Don’t Be Evil – Google’s Evil Master Plan

written by John Chow on March 23, 2007

Free Video Watch It Now

I got a good laugh out of this video. While it was based on facts from the book The Google Story by David A. Vise, I personally think the video was sponsored by Microsoft.

Very interesting video indeed. Makes some valid points, but I wonder about its veracity. In any event, one thing is for sure, Google will keep growing as long as internet exists. Who knows how far Google will go about privacy. :?:

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:41 am

Good points. I too, think this video is a little farfetched, but who knows…

Catmoves March 27, 2007 at 8:20 pm

 First thing I want to say is I don’t care for You Tube videos. I resent the bit by bit playing. Load the dang thing and then play it all at one time.
The clue to the humor is the statement that Google wants all information to be free to everyone. The punch line is: then Google can control it. The height of absurdity. You have to at least smile at this contradiction.
I also have trouble imagining the number of little men(women) wearing green eye shades, sitting in their little cells reading the 80 million pieces of email sent hourly around the world.
Google, I seem to remember, told the Homeland Insecurity gang to jump in the lake. And got away with it.

Anyone seen the firefox plugin: http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/?

Have been using it and love it, just don’t like the fact that google will have access to my browsing data.

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:42 am

They monitor that anyway! I love the plugin – I’ve been using it for a long time!

Ask a Question March 23, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Thats one evil video :)

Alex March 23, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Is a funny video, but i think than if Google buy Wikipedia, Google will control the Internet :p

IndoDX March 23, 2007 at 2:01 pm

And if that happen… I don’t know what will happen next :)

lyndonmaxewell March 24, 2007 at 1:44 am

Well.. It would be hard now to determine the ‘truth’ on everything, wouldn’t it?

Jonix March 23, 2007 at 6:13 pm

Isn’t google controling the internet now?

Dave March 24, 2007 at 9:46 am

No. They certainly wield a LOT of power, but they don’t control it.

Catmoves April 7, 2007 at 9:56 pm

 No, Google doesn’t control the internet now. But what control there is, is from the enormously rich international banking system backed by our own Federal Reserve Banking System. Have a look at the film on “freedomtofascism.com”.

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:45 am

Google controls the Internet now! They wouldn’t buy Wiki then change it – it’s purpose it user interaction!

Dave March 25, 2007 at 7:14 am

Wikipedia isn’t for sale, so they wouldn’t be able to buy it. Jimmy has said multiplle times that the company is not for sale.

derrich March 23, 2007 at 1:31 pm

What made it scarier is that the narrator hada British ak-sint. When I imagine Google’s computer(s), I think of that computer from iRobot. Definitely evil. Right up John’s alley.

Aris March 23, 2007 at 1:37 pm

Do you guys think that video will be taken out from Youtube?

Alex March 23, 2007 at 1:38 pm

jajajajajjaja
of course, youtube = google
jajaja

Dave March 25, 2007 at 10:28 am

I doubt Google will take it down from YouTube. That will only feed the fire: “See! It IS true, Google took it down so we couldn’t see!!” Would be the cry of the conspirators.

Jack March 23, 2007 at 1:47 pm

How long before we start seeing “The Google Center” instead of GM Place or the Air Canada Center.

derrich March 23, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Only a matter of time…

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:47 am

Why would that be a bad thing? Every state in the nation has a least five sponsored arenas!

Skitzzo March 23, 2007 at 1:52 pm

If you liked that video, you’ll like this one as well…

The Future of Adsense

It too could have been made by MS and might not be all that realistic but it’s something to think about at the very least and VERY well done.

derrich March 23, 2007 at 1:57 pm

I saw that…these videos are crazy. I want my mommy.

Jason March 23, 2007 at 3:11 pm

Heh heh … I like your avatar there.

Dave March 24, 2007 at 9:50 am

I think the Google video is much better than this adsense one. The Google vid actually seems like it’s based in fact (and probably most of it is, they just present the facts in the way they want it to come across). The Adsense video is pure sci-fi conjecture…and not very good conjecture at that :)

Alex Shalman March 23, 2007 at 2:10 pm

I don’t worry about things like this – I know that if anything bad was going to happen, John Chow would be there to save the day.

Submit2SearchEngine March 23, 2007 at 2:12 pm

Truly!! Promoted by Microsoft

androo March 23, 2007 at 2:18 pm

wild stuff!

