Can I Afford To Buy Twitter?

Twitter is worth an estimated $1.5 billion. For most of us, it’s a figure that we simply cannot afford. However, if your name is Mark Z and you have $300 million in cash and $4 billion in Facebook stock, the story might be a little different. Still, Mark wasn’t sure if he could afford Twitter so he decided to call up financial guru Suze Orman during her “Can I afford it” segment to see if Miss Orman would approve of Mark spending $1.5 billion on the micro blogging platform.

Did Suze Orman approved or denied Mark’s request to buy Twitter? Watch the video to find out the answer.

  1. haha! That is classic. I wouldn’t if I was him, because Twitter is kinda just like Facebook’s poor cousin. DENIED! haha

    1. Ben Collins says:

Ha Agreed!! If you wanna go big Mr Z why not buy MS or Google.

If fact John, why don’t you team up and buy it. lol

      1. If you want to go big, buy Orman’s teeth. Looks like she’s spent more than what twitter costs on them!

        I can’t stand her.

        1. These plastic television presenters really grate my carrot too….

    2. jtGraphic says:

It’s probably best if he stays where he’s at with his money, because facebook has much more potential.

    3. FS says:

LoL. If I have half of his money, correction, 10% of his money. Iwould spend all my time at the beach, do nothing and think nothing….

  2. he can still afford it….but he has been asked not to spend on it….

  3. what do you advice him to do?

  4. ZXT says:

I think the real question is, is it for sale?

Even if he can afford it, if Twitter isn’t for sale then the argument is just useless.

    1. ibnujusup says:

agree… find other soon-to-be hit website… ex – another youtube kind of thing…

      1. There will be no other you tube my friend.

        Sun is only one.

  5. Liane says:

First of all, I do see the great potential one Mark Zuckerburg acquires Twitter. It would be a winning combo once the best mirco blogging tool and the most popular social networking site officially goes into one company name.

I just do see how a total acquisition would play into the game. I know for a fact that Mark Z already pooled in part of the $100 Mil (if I’m not mistaken) venture capital for Twitter. So technically, he already has a good slice in share of stock. My question is, what more is he really after?

And it’s not as if Biz Stone would let that happen easily. Or am I wrong? Well, shall we just leave this case to the billionaires? I’m pretty sure Bill G’s VCs are on the line too 😉

  6. I’m not seeing the upside personally.

  7. Warren says:

Well, I could probably afford twitterbuzzsoftware dot com at $247.00 or possibly even twittermarketingformula dot com at $297.00

But, I figured I’d better save hold out for fakebook dot com or some such! 😉

But seriously folks, who am I kidding?
maybe I should just focus on the one I’ve already got! 🙂

It’s going to be big enough for me!!!

  8. Diabetis says:

Why would he buy twitter in the first place if he already got Facebook?

    1. To kill twitter may be.

  9. That was funny! She put him right in his place!

  10. A.P.Scanner says:

Ha ha… poor Mark. The good thing is Suze Orman cut him off before he was able to indulge on an impulse buying spree.

“Why would he buy twitter in the first place if he already got Facebook?”. Expansion, man. And also crushing competition.

  11. Andrew says:

I think if he waits a while, he can buy Twitter at a lower price.

    Enjoyable video, thanks for this!

  12. jayant says:

i can afford to buy twitter……but not in this birth, next birth

  13. Now that is what the people in gaming world call “totally dominated”! Lol, 2 denials in 5 seconds – the lady seriously kicked his a**.

  14. Typhoon says:

ha ha..Nice watching that. I am not a regular follower of that show but sometime just while flicking channels, I catch that shown few times.

I really like the straightforward answers she gives to the callers. They appear to be very beneficial.

    1. She also seems to get some perverse pleasure out of being totally blunt……what gives with us deriving pleasure from the dumbness of our fellow human beings?

  15. If he bought Twitter, it would probably become Facebook 2.0

  16. Dan Mihaliak says:

Well John I only invest in profitable things and I don’t see twitter as it is now as being profitable so no I would not even be interested.

    1. John Chow says:

Anyone who pays $1.5 billion for Twitter better have money to burn because $1.5 billion is just the start. You still have to pay to run it after you bought it. LOL

      1. jtGraphic says:

Good point – it’s not like they have any income, lol

  17. Todo List says:

I don’t think twitter is for sale.

  18. CNA training says:

Awesome idea for creating viral content. Though Mr Z does not need any more popularity .

  19. LOL THAT WAS AWESOME!

    Was it real?

    1. John Chow says:

No it wasn’t real. It was made for the shorty awards. But don’t tell anyone. Let them think it’s real! LOL

      1. MLM Training says:

LOL John, I really thought this was for real! To bad is made up, it would have been really AWESOME if it was, but it still funny.

  20. How exactly does Twitter make money again???

  21. I believe Mark asked the wrong person. Suze Orman is a small person with a big name. What does she know about managing Billions of dollars. NOTHING. Forget the “book” you need physical experience to give advice for that amount of money. Suze is no better than your local financial advice radio show.

  22. Also may I add that she’s personal finance. This is way out of her league.

  23. I think one day Twitter will be bought just as how Google purchased You Tube.

    1. jtGraphic says:

I’m surprised that Google hasn’t bought twitter yet…

  24. filesraid says:

    OMG, even Mark Z can’t afford Twitter…
Maybe Sergey Brin can afford it… LOL

  25. Very funny! Also love the fact she denied foursquare and godaddy afterwards!

  26. Nick says:

Twitter isn’t for sale, and however, why he should buy twitter if he already has Facebook?

  27. Mathew Day says:

I would just stick with Facebook and see what happens to Twitter down the road.

    1. jtGraphic says:

      My thoughts exactly…

  28. Camsaurus says:

way to far to afford, twitter is not affordable for me, btw, I don’t know how monetize their site.

  29. hokya says:

i think FaceBook is much greater than Twitter,
there is no need to buy Twitter

    1. They have different function exactly.

      1. jtGraphic says:

I feel like twitter is more like facebook status updates.

  30. Wizno says:

Twitter is releasing an AD platform from what I’ve heard… aren’t they?

  31. Nathan Lee says:

    Wow! 300mil in liquid?

  32. Cash Genie says:

Nice one! I am sure Twitter is not on sale but Mark’s question seems interesting to me.
Twitter is becoming a hit, day by day it has increasing popularity.
He had good amount of money as well yea but he got denied.

  33. Susie drives me nuts. I one time heard her tell people not to look at silver as an investment strategy. Guess the people who bought gold in the 80s are glad they didn’t listen to her. Great blog John.

    1. jtGraphic says:

She can’t be right all the time – that’d make her more famous – like a seer or something…

  34. jtGraphic says:

    That was awesome.

  35. MLM Training says:

Does she even know who Mark Z is? LOL

  36. That woman talks rubbish. He shouldn’t buy twitter though, Facebook’s the way forward.

  37. fiber optics says:

That’s a pretty funny clip. Suze wouldn’t make the cut as an investment banker.

  38. If i have lots of money I’ll buy twitter because I know i can earn a lot from this site.

  39. Without competition, there would be no innovation. I think facebook is better with a twitter out there.

  40. john says:

I think you should buy it John

  41. fb is much better than twitter……..;;))

  42. Free Picks says:

why to buy twitter? better to go for facebook fan page
