Dinner with Yaro Starak

written by John Chow on May 7, 2008

Last night, Sarah and I join Yaro Starak at Red Robin on world famous Robson Street for an Entrepreneurs-Journey blogger meet up. It was great to finally meet Yaro and some of his readers face to face. Being in the same niche, it wasn’t too surprising that his readers and my readers are sometimes the same person. A total of 11 people attended the meet up.

Red Robin is known for their “gourmet” burgers and wraps. Calling their burgers gourmet is an insult. It’s barely one notch above McDonald’s and three times the price. However, their fries are pretty tasty and it’s damn big! Here are some photos from the event.

Your next chance to meet Yaro in person will be at this Saturday’s Dot Com Pho. If the RSVP I’ve received are any indication, the next Dot Com Pho is going to be our biggest ever. See you there!

Looks, like a good time. Entrepreneurs-Journey is a great blog, in fact it was the first ever make money online blog I subscribed too. Everyone should definitely consider subscribing to his blog

Terra Andersen May 7, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Agreed! Yaro is the MAN! And I do agree about Red Robin too… NOT gourmet at all.

Kevin May 7, 2008 at 11:40 am

Those foods look so del.icio.us

Shawn Knight May 7, 2008 at 12:20 pm

JOKES! heh

Flimjo May 7, 2008 at 11:53 am

Whether they’re gourmet or not, those burgers actually look like good grub. The fries certainly look good, too. I’ve heard about the Red Robin, but there aren’t any where I live so I can’t test the food.

Douglas May 7, 2008 at 11:54 am

John: It was good to chat with you and Sarah, and share the world’s biggest fries. I will email you that restaurant info we talked about.

Cheers, Douglas

You should come to NY to have one of those blogger meetings. I’d love to attend to one, but CA is so far away. I’m thinking to attend to F1 Grand Prix in Canada this year, maybe I’ll drop by where you guys meet.

I don’t like Red Robin’s any more. Their service is a joke, their food has been poor.

The burgers aren’t bad but the local pubs are better. John you should of said it was Yaro’s birthday so that that Red Robin’s staff would of sang that crappy birthday song that embarrasses anyone who is within a 10 foot radius of you.

Stephen May 8, 2008 at 12:37 am

The last time I went into a Red Robin, I walked out because no one wanted to give us a table. Lame!

Shawn Knight May 7, 2008 at 12:15 pm

Those wraps look fantastic and WOW, I have never seen fries that large! I think there is a Red Robin in Memphis – I will have to try it out sometime soon.

Mike Huang May 7, 2008 at 12:26 pm

The world’s greatest entrepreneurs sitting in one table. How I wish I was in Canada now :)

-Mike

Sha May 7, 2008 at 1:00 pm

Holy cholesterol, Batman! The wraps do look like they might’ve been good though.

Michael Kwan May 7, 2008 at 2:18 pm

So this is how you plan on dropping the pounds before Computex?

On a side note, I think that’s the same Voodoo shirt you wore at pho last week and in the video with the Market Leverage stuff?

John Chow May 7, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Voodoo gave me a bunch of shirt. Unfortunately, they all say the same thing.

Facebook Babes May 8, 2008 at 10:13 am

How about a contest where you give one away to one of your readers

Stephen May 8, 2008 at 2:55 pm

They also gave him a bunch of khaki pants…

“Voodoo shirt, Khaki pants, looking like a (fill in the blank)”

haha I hate high caloried foods.

Dave May 7, 2008 at 2:28 pm

You have to get the royal red robin burger

James Wilcox May 7, 2008 at 3:00 pm

I’ve never eating at Red Robin. Here we have Johnny Rocket’s which makes really good burgers (for a chain restaurant) but the best burgers in my town come from a place called Jack’s.

ssmilin.com May 7, 2008 at 3:30 pm

The food is terrible and the portions are so small. Cheers ssmilin.com

Paolo U May 7, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Is Yaro the guy with the long curly hair :?:

Joker May 7, 2008 at 11:27 pm

Hell no, I think Yaro is the other guy with Voodoo T-shirt.

Affiliate Confession May 7, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Wow John, that looks like the mushroom swiss cheeseburger of death there.

Conservatives and Normals May 7, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Hey John, you look like you found Jesus in that french fry. You should sell it on Ebay.

Clickusername May 7, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Is this Red Robin where Hooter’s used to be?

Jason Pedersen May 7, 2008 at 9:00 pm

I think Red Robin is pretty delicious. That Whiskey burger (bbq sauce and fried onion rings) is tough to beat.

Terry Tay May 7, 2008 at 9:17 pm

The burger looks pretty plain, but the wraps look pretty good.

So, what did all that brain power talk about during the eat fest?

~Terry

Kyle Klingler May 7, 2008 at 9:40 pm

That burger looks amazing.

Viden May 7, 2008 at 10:39 pm

You and Yaro is two of my best online gurus in blogosphere.

Joker May 7, 2008 at 11:24 pm

(From the French Fries picture…)

John Chow: Yaro, your dick is this short?

Yaro Starak: Yes

John Chow: No, wait, mine is shorter.

MoneyNing May 8, 2008 at 12:01 am

Sounds like fun. Maybe people in Southern California should host something too :)

Syed Balkhi May 8, 2008 at 1:38 am

Where is the future blogger ?? (Sally)….

broalex May 8, 2008 at 2:50 am

ClogMoney May 8, 2008 at 9:26 am

Wonder how long you would live eating that every day ;-)

DeboHobo May 8, 2008 at 10:44 am

Financial Jesus May 14, 2008 at 9:14 am

hmm at first glance his website entrepreneurs-journey.com seems to be about traveling and different foods, so it takes a little digging to get to the good stuff!

Abhishek Kumar May 25, 2008 at 11:26 am
