Contests Happening In The Community

written by John Chow on March 4, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

I just realized that I Love Blog is not the only one hosting a blog contest. It was not very neighborly of me to not post other community members that are hosting blog contests as well. This is something I need to correct right now. Here’s a bunch of John Chow dot Com community members’ contests.

K-Rad.HK – Win any video game you want contest. Carl is looking for a new name for his online store and needs your help. The person who gives him the best name will win any video game that HKToyz sells.

Net Business Blog – NBB is giving away a copy of WoW with account to their 1337th commenter. Matt won’t tell how many comments are on the blog right now, but says the 1337th comment will be hit before the end of next week.

Career Ramblings – They held a banner contest but it’s over now. However, you can find out who won.

Shawn Knight – Due to the lack of interest thus far, Shawn has decided to extend the deadline for getting your entry in on giveaway number two. What’s the prize? Free Money! $50.00 to one lucky winner via Paypal.

BlueFur.com – Post a review of the Massive Technology Show and you could win a full access pass to the show ($149 value). This would be of interest if you live in Vancouver or plan to be in Vancouver on March 28, which is the day of the show.

Productive Strategies – Review this blog you could win a brand new iPod. I already posted about this in my Productive Strategies iPod Contest post but an extra plug never hurts.

The Perks Of Membership

This is just one more reason why you should be part of the John Chow dot Com community. I give posting preference to top commentators and community members. They support me so I support them.

If you have a contest going and I didn’t post it, I’m sorry. I didn’t know about it. Send me an email and I’ll try to get it up on the next community post.

Thanks for the plug :D

Matt Coddington March 4, 2007 at 9:23 am

Thanks, John. Whether you like it or not you just became slightly less evil in my book!

Dan1el March 4, 2007 at 7:35 pm

Don’t be fooled, he still wants to take over the internet. :)

Marc March 5, 2007 at 6:34 am

There are tons of evil motives behind this Matt. You just need to look for them. It’s just very helpful that John’s evil happens to help his evil followers often enough (e.g. Technorati boost)

Jane May March 4, 2007 at 9:45 am

There’s that “Humanitarian” we have all come to know and love. Thanks John, I know it takes some effort to have to go back and include others so it’s very much appreciated.

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 9:57 am

I’d love to send you info on my contest but my host is messing around my server and my site’s down

Anyway, speaking of top commentators, why did the counter reset again?!?

Jane May March 4, 2007 at 10:00 am

I was wondering what was going on with your site, I tried to go to it a couple of times…maybe got dugg???

John, thanks for the updates on these contests, I was completely unaware for some of them…I already singned up for two!!

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 11:25 am

Thanks Jane, It should be up now!

derrich March 4, 2007 at 8:06 pm

You’ve got some work to do to get back up to #1, Saman. You should come over to my blog. All you need is 3 comments, and you’ll be #1.

Nomar March 4, 2007 at 10:01 am

Great contests, thanks for sharing !!

Ryan March 4, 2007 at 10:03 am

Be careful with NBB’s contest … WoW is addictive, and you’ll never be the same again! If I win I think I’ll donate it to John.

Matt Coddington March 4, 2007 at 10:27 am

lol John would never make it past level 10. He’d be too entertained running around 1-shotting bunnie rabbits all day.

Ryan March 4, 2007 at 11:47 am

Oh no, evil john  would make it to the top real quick and go around killing everything… then eat it … that’s what evil John does.

Dan1el March 4, 2007 at 6:40 pm

WOW ruins lives :)

My New Choice March 4, 2007 at 10:51 am

Thanks for taking the time to share highlights from your community members. I’ve also jumped in on some of the contests as I was not aware of them before.

ilker March 4, 2007 at 11:10 am

Good stuff John.. I will stick my nose in any of those contests where my mind applies.

BTW, do you really need that $50 from Shawn Knight? I thought you were already rich

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 11:27 am

Yeah right! Let some of us have a chance!

