Checking Out The Estates

written by John Chow on April 22, 2006

The Big Idea Mastermind

The Estates is a private and exclusive community of 17 showcase homes in the award-winning community of Heritage Woods, Port Moody, where all the dot com moguls lives (according to Stephen Fung). I’m still skeptical.

The homes at The Estates are definitely fit for a dot com mogul. The show home was 5,639 square feet of luxuriously finished living space. The home features a private wine cellar, exercise room, home theater and triple car garage. To top it all off, it even has an elevator in case you don’t want to use the stairs to transverse its three levels. See the floor plan here.

The living room is really more of a great room. It goes up 2 levels with plenty of glass to let the sun in. The patio at the top left is from the master bedroom. I guess if people downstairs are too noisy you can go to that patio and tell them to shut up.

The master bath is bigger than the average living room. The shower has four heads. An interesting design touch for this home is there is no door to separate the master bedroom from the master bath. The toilet is housed in it’s own little room with door and exhaust fan however.

The lower level is a fantastic entertainment floor. There is a bar with wine cellar, a billiard room, guest bedroom, home theatre, gym, sauna and a hot tub. If I live here, there would never be a need to leave home!

This is the main level patio. It has an outdoor fireplace and offers a really spectacular view of the Lower Mainland and Mount Baker. There is also a private patio on the top floor for the master bedroom.

How much does a home like this cost? Not as much as I thought. The homes at the Estates start at $2.35 million. My main problem with it is I’ll be living in suburbia and away from the action of the big city. It is true what they say about real estate – the further away you get from the city core, the cheaper houses get. You’ll never be able to get a house like this in Vancouver for anywhere near this price.

Told you so! A Dot Com Mogul will never need to leave his house in Port Moody, just like that SitePoint guy!

There’s no way i’ll live in Port Moody eventhough that house is simply amazing… I rather live in an apartment somewhere in Vancouver… that’s just me though ;)

PS. What camera are you using to take those pics? Those are nice crisp pictures!

John Chow April 23, 2006 at 9:51 am

The camera is a Canon SD300.

Reminds me of all those lottery homes the hospitals give away… Too bad they are always in suburban hell!

John, I don’t approve of you posting my house pictures on your blog. Even though I’m kind of a big deal, I still cherish my privacy.

Your camera may be an SD300, but those pics were taken with one of these babies ;)

Ya but the bottom pic was done with the SD300. :)

Vik – So you’re willing to admit that you live in Port Moody?
