Christmas Gift from Google

written by John Chow on December 26, 2007

Even though I’m on Google’s naughty list, they were still nice enough to send me a Christmas gift. I guess they realized that no matter how evil I am, I still make them a lot of money and I’m sure they would hate to see that business go to Yahoo.

You can see what Google sent me in the video below. I have to admit, this year’s present is much better than last year’s gift. I don’t even know where that thing is anymore.

Did Google send you a Christmas gift?

Yep, got that from Google too. I still liked Yahoo’s present better this year!

Gary R. Hess December 26, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Yahoo gave a present?

What was it?

1 Million in 365 Days December 26, 2007 at 3:04 pm

It’s a cool keyboard. I wonder who would they hire to come up with all these Christmas ideas?

mahdi yusuf December 26, 2007 at 12:53 pm

well..

Turk Hit Box December 27, 2007 at 2:12 am

My girlfriend is actually looking for a business card holder. I would love to have that as a present :)

DeboHobo December 27, 2007 at 9:40 am

I would like to win the Google Business Card holder. Please pick me to win!

Steve Robbo December 27, 2007 at 12:49 pm

I’m up for it, if you can send to the UK.

Thanks John.

Tom December 26, 2007 at 12:15 pm

What are the earning’s required for a gift from google? Anyone care to give an estimate?

Zac Johnson December 26, 2007 at 7:06 pm

Not too much, I got the gift this year and earned/spent mid range 5 figures with Adsense/Adwords.

Etienne Teo December 26, 2007 at 11:49 pm

I got no gift, i guess sending the item to me is expensive after all.

SEO Optimization December 27, 2007 at 9:15 am

Well if you are making money to them they will most likely want to send you a gift.

JoeTech.com December 27, 2007 at 10:29 am

I didn’t get anything this year after pulling in $4,000 with Adsense, but last year, I got the digital photo frame after pulling in $15,000+, so I imagine the minimum is between $4,000 and $15,000.

Nicholas James December 27, 2007 at 11:18 am

I heard its $10,000

Q at $1 Million to My Name December 26, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Zac Johnson December 26, 2007 at 7:07 pm

when’s the moneyreign shirt going to get some airtime?

Stephen Glauser December 26, 2007 at 12:28 pm

That’s a pretty sweet gift. The box looked so cheap at first, that I thought all they sent you was a bunch of corrugated cardboard glued together. Awesome.

Bob Buskirk December 26, 2007 at 12:32 pm

I wanna win that!

Jack December 26, 2007 at 12:37 pm

Can always use more crap for my wallet.

Matthew December 26, 2007 at 12:40 pm

Interesting video… All I want from google is my check soon! :)

Affiliate Confession December 26, 2007 at 12:43 pm

Google sort of sent me a Christmas gift. My Adsense check and CJ check both arrived today. That’s the first time ever on the same day. It’s not at your level John, but they were for over $2,000 combined.

Pam Hoffman December 26, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Heck, I’d take that!

Oh, count me in on the giveaway John!

Google is still holding my money – I have yet to reach their initial threshold to cut a check (well, paypal me).

Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

KC December 26, 2007 at 1:12 pm

Cool gift! Enter me in the draw please!

Sly from Slyvisions.com December 26, 2007 at 1:16 pm

Haha. I like how you say “just bite this piece off put it on my wallet… and throw this big thing away” when talking about the card. Throw away a gift???

But yeah, I like how they have a hidden flash drive in that card. If I had that, I would keep the whole thing. :P

Mubin December 26, 2007 at 1:18 pm

reply now…

Spencer December 26, 2007 at 1:19 pm

Wee! Count me in on the Google flash drive!

Anthony December 26, 2007 at 1:20 pm

I wouldn’t mind having that! Count me in.

George Burke December 26, 2007 at 1:24 pm

I am really kind of jealous. I use google.com and they didn’t send me a christmas present. Then again, I only started two months ago and I have only made $12 to date. I am so poor. I am going to rename my site to destituteblogger.com. It is a good thing that I still have my job. I wouldn’t be able to eat until seven months later. It is going to take me forever to reach $100. Well I am starting with clickbank and commission junction. Maybe times will get better. Movie Blog I also just learned this link thing. Hooray for me. Sorry, John now I’m playing at least this post is pretty far down the list. I think I am going to be comment thrity five.

Mario Andrade December 26, 2007 at 1:24 pm

Oh you lucky Chow.
Google never sends me presents… Count me in on the “lottery”

Jamie Harrop December 26, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Another competition?! Nice! :D Count me in. Thanks John!

lisa coultrup ( kystorms) December 26, 2007 at 1:25 pm

wow, that is really cool. My goal is to be on their gift list for next christmas!!!

