Do You Like The New John Chow dot Com Logo?

written by John Chow on May 27, 2010

A few people have noticed that my blog is spotting a new JC logo. I have some pretty sharp eye readers because the logo was barely up for an hour before the first comment came in. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I want to ask what you think of the new logo?

I actually had the new logo for quite awhile but just haven’t put it up on the blog until now. The first time the logo was shown was on the custom made John Chow dot Com poker table. What took me so long to put it up on the blog? Well, I just never got around to it.

Now that the new logo is up, I am really liking it. I think it’s time to turn the new logo into a John Chow dot Com T-shirt! Who wants one?

The new logo is quite better than the old one :) I LIKE it

College To Careers May 27, 2010 at 10:16 am

I like some aspects of it, such as the font style, but I wouldn’t say it was “quite better than the old one”

my 2 cents….

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog May 27, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Yes I am also advocating for old one …

Old logo got weight and representing your image as well.

Stocks on Wall Street May 30, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Yes agree with you ZK the old logo is better.

Oops May 31, 2010 at 2:31 am

Oops, the Kontera code is jacking your logo and underlining the words “dot com” right on top of it.

tweetfind May 27, 2010 at 12:15 am

New Logo looks clean. I think the darker blue is good, but the new Blue makes it look more professional. I also prefer the circle vs. the square.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog May 27, 2010 at 10:02 pm

That is not square … that is rectangle.

Its nice to see my 10th Standard’s study knowledge is working here …. :)

How to Speak Japanese May 27, 2010 at 12:25 am

IMHO the new logo doesn’t fit – the letters are not so easily visible as in the original version. Also I liked the globe behind the letters – implying you being a real mogul controling the world :)

College To Careers May 27, 2010 at 10:17 am

I’m also a big fan of the globe…having a worldly presence…

Mathew Day May 27, 2010 at 3:06 pm

I like the older one better. The globe and glossy blue worked.

Yes that one reflecting your effect on world’s blogger John.

So just change it.

VISHAL May 27, 2010 at 12:25 am

Nice one…I like it :)

Profit Addiction May 27, 2010 at 12:48 am

Yes, I noticed it the other day and I think it looks real clean!

K_Wasseem May 27, 2010 at 1:31 am

It looks better from me.
@JohnChow:
Cast in a poll, you’ll get a better metrics for the overall responses ;)

RichardGravydotcom May 27, 2010 at 1:54 am

Both nice but if I had to pick, I prefer the old one. Can’t say why, just personal preference I guess :-)

Social Bookmarking Service May 29, 2010 at 10:53 am

Yes that what I also thinks. Old one was much better compare to new one.

rayutube May 27, 2010 at 2:01 am

I like your new logo but prefer your old lettering.

Andrew May 27, 2010 at 2:38 am

I think the new one gives more emphasis to the brand with a better font and text positioning and a less strong image icon.

So I think it works. :-)

Free Picks May 27, 2010 at 2:42 am

Its good, but not prominent like the last one

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog May 29, 2010 at 8:58 pm

John maximum people are voting for old one.

jack May 27, 2010 at 3:06 am

Lol. You put text on the logo and linked it to a kontera ad?

That is the quintessential essence of john chow dot com – squeezing every last penny from every resource possible

P.S. like the old logo a lot better

Simon Bunker May 27, 2010 at 3:12 am

Hey John,
I much prefer the new logo. Its much cleaner and less heavy than the old one. Who designed it out of interest?
And yes I would love a John Chow T-shirt so that I can fly the flag in the UK!!! :-)

Mark May 27, 2010 at 3:32 am

I hate to say it, but I’m not a big fan of the new logo. The J and the C in the new logo just don’t look right. And when I go to the main page, the logo is different. It has Dot Com under it, but the text is cut off.

Yogesh Sarkar May 27, 2010 at 4:01 am

Somehow I don’t like it, the earlier logo was although too simple, but managed to easily convey that it was JC, while this one takes a while to do that.

Andrew May 27, 2010 at 5:26 am

I think the JC is what needed to be supressed and the new logo is displaying John’s name more strongly which is the brand. I forgot to emphasize this in my earlier comment.

p.s. John, please give my T-shirt to somebody in need of clothing somewhere in the world.

fas May 27, 2010 at 5:17 am

Can i get a microscope please?

Typhoon May 27, 2010 at 5:18 am

Both the logo look almost the same but one good thing about new one is that its colors are blending more properly with the blog theme.

Irish Garden Home May 27, 2010 at 5:59 am

“Well, I just never got around to it.” is the song of my life also ;-) I like the new logo, it has a cleaner look! What about changing your favicon also? SY

Eric | My 4-Hour Workweek May 27, 2010 at 6:41 am

I like the “JC” part of the new logo, however I like the rest of the text in the old logo.

Melvin May 27, 2010 at 6:49 am

obviously the new one is better as the old one is generic-looking BUT what stands out in the old logo is the global impact of making money from blogging as well as being able to make money everywhere (w/c is what John Chow is all about). The world logo is a powerful one for me because time and time again, big bloggers have proven that they can make money regardless of where they are.

d3so May 27, 2010 at 9:35 am

You completely contradicted your stance.
I never thought about the symbolism of the old logo; nice job.

Old logo FTW!

Net Age | Web Design May 27, 2010 at 7:22 am

You’ve freshened up your logo, without turning your back on the old one altogether. Evolution rather than revolution. It looks good and I like it. There is something oddly 3D about the JC that really tugs on the eyeballs…..

