Don’t Be Evil - Google’s Evil Master Plan
written by John Chow on March 23rd, 2007
I got a good laugh out of this video. While it was based on facts from the book The Google Story by David A. Vise, I personally think the video was sponsored by Microsoft.

Very interesting video indeed. Makes some valid points, but I wonder about its veracity. In any event, one thing is for sure, Google will keep growing as long as internet exists. Who knows how far Google will go about privacy.
Reply to this commentGood points. I too, think this video is a little farfetched, but who knows…

First thing I want to say is I don’t care for You Tube videos. I resent the bit by bit playing. Load the dang thing and then play it all at one time.
Reply to this commentThe clue to the humor is the statement that Google wants all information to be free to everyone. The punch line is: then Google can control it. The height of absurdity. You have to at least smile at this contradiction.
I also have trouble imagining the number of little men(women) wearing green eye shades, sitting in their little cells reading the 80 million pieces of email sent hourly around the world.
Google, I seem to remember, told the Homeland Insecurity gang to jump in the lake. And got away with it.
Anyone seen the firefox plugin: http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/?
Have been using it and love it, just don’t like the fact that google will have access to my browsing data.
Reply to this commentThey monitor that anyway! I love the plugin - I’ve been using it for a long time!
Reply to this commentThats one evil video
Reply to this commentIs a funny video, but i think than if Google buy Wikipedia, Google will control the Internet :p
Reply to this commentAnd if that happen… I don’t know what will happen next
Reply to this commentWell.. It would be hard now to determine the ‘truth’ on everything, wouldn’t it?
Reply to this commentIsn’t google controling the internet now?
Reply to this commentNo. They certainly wield a LOT of power, but they don’t control it.
Reply to this comment
No, Google doesn’t control the internet now. But what control there is, is from the enormously rich international banking system backed by our own Federal Reserve Banking System. Have a look at the film on “freedomtofascism.com”.
Reply to this commentGoogle controls the Internet now! They wouldn’t buy Wiki then change it - it’s purpose it user interaction!
Reply to this commentWikipedia isn’t for sale, so they wouldn’t be able to buy it. Jimmy has said multiplle times that the company is not for sale.
Reply to this commentWhat made it scarier is that the narrator hada British ak-sint. When I imagine Google’s computer(s), I think of that computer from iRobot. Definitely evil. Right up John’s alley.
Reply to this commentDo you guys think that video will be taken out from Youtube?
Reply to this commentjajajajajjaja
Reply to this commentof course, youtube = google
jajaja
I doubt Google will take it down from YouTube. That will only feed the fire: “See! It IS true, Google took it down so we couldn’t see!!” Would be the cry of the conspirators.
Reply to this commentHow long before we start seeing “The Google Center” instead of GM Place or the Air Canada Center.
Reply to this commentOnly a matter of time…
Reply to this commentWhy would that be a bad thing? Every state in the nation has a least five sponsored arenas!
Reply to this commentIf you liked that video, you’ll like this one as well…
The Future of Adsense
It too could have been made by MS and might not be all that realistic but it’s something to think about at the very least and VERY well done.
Reply to this commentI saw that…these videos are crazy. I want my mommy.
Reply to this commentHeh heh … I like your avatar there.
Reply to this commentI think the Google video is much better than this adsense one. The Google vid actually seems like it’s based in fact (and probably most of it is, they just present the facts in the way they want it to come across). The Adsense video is pure sci-fi conjecture…and not very good conjecture at that
Reply to this commentI don’t worry about things like this - I know that if anything bad was going to happen, John Chow would be there to save the day.
Reply to this commentTruly!! Promoted by Microsoft
Reply to this commentwild stuff!
Reply to this commentThat sounded like one of those retarded “George Bush ordered 9/11″ videos. I might believe it if the video’s creator mysteriously “disappears”, but until that happens it is… blah.
Reply to this commentIf this was real and a theory of conspiracy, what you said is absolutlty what google wants us to think and say
Reply to this commentI think you have competition on the evil front John.
Reply to this commentI’m reading “The Google Story” right now - pretty interesting, but I didn’t pull any conspiracy theories out of it!
Reply to this commentOh please, Micorosft? A lot of people hate Google.
Reply to this commentAnd you all thought John Chow was evil? Think again.
Reply to this commentBesides being overly dramatic, the video was your typical tabloid journalism … vague allegations without much substance. Just fear-mongering really.
I have to admit though, that I was kept enthralled by the clever and high-quality graphics and animation … if only they used that obvious talent for good instead of for evil!
Reply to this commentShould have bought the stock !
Reply to this commentThats a really paranoid video.. and yes, came out at $100 and experts said it was overinflated… damn experts
Reply to this commentNever listen to the experts. The real experts can’t be reached for comment.
Reply to this commentNo kidding, I should have bought stock too
Reply to this commentI still think the stock is overvalued
Reply to this commentWhat a load of crock.
Reply to this commentThat was very interesting, but nothing was a surprise to me. I have heard all of this before. Aside from the Genetic Engineering stuff.

Reply to this commentI love Google, they can do no wrong in my eyes
That being said, I do find it interesting that someone felt the need to make such a video, and I agree about the graphics, they were far more impressive than the information it contained. Thank you for putting this video up though.
I agree, they provide so many great products - for free! I realize they make their money from ads, but if that bothered me, I’d use an ad blocker!
Reply to this commentGoogle is one of the better companies out there. But…I wouldn’t go as far as saying they can do no evil…as no one is perfect.
Reply to this commentWhoa, it’s like Nazi propaganda…but more high tech.
Reply to this commentI cant view the video for some reason, anyone got direct link to it on youtube?
Reply to this commentNow I feel REALLY guilty… I installed Google Analytics (Urchin) today to track web statistics on my site.
Wanna know the funny part? The reason I didn’t install it months ago was because I didn’t want google to use the information to essentially rip off publishers.
Maybe I should take it off…
Anyone know of any other really good free traffic stats program?
Reply to this commentSome people take things too seriously.
Reply to this commentSome is true. Much is just possibility.
John can take a feather out of their hat and learn to be even more evil..
That’s how they succeed in what they do, don’t they?
Reply to this commentPersonally, I don’t buy it.
You could make a “ZOMG” video like this about any major corporation. Probably worse than Google.
Reply to this commentVery true - every company uses focus groups, but I guess they don’t read your mail too…
Reply to this commentPlenty of places to get email from, if you think Google is going to spy on you
(More likely they don’t really care about your correspondence)
Reply to this commentI wouldn’t doubt if Google was that evil.
Reply to this commentI’ll believe it when they try to take over the world

Got a good laugh here…when it loaded. I seem to have a problem with You Tube videos, however. They load piecemeal, never play correctly until I rerun what I’ve already seen in bits and pieces. Why can’t the vid masters have them load completely so we are not forced to watch them twice?
Reply to this commentGoogle = the root of not evil

Reply to this commentI think it’s very…creative and engaging. It felt like watching a movie by the Wachowski brothers for a while there.
