Computex Blast From The Past

written by John Chow on May 27, 2007

How one lazy bum made $176,697.50

I’ll be heading to Taipei next week for the yearly Computex trade show. Of all the trade shows I attend, Computex is by far the most fun. To give you an idea on what kind of fun one can except at such an event, I thought it would be cool to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the events from last year’s Computex. For most of you, this will be completely new because the blog wasn’t big time back then. Also, I highly doubt many new readers visit the archives so doing these “blast from the past” posts is a neat way to create new content.

Are We In A Plane Or The Taipei 101?

Taipei is home to the world’s tallest building. This photo was taken from the 84th floor during a reception with Intel. The Taipei 101 got its name, not just because it has 101 floors, but because it required 101% effort to build it.

Taipei 101

Stephen The Party Animal

This will be Stephen Fung’s second year at Computex. Hopefully, he’ll be able to pace his drinking this year. Otherwise, he may end up dancing on the bar with some guy again.

The Pre-Computex Bash

Big drink

The Pre-Computex Bash will be held on June 4th. If you run a tech site and want to hang out with other crazy tech site owners, give me a shout and I’ll tell you the time and location.

Cheers for drinking Hoegaarden, I didn't expect to see you guys dirnking something Dutch at all, props. I must say you sing pretty well too ;)

Man, they still look good. And so does that beer.

Those are some fancy-looking drinks. You know, my old man actually invented the first drink like that, the B-52, when he was head bartender at this place called Maxwell's Plum in either the late 1970's or early 1980's.

Hey....send me a beer you party animal.

that so looks like a plane.. you look so high... well i guess we could say that about all those pictures..

At first I thought that picture was taken from a plane landing/taking off, too.

This is the real JC...is your wife going? LOL
John seems like owning a tech site= ballers life..so how should one go about it? I mean go about becoming a baller:D

I won´t go this year :(
But my partner Metro will be there, unfortunately he does not drink

Have a good one guys!

Hi, John Chow

I am a Taiwanese reader now living in LA. Influenced by you, I also started my own agloco a few days ago and made a blog targeting traditional chinese reader. I am glad I found your site and it's great to see you doing so well !!!

Wish you a good trip to TW and have a lot of fun ~

Man, I just want to be able to go to Taipei or travel freely and here John gets to travel wherever he wants when he wants (or so it seems) lol

yep, when you've got the money
you can do pretty much everything you wish

I guess the definition of 'everything' expands with the more money you have right?

hey, John didn't your wife get ticked for dancing with another woman? Lolz

Dirty... that's just dirty. Why you gotta throw such a low blow? haha

Take a break from life

It's not dirty, I didn't mean anything I'm just saying. If my wife danced with another guy then I would blow.

Because...they weren't girls...

Even if she did, I'm pretty sure they've kissed and made up by now LOL.

John dancing, singing, and setting off smoke effects -- quite the talented dot com mogul you are!!!

@Alex::Lol yeah we all are looking for some donation

The big drink picture is great.

What is it? Beer? Looks like, beer!

I'm pretty sure its just water.

Taipei towers for the win!

John, there are lots of great restaurants in Taipei! PLEASE review at least one of them!

Kenneth

Does Outback Steakhouse or Ruby Tuesdays count?

Yes I would like to see one too. It's been awhile since we've seen a fancy dinner on here.

LOL, looks like good times. Nice singing and dancing John! And the Smokin' one was hilarious. You weren't expecting that!

the videos were hilarious, thanks for the good laugh, especially the smokin' one, more please.

this is hilarious !!

they should have a plugin for buy me a ticket to computex instead of buying a beer

Somebody buy me a beeer please  hahah Check those glasses, reminds me days of college when we used to bash out. Looks like i need to call my old buddies and ask them to come down this time and have some beer bash

I'm sure there will be more pictures of John disrespecting scooters and chucking garbage at them. You may think that John has an unlimited supply of evil, but that's definitely not the case Evil eventually wipes itself out

The video with the smoke
It`s hilarious!!

You guys are having too much fun - way to go! Hopefully one day I'll make enough money to afford to come and take time off!

You need to get someone else to pay for your travel. Last year I paid for my flight. This year, I'm fully sponsored

Free is the only way to travel ;)

The company I work for is going. I asked to tag along but I have too many projects that my hands are in so I can't be missed.

I don't know if we're a vendor this year because I know we weren't last year.

Not if you need tax write offs :)

Lucky you.. will they pay for me as well?

the dancing and singing video is great loool

I think you should put a 'warning' notice before that video of you dancing and singing!

I would be sick up that high...the picture made me nauseous

That picture of John with his baby at the CN Tower gave me vertigo; I don't think I could look down from the Taipei 101 either. :???: Awesome view, though, that I have to admit.

i saw that picture

glass floor

license to thrill

i'd hate it though

i couldn't believe, he stood on it with his daughter in hand

too bad I will not be in Taipei otherwise I wil show you around my home country! For free!

home country? taiwan?

Lol didn't know you could get Hoegaarden beer in Taiwan.

I thought this was supposed to be titled "Stephen Fung Dances With Sweaty Man".
