind of money I’d rather get a yault.

It actually was slightly closer than I anticipated. As soon as the jet gets moving, there is no way on earth the car has a chance.

That’s tru but I think the VW beatle can beat both of them Kinda like me (the VW beatle) beating johnchow (the jet)
John, one can drop an apple from any altitude and it’ll come back down. But when attempting to throw an apple vertically up, it’ll only cover a limited short distant. The disadvantage significantly outweighs the advantage.
Notice how the Bugatti stood no chance against the Jet, when parallel horizontally, both at the start and the end of the race.
that’s a bullshit test, that jet fighter has a much bigger turn radius, make it fair and square. 1 mile both ways, with them stopping between those two. No turn radius in the equation.
Also he said, vertical vs horizontal? Nah that jet fighter was in that horizontal race too long before it started going vertically, that’s just not fair. If the race would have been fair veyron would have lost big time.
With that said, still an amazing car, on the paper. Still haven’t seen any real test runs of it, with sharp turns etc. Only straight where they show us it reaching its top speed.
This got me thinking, might be the only damn thing this car can do reach the amazing top speed, but on difficult circuits does it suck ass?
The tests on TopGear are just for fun so I wouldnt get all technical and worried about them being wrong or not.
Tiff drove the Veyron around a test track a few months back and it seemed to do well. It should be on YouTube if you do a search for tiff and veyron.
I wonder how they arranged a 45 million dollar jet plane to do a show like that? Like who do you ask? the government? and even then, its surprising that they would say sure, we’ll rent our jet to you… for nothing! or at least im assuming thats what they said…
A mile run isn’t exactly a drag race. In the late 80s early 90s Hot Rod magazine did a drag race between Don Garlit’s top fuel dragster and an F18. The F18 was timed launching off the carrier catapult and the dragster was timed for the same distance that the catapult ran. Don won.

Dragsters are just pure evil power. Some imported from the states in sweden are banned from the strip because they are too fast, stupid rules.
A dragster, that’s like taking a fighter engine, stripping off all weight, putting in a cage + seat and off you go. Would like to drive one of those.

That’s the first time the Veyron lost a challenge on Top Gear, and they blamed Hammond for it. Personally I think he bottled it in the turn, if they’d given the car to the Stig, their tame racing driver, the Euro Fighter may have had a closer race.
I think the jet needed to have landed to make it fair.

I’d like to sit or drive in one some time, but it’s too over hyped in my opinion. Yes, it’s fast. But the looks don’t appeal to me, and although the waiting list is like 3 years to get one, everyone knows about them…

I’ve decided after watching this video that my next car will in fact be a jet fighter. Not only can you outrace a veylon you can blow the crap out of rush hour traffic. Sweet.

At full throttle it gets 2.1 mpg! Full throttle is 487 kph however…

There was a video floating around the internet with a Lingenfelter Corvette vs F-18 Jet and the corvette kept up with him until he got off the ground. Just google it and I’m sure you’ll find it.