Paul December 26, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Hi John, seasons greetings from the UK!

Shaun Carter December 26, 2007 at 1:26 pm

I’ll jump in the contest for this… nice shoemoney shirt John!

George Burke December 26, 2007 at 1:27 pm

Holy @$%#, how did you do that christmas present thing. Where it link to the macaroni grill John, write your next post on how you did that please. and my link actually works. Two amazing feats. John I hope I don’t seem like an idiot but I am impressed.

carl December 26, 2007 at 1:28 pm

I am in.

Did I win?

Jacob December 26, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Looks like a much better gift than last year. I wouldn’t mind winning it. :P

FKI December 26, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Hmm.. How much do you need to make to “qualify”? I mean I’m a 5-figure Google earner.. do you need to be 6-figures?

Grr… I wonder what they send to those that earn 7-figures annually? A new car?

Market Matador December 26, 2007 at 1:31 pm

That’s a really awesome gift and I’d love to have it.

But I thought you and Google weren’t on good terms?

bob December 26, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Looks like a pretty cool christmas gift.
John, I am in!
Btw, how to get Google to send you Christmas present?

5 facts of the day December 26, 2007 at 1:35 pm

i want to win!

MeNo December 26, 2007 at 1:35 pm

I haven’t got one :(
But I haven’t got a $30000/month income either. Actually, AdSense has brought me so far ~$0.0.
So I’d like to have that, but giving me the thing would be like giving it to a third-world blogger, a really Angelina Jolie-like thing to do. So I really hope you give it to me, and my ego really hopes you don’t.
You decide. Cheers.

bob December 26, 2007 at 1:36 pm

What a cool christmas present!
John, I am in!

BTW, how to get Google to sent you christmas present?

Boris December 26, 2007 at 1:38 pm

Since I did not make the 500k$ this time, I have to win it, if I want it. And I want it ;)

Best Wishes for 2008 everbody!

Wow  , 50 comments in less than 46 min of this post. Guess the flash card from google is in hot demand.

Jamie December 26, 2007 at 1:53 pm

Might as well reply, since John told me to ‘reply now’. I’m just following orders.

Richard Bizick December 26, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Luck you John!

I’m up for getting that Google Flash drive. Definately will come in handy during my last semester at college.

Juha Ylitalo December 26, 2007 at 1:58 pm

It will still take a while, before I am going to get into Google’s Christmas gift lists …
Not really sure, what I would do with it, but if you don’t want it, I am sure I can think something. :)

Leonardo Vergani December 26, 2007 at 1:59 pm

I want one too!

James Wilcox December 26, 2007 at 2:07 pm

That’s pretty cool of Google to do that. Of course, they realize giving something away to someone like John Chow means you get their name viewed a few thousand times. I’ll take that off your hands for you :)

Ali December 26, 2007 at 2:15 pm

Hey John,
this is the first time i comment on your blog, (I’m a regular reader)
actually it’s for that tiny gift you shown there,

Tell you what, I’ll let you know, when I’ll get my own from google by blogging,
Getting back to you soon,
Ali

Hi John
As usual yet another interesting blog post. You seem to be throwing them out dime a dozen. I don’t know where you get all the nice inspiration, but it’s always interesting to read.
I won’t hide the fact that I think that gift was rather smart. What the heck. I might soon do a review of your nice site. Not to bribe you into winning, ’cause I do realize postage outside the States could ruin your budget… :-D

Happy New Year everyone. :-)

Tyson December 26, 2007 at 2:40 pm

I would like the Google Gift, please.

Blogging Experiment December 26, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Nelson December 26, 2007 at 3:02 pm

It’s really a nice gift. I want that

David Dunn December 26, 2007 at 3:03 pm

Jim December 26, 2007 at 3:34 pm

i want to learn how to do what you do – this is fascinating – i got enough passion about enough subjects to manage a blog the right way – but…

it’s a question of learning what you bloggers already know and putting it to use before our 50th wedding anniversary (we just had our 5th 12/20).

anyway john chow – make a deal with you – send me the drive, and i’ll return it to you in the future. it will stand as inspiration to give this new project a valiant effort.

if things go well – i’d be delighted to hand it over in person (thus proving my success and hard work)

merry Christmas to you and your family – great santa picture (however i think our son was even more terrified then your daughter)

Todd Austin December 26, 2007 at 3:38 pm

I’ll take it off your hands John!

