Doing Some iMovie Magic
written by John Chow on April 23rd, 2008
Ever since getting my Flip Video, I’ve been using Apple iMovie a lot. The more I use iMovie, the more I like it. This program, which ships with every new Apple computer, blows Windows Movie Maker out of the water. The comparison isn’t even close.
Today, I decided to try a little iMovie magic with the help of Sally. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out how this little trick was performed. One thing for sure, I’ll never make it as a FX guy in Hollywood.

Sally is getting less judgmental as she grows up.
Reply to this commentI’ve noticed that too. Or it could be that she’s all done judging you.

Reply to this commentI think they went to the right
Reply to this commentYou are right, Windows Movie Maker cannot hold a candle to iMovie. I’m seriously considering getting a Mac.
Reply to this commentNeither Windows Movie Maker or iMovie are good applications for video editing. Spend about $100 for Premiere Elements and you’ll have a vastly superior application over those two. If you find that you really enjoy video making, you can upgrade to Premiere Pro. What can you upgrade from iMovie with no learning curve?
Reply to this commentEven better, download a cracked version somewhere and save yourself $100. That’d be way evil.

Reply to this commentI have to get one of those things!
Reply to this commentHey John, why not try to use a green screen as your next movie experiment?
Reply to this commentIt’s the David Copperfield of the blogging world. John, maybe you could figure out how to let Sally saw you in half, that would be a fun trick…
Reply to this commentI never tried creating a video before!
Reply to this commentI’ve used iMovie a couple times and it’s pretty fun. Movie maker isn’t as good but gets the job down for quick clips etc. Though out of the box I did find iMovie to be more functional than Movie maker and a bit easier to pick up.
Reply to this commentthe video looks good.
Reply to this commentLet me try imovie now.
Is Macbook Air better then Macbook Pro?
Reply to this commentHells no.
Reply to this commentNice work John! You should try doing a Star Trek beam out…
Reply to this commentMac’s are definately my favorite computer. I’ve never owned any other kind. iMovie drives me up the wall. Perhaps that is because I’ve been editing on Final Cut Pro since version 1.0. iMovie just leaves me frustrated.
If I was just starting out though iMovie would be awesome!
Heartwarming John, I enjoyed that.
Reply to this commentWell that was obviously done using two mirrors, some duct tape and a large magnet.

If you like to do effects in iMovie, you should check out the Slick effects from Gee Three.
Reply to this commentI love iMovie. I’ve been using it myself since January… as you said, it doesn’t even compare to Windows Movie Maker.
Reply to this commentI love that Sally has her own blog.
I don’t have a Mac, so I don’t have iMovie, but I keep hearing good things about it.
Reply to this commentLol…that was funny as hell.
Reply to this commentNow I am joulous, can you tell those Apple folks to send me a Mac too John? Lol…
John chow is a good boy….
Reply to this commentWhat kind of a daddy are you?
You should have at least posted the video on her site SallyChow.com and linked to it to give her the traffic. She is the star of the video, isn’t she?

Reply to this commentGraphics and video/photo editing isn’t my specialty either. Looks like you know enough to add your own personality to the videos though. That is all you need.