PPC Ian May 27, 2010 at 9:03 am

I very much agree with these points, especially because they are coming from a web design expert.

Smith May 27, 2010 at 8:10 am

I really love the new logo of your website, more simple. Congratulations for your new logo

BStearns May 27, 2010 at 8:53 am

I prefer this new logo. It looks sleeker. Awesome job on it.

PPC Ian May 27, 2010 at 8:58 am

I really like the new logo. It stays true to your roots as @JAQ says, while giving a modern sleek look. I’m a fan and would love to get my hands on s t-shirt!

Hour A Day Fitness May 27, 2010 at 9:21 am

Looks fresh and clean. Would help to move from John Chow the name to more of initials as a brand. Like you said in your posts about what you wish you would have done as far as not starting the site with your name.

d3so May 27, 2010 at 9:30 am

Based on what’s in front of me, I prefer the old logo because it’s design looks more innovative than the new one. The new logo can be improved by giving it the “glossy” look for a web 2.0 feel, ya feel me? The new logo looks as if it were from a decade ago.

Aside from all of that, I wouldn’t mind sporting a new shirt from you ;)

Internet Marketing Course May 27, 2010 at 10:26 am

Oh no way :P . I love the new one. To me it’s way more innovative. I think it looks much better without the gloss.

d3so May 27, 2010 at 11:17 am

We have our opinions. Do you mind explaining how the new logo looks “more innovative”?

Internet Marketing Course May 28, 2010 at 9:39 pm

Yeah, I think the new one is more clean and “fresh.” The old one, with the rounded rectangle, image behind it, and flat font on top looks very 2002ish to me.

College To Careers May 27, 2010 at 10:15 am

I think you would be better off finding a combination of both. I like the inclusion of the globe as you had before because its a global economy that you’re in and your visitors are from every part of the world.

Stocks on Wall Street May 27, 2010 at 10:21 am

Looks good to me John.

Internet Marketing Course May 27, 2010 at 10:24 am

I actually commented on this as soon as I saw it a few days ago, I love the new logo. It’s much better IMO :)

Bradley May 27, 2010 at 11:27 am

Like it! Clean lines, and a nice font!

Panic Attack Cures May 27, 2010 at 11:50 am

I think the logo looks cleaner and more professional. Also, change is always good. Keep your brand fresh.

Hoto May 27, 2010 at 12:19 pm

there isn´t a big change is it ? somehow i like the old one better.

Vincent Woon May 27, 2010 at 3:02 pm

I like the new logo. It has the slick look..And I would love to have a JC t-shirt….will be great for my T-Shirt Monday posts.

TYCP Magazine May 27, 2010 at 4:15 pm

I was wondering when you were going to make a post about this.

I prefer the new logo. I especially like how “JC” stands out & is more readable.

Jonny Hardwick May 27, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I am a regular reader John and I noticed as soon as I loaded the page about 5 minutes ago.

I was just about to comment saying I have seen this logo before on the photo of your custom poker table and then you mentioned it in your post :)

I love the new logo and prefer it vs the old logo by far. Looks a lot cleaner and more professional. Its also good to see a change in something that you see on a daily basis.

I would love a John Chow dot Com T-shirt!

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog May 27, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Honestly speaking I like old one because old one had some weight and showing your reputation to whole world.

New one is bit light in look and not that much impressive.

max May 27, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Looks great! Looks more Asian! I guess nothing wrong with that caz I am Asian. But really, I do want a T-shirt so I can wear it next time I do a video and promote your blog for FREE! :)

P.S. no really, i love free stuff…

Vince Cianci May 27, 2010 at 11:11 pm

Definately the old logo is better.

Somehow I can see the old one reappearing soon guys!

Steve e May 28, 2010 at 2:01 am

I easily would go with the old one.

New one Takes more time in identifying the JC when compared to the old. It does look cool but simple sticks. I like the the font on the right side of the new logo though. Combining the new right side and old left logo and some tinkering to make them same height would look great in my opinion.

Def the old one though

Addy Kho May 28, 2010 at 2:22 am

New one is better.. I like the log coming with slogan

d3so May 28, 2010 at 9:09 am

John, I think you should put up a poll.

engin May 28, 2010 at 6:06 pm

yeah its cool..

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog May 28, 2010 at 8:56 pm

So John … what do you think … you are keeping new one or we can expect old one is coming back.

Social Bookmarking Service May 29, 2010 at 10:49 am

Changes was in card but this new one is less impressive.

Can you show us what other options you have got so may be we can pick the right choice for you.

Irish Garden Home May 30, 2010 at 8:27 am

Why should he do this, in the end it is his blog and his logo! I am pretty sure John is able to pick the right choice for him himself, SY

denim jacket May 29, 2010 at 8:16 pm

I’d definitely be in the market for a JC shirt with the new logo!

Jay May 30, 2010 at 2:58 am

The new logo looks a lot nicer than the old one. It sort of has a ying-yang feel to it. Keep the new one.

Affiliate Marketing May 30, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Yup, way better.

It’s funny how one small change to a graphic can make a world of difference

Your new logo is fresh, but not a radical departure from the one people are used to. I like it, as it is smooth, simple and ultra clean. Who did the design work? And I’d love a T-shirt, please!

Karate Arlington TX June 15, 2010 at 10:11 pm

Like the new logo better!

jtGraphic: James Thompson June 22, 2010 at 11:16 pm

I think it’s better, but not ground breaking. Funny that readers noticed that, but don’t know when people guest post.