Ben December 26, 2007 at 3:38 pm

Man, I wonder what exactly I have to do throughout the next year to get one of those… Other then spend money, of course.

JoeTech.com December 26, 2007 at 3:40 pm

I’d like to win it. Google didn’t send me anything this year.

Nice Shirt!

Alan Johnson December 26, 2007 at 5:38 pm

Pretty thoughtful gift and yes, aside from that card being a little to thick I’d say everywhing was done in pretty good taste. Even for large companies such as Google, a little gesture every now and then does pay off.

Alan Johnson

PS: I’ll have to pass on the business card holder, I’m sure some other readers will find it useful though :)

Stuart December 26, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Ok, I got one of these for christmas as well and I did exactly what you were thinking of John – “bite this little bit off and put it in my wallet”. Unfortunately there were wires in the hinges of the little section into the main part of the card and I completely stuffed it. Oh well the card holder is the nicest part of the present and has replaced my worn out wallet!

Snownation December 26, 2007 at 5:44 pm

I will take that belated Christmas gift!

Jehan December 26, 2007 at 5:47 pm

Hey there John!
Heck, you wanna break the flash drive from the card? That would make it too small eh? Easier to lose.
By the way, Count Me In!

josh December 26, 2007 at 6:05 pm

nice gift from google john grats!

jmarzo December 26, 2007 at 6:11 pm

It would be really nice if I had one of those gifts from big companies. I bet you have to be a premium member to have one of those. Since I don’t have that kind of presence, I wish there’s a chance for me to get it. Nice gift. Congratulations John.

ATV Style December 26, 2007 at 6:12 pm

It’s nice of google to send gifts, but I bet theres a spike on eBay for people re-gifting them.

Whats with the Shoemoney shirt? I don’t know if you’ve noticed but Shoemoney has had his traffic stats (Alexa) fall by almost 60% since the start of the year and since you ran your feed competition with him both of your stats are almost identical in pattern and both headed downwards.

You are who you associate with. You’re both still behemoths but your share is shrinking fast, time for another stunt imo!

Greg Stratz December 26, 2007 at 6:13 pm

h,,, been getting checks for 5 months straight now.. I was hoping they would send me a gift but no such luck. Though the mail might be late. Any who maybe next year.

Etienne Teo December 27, 2007 at 5:19 am

How long with it take for them to send a present?

Doug December 27, 2007 at 9:20 am

In the past Google sent presents to Adsense and Adword users… so you would get 2 identical gifts. This year they only sent gifts to people who spend money with Adwords, and just a card to Adsense users that earned a significant amount of money. I guess they are thinking they already give you money via Adsense, so they don’t need to give you a present as well.

johnCard December 26, 2007 at 6:22 pm

All of us here want to learn a trick or two from you on how to make real big bucks online  so that we all can receive a Christmas gift from Google by next year.
Wouldn’t it be better than you having a luck balloting to give your precious Google card holder…

andy December 26, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Gotta say mate that is one the best marketing ideas you have done. The traffic you will drive (and assoicated ad revenue) from this giveaway will make this a very profitable gift. Great stuff….I should use this idea for the christmas gifts I don’t want.

Cheers,
Andy

John -
When using video to demonstrate a product, please don’t flip it around and over repeatedly. I thought I was going to be sick waiting for the box to settle down. I’d love a chance at the Google gift, though, so count me in.

Mr. Rajawang December 27, 2007 at 12:36 am

I want it too! Count me in. BTW, nice videos since you got the cam john.

SEO Rob December 27, 2007 at 12:40 am

Darron Beetge December 27, 2007 at 12:45 am

I didn’t get anything from Google, not even a card
Must be because my site only nets them about $10 a month. Maybe next year I will be pushing $xx,xxx and I may get something from the mighty “G”.

William Montanaro December 27, 2007 at 2:32 am

I wonder what the requirements are to be eligible for a google gift, I’m also thinking they only send it to the US area, I don’t know anyone from the UK who has received one.

ONwebCHECK December 27, 2007 at 2:34 am

lol @ Google – I would kick it away – marry Christmas to you!

silvino December 27, 2007 at 2:36 am

Samuel December 27, 2007 at 3:09 am

I’d absolutely love that for college!

My last one broke and is currently NOT WORKING, and amazingly, trying to send things by email all the time just doesn’t work.

Plus it looks mega cool!

Eli December 27, 2007 at 3:23 am

Happy Holidays to you John!