Jeremy Steele March 23, 2007 at 2:22 pm

That sounded like one of those retarded “George Bush ordered 9/11″ videos. I might believe it if the video’s creator mysteriously “disappears”, but until that happens it is… blah.

Jonix March 23, 2007 at 6:20 pm

If this was real and a theory of conspiracy, what you said is absolutlty what google wants us to think and say :)

Jonathan Brazil March 23, 2007 at 2:39 pm

I think you have competition on the evil front John. :-)

Stephanie March 23, 2007 at 2:41 pm

I’m reading “The Google Story” right now – pretty interesting, but I didn’t pull any conspiracy theories out of it!

Stuart Hannig March 23, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Oh please, Micorosft? A lot of people hate Google.

Jeff Kee March 23, 2007 at 3:08 pm

And you all thought John Chow was evil? Think again.

Jason March 23, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Besides being overly dramatic, the video was your typical tabloid journalism … vague allegations without much substance. Just fear-mongering really.

I have to admit though, that I was kept enthralled by the clever and high-quality graphics and animation … if only they used that obvious talent for good instead of for evil!

Warren Buffett March 23, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Should have bought the stock !

Jon Lee March 23, 2007 at 3:23 pm

Thats a really paranoid video.. and yes, came out at $100 and experts said it was overinflated… damn experts

James March 23, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Never listen to the experts. The real experts can’t be reached for comment.

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:49 am

No kidding, I should have bought stock too

Dave March 25, 2007 at 7:15 am

I still think the stock is overvalued :)

Timen March 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm

What a load of crock.

Corey Stroeder March 23, 2007 at 3:30 pm

That was very interesting, but nothing was a surprise to me. I have heard all of this before. Aside from the Genetic Engineering stuff.

Corey

lisa coultrup March 23, 2007 at 3:38 pm

I love Google, they can do no wrong in my eyes
That being said, I do find it interesting that someone felt the need to make such a video, and I agree about the graphics, they were far more impressive than the information it contained. Thank you for putting this video up though.

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:57 am

I agree, they provide so many great products – for free! I realize they make their money from ads, but if that bothered me, I’d use an ad blocker!

Dave March 24, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Google is one of the better companies out there. But…I wouldn’t go as far as saying they can do no evil…as no one is perfect.

Ed Lau March 23, 2007 at 4:25 pm

Whoa, it’s like Nazi propaganda…but more high tech.

Trent March 23, 2007 at 7:03 pm

I cant view the video for some reason, anyone got direct link to it on youtube?

Ulchie March 23, 2007 at 8:49 pm

Now I feel REALLY guilty… I installed Google Analytics (Urchin) today to track web statistics on my site.

Wanna know the funny part? The reason I didn’t install it months ago was because I didn’t want google to use the information to essentially rip off publishers.

Maybe I should take it off…

Anyone know of any other really good free traffic stats program?

James March 23, 2007 at 8:55 pm

Some people take things too seriously.
Some is true. Much is just possibility.

lyndonmaxewell March 24, 2007 at 1:43 am

John can take a feather out of their hat and learn to be even more evil.. :D That’s how they succeed in what they do, don’t they?

Dave March 24, 2007 at 6:57 am

Personally, I don’t buy it.

You could make a “ZOMG” video like this about any major corporation. Probably worse than Google.

Saman Sadeghi March 24, 2007 at 11:59 am

Very true – every company uses focus groups, but I guess they don’t read your mail too…

Dave March 24, 2007 at 1:05 pm

Plenty of places to get email from, if you think Google is going to spy on you :)

(More likely they don’t really care about your correspondence)

Stuart Hannig March 24, 2007 at 2:44 pm

I wouldn’t doubt if Google was that evil.

Dave March 25, 2007 at 7:17 am

I’ll believe it when they try to take over the world :P

Catmoves March 25, 2007 at 3:46 pm

:???: Got a good laugh here…when it loaded. I seem to have a problem with You Tube videos, however. They load piecemeal, never play correctly until I rerun what I’ve already seen in bits and pieces. Why can’t the vid masters have them load completely so we are not forced to watch them twice?

Jeff March 27, 2007 at 12:28 am

Google = the root of not evil

I think it’s very…creative and engaging. It felt like watching a movie by the Wachowski brothers for a while there.