But, if you did, then you wouldn’t get any Evil Points either….

John Chow March 4, 2007 at 2:05 pm

450 is $50!

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 3:08 pm

Or $50 is $50!

Saman = +1 :twisted: point

Sorry, please don’t shoot me with your laser eyes!

Jon March 4, 2007 at 11:22 am

Man sometimes I wish I lived in Vancouver. Anyone know where I can find info about events like the Massive Technology show in Toronto?

oscarsito March 4, 2007 at 11:48 am

ooh lots of contests, thanks for the heads up!

Stuart March 4, 2007 at 12:09 pm

This is a good idea man.

Michael March 4, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I love contests, free stuff rocks!

Michael

Jennifer Lynn March 4, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Very cool. Thanks for the heads up on these, John. I live in a proverbial cave and would’ve missed out otherwise.

=^..^=

ilker March 4, 2007 at 5:54 pm

I’m running a contest as well!

lyndonmaxewell March 4, 2007 at 6:18 pm

That’s nice. People are usually attracted to games & prizes. Everyone just want to have fun too in the meantime!

Shawn Knight March 4, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Cool, thanks for the posting and welcome all John Chow readers!

Stuart March 4, 2007 at 1:22 pm

Your welcome :) I entered your contest.

MasterSparky March 4, 2007 at 2:52 pm

I signed up for 2. Thanks John.

David March 4, 2007 at 2:54 pm

Cool…me likes contests…someday soon I hope I will have enough traffic to run my own contest.

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 3:09 pm

Maybe that is your ticket to getting more traffic!

Jez March 4, 2007 at 11:50 pm

Yeah its a really good idea, fairly easy to plug I should imagine

Marc March 5, 2007 at 6:38 am

Yes it’s sort of a chicken and egg scenario. Contests are great for exposure, but you need to get the word out. Though contests that give away free stuff usually aren’t too hard to promote. The trick is getting anyone to remain interested in your blog post-contest…

ilker March 4, 2007 at 3:20 pm

Btw, thanks for these John.. I did 3 of them and will do the other 2 when I have more time!

Jeff Kee March 4, 2007 at 8:22 pm

I found the bluefur.com contest from before, where they were giving out a domain, through John’s site and I got one.

Gdog March 4, 2007 at 5:12 pm

Nice post…I love contests.

lyndonmaxewell March 4, 2007 at 6:19 pm

Who doesn’t? Me too!

Jeff Kee March 4, 2007 at 8:22 pm

I’m competitive as hell haha

Dan1el March 4, 2007 at 8:41 pm

I love contests only when I win :)

lyndonmaxewell March 4, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Who doesn’t love to win anyway? It is all in the name of fun!

Sean March 4, 2007 at 7:05 pm

Those sound like some great contests!

Thanks!

derrich March 4, 2007 at 8:05 pm

I’m going to win at least 3 of these. Just a prediction.

lyndonmaxewell March 4, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Gosh, that is going to take some work over the week!

Jeff Kee March 4, 2007 at 8:21 pm

Eh. My poll for who should do the OhMiBod review doesn’t count as a contest I guess..

Jane’s winning by the way.

Jez March 4, 2007 at 11:49 pm

Some cool competitions there, may have a go at a couple of them, good way to promote the sites, especially as you have linked to them!

zaki March 5, 2007 at 3:32 am

WOW….Never thought there are a lots of contest out there….!!! Need to check out few…Cannot participate in all….No time and No expertise….

lyndonmaxewell March 5, 2007 at 4:32 am

Time is a factor. For expertise, not all requires very high level. Some boils down to simple review me contests which anyone can have a hand in.

Allan March 5, 2007 at 3:37 am

I think a lot of contests do not get much coverage and thats why so many go by unseen.

I am currently running a contest blog your socks off which ends 10th March. I was surprised how little interset people have had entering it.