Nic December 27, 2007 at 3:56 am

My misery is now over….

I also received one of those nice boxes complete with card from Google, however when i opened the box there was nothing inside…. boo hooo.
I have been wondering for over a week now what was stolen in the mail. Now I know what i am missing out on.

You are right it does look better than last year, I just wish I had actually received it.

Benny Ong December 27, 2007 at 4:04 am

My wallet is big enough and can keep it in there anytime. Please include me in the draw that you wish to send the gift to. Why not make your own Johnchow.com merchandise and give them away. I am pretty sure it will worth more than Google’s imprint on it. =) Cheers….

MillionDollarJourney December 27, 2007 at 4:49 am

Count me in! Great prize!

AnimeMagazin December 27, 2007 at 4:49 am

waigs December 27, 2007 at 6:33 am

I wish I got something from google

Bubba December 27, 2007 at 6:45 am

I’d love it if my wife was fortunate enough to receive this cool gift. I’m 4 months into my internet marketing career, taking a chance and getting ready to quit the J. O. B.. My wife doesn’t understand the revolution that is going on and could use some encouragement from a successful internet guru like yourself John.

On the other hand, when I tell her that to qualify for this gift from Google next year I’ll have to do at least 6 figures with them, she’s going to say “if you have to do 6 figures for this gift, how the heck much money are you going to have to make online before we can buy a new vehicle?!”

So, I would give it to one of our neighbourhood schools. That’s where I donate my out-of-date computers.

Darn, I’d really love that logo though!

Deron Sizemore December 27, 2007 at 6:46 am

Pretty nifty I must say! I’d love to win it. Count me in the drawing.

Simon Rodney December 27, 2007 at 7:06 am

ArahMan7 December 27, 2007 at 7:46 am

For now, Google has yet to send me anything, but give me six months from now I’m sure (I guaranteed) Google will take notice of my blog and will sent me a nice little present at the end of 2008!

(Confidently) Mark my words, Mr. John Chow.

Thinkreferrals December 27, 2007 at 8:55 am

Since our Christmas included having our car stolen 6 days before Christmas I sure could use some Cheering up. A Google Flash drive would help.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Martin December 27, 2007 at 8:57 am

Nice. How much do you have to earn/spend for you to get that gift from google?

Doug December 27, 2007 at 9:12 am

Dear Santa John,

All I want for Christmas this year is a Google Flashdrive. As you know… I have been a very good boy. I could go on and on about myself… like feeding the homeless, walking old ladies across the street, etc… but I am sure you already know all about my selfless acts.

Merry Christmas to One and All,

Doug

silvino December 27, 2007 at 9:19 am

IngaOz December 27, 2007 at 11:36 am

Faisal December 27, 2007 at 11:42 am

Oh my! what a cool gift from google! you’ve been an inspiration to me John. I have started a site and hope I could be like you one day. You can see my webiste if you click on my name. One more thing, I am gonna receive my first adsense payment the end of this month! woo! It would be nice if I get that google gift too…hehe..you know what I’m talking about. ciao

Howard December 27, 2007 at 11:57 am

Wait, you said the little connector will snap off the rest of the card, does that mean all the flash space is stored on that tiny piece? Or did I misunderstanding something…

Graham Rowlands December 27, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Nice of you to give back to the readers John!

Nacho de Ramon December 27, 2007 at 12:41 pm

I am IN

Hannes Johnson December 27, 2007 at 12:51 pm

Nope, I didn’t get anything from Google – I guess I’ll have to spend more on AdWords and/or earn more through AdSense ;)

But it’s a cool gift – very nice of you to give it away :)

Patrick December 27, 2007 at 1:24 pm

I’ll take it. Why not I can use it.

BlogsTheme.com December 27, 2007 at 2:38 pm

Brandie December 27, 2007 at 4:06 pm

I didn’t get a present from google this year, but I just started out blogging… so that’s no big suprise lol. Wow a 2GB? That’s come in handy! Especially where I’m just starting out! Ah, anyway… congrats to whoever wins it! :) I don’t ever win anything, so I’m going ahead and congratulating the lucky person! :)

wordvixen December 27, 2007 at 4:14 pm

I’m so loving that flash drive- but that’s probably because I like normal things done in unique ways. Seriously, if it was just a normal drive with Google printed on it, it wouldn’t be half as cool. Nice business card holder too.

Free Blog Templates December 27, 2007 at 4:30 pm

Last year I got a Google blanket but this year I got nothing. Guess I need to start spending more money with them again! I’d love to win your Google gift John!
