Chris Voss and John Chow on Automating Social Media

written by John Chow on June 7, 2012

Big Idea Mastermind

Most of the time, when you see the weekly Dot Com Pho video, you see us having fun and playing around. However, there are serious decisions and strategy sessions going on as well. They just never make it into the video…Until now.

Oscar Gonzalez had his piece of junk Android phone running when Chris Voss and I were having a talk about why social media should be automated. This goes against the recommendation of all the so-call social media experts, who feel social media should be personal and never automated. Then again, they don’t have 80,000 Twitter followers or 22,000 Likes on Facebook.

To find out why Chris and I feel that you should automate your social media, watch the video below.

Thanks for the video.
That’s a whole new opinion for me. I was in BlogWorld NY in the last few days and almost all speakers recommend us to stop automating on social media. I’m a little confused right now.

Those speakers don’t make $40K a month. :P

John… you can probably pull this off when you make $40k / month… not when you are starting out.

As a matter of fact, I’m one of the speakers along with quite a few others (Chris Brogan, Robert Scoble, etc) who make a good living while actually being active regularly on Social Media.

Sure you’re active. So am I. But you also use tools to help you automate social media as well. :P

What do you mean by automate social media? I didn’t get you!

Abdul June 8, 2012 at 2:34 am

I agree with Syed over here, it is only doable when you already have a major following otherwise many of us people who’re trying to build a following on social media would only end up getting flamed by followers and fans for automation. :P

Well all I can say this explains a lot to me. Automation on a high end targeted audience makes sense. So why not build an automated saas system that allows you to like your Facebook comments as well as auto comments on Facebook and twitter with a link to your site as well as a thank you for commenting, your comment has been acknowledge and your comment will be shortly reviewed by myself and a signature that way your building raports with your users otherwise you will get followers who will get bored of not having a response and this will build up more traffic in a sense. Any way from experien e I feel this is important let me knw your thoughts?
