Don’t Forget To Claim Your Facebook Name

Tonight is the Facebook land rush to get your own vanity URL on Facebook. What this mean is you’ll be able to tell your friends that your Facebook URL is Facebook.com/yourname. However the claim process will be first come, first serve. If you want to prevent your name from being claimed by a squatter, then you should be at Facebook tonight at midnight EST (9PM PST) and claim your name.

You are allowed to claim only one name so make sure it’s the one you want. I just know that if I’m not there right when the land rush opens, someone is going to take my name. Facebook did pre-book some names for trade marked companies and well known journalists but everyone else in on their own.

To claim your Facebook URL, go http://www.facebook.com/username/. There’s a countdown clock on there right now. Less than seven hours to go. Good luck getting your name!

By a show of hands, how many of you are going to claim your real name and how many of you are going to squat on a keyword phrase instead?

    1. You can’t really squat, as only old accounts will be able to claim names.

    2. I claimed my real name. That’s the better idea anyway, considering someone else could come along & take it just for kicks. That would suck.

Yeah servers will crash I’m sure. Also a good opportunity for some clever marketing if you have or create several Facebook accounts.

    1. Cam Birch says:

As Chris said above, squatting is being prevented by the fact that accounts created after the facebook name announcement won’t be able to reserve a name until some time after the initial release.

You don’t need 1,000 Fans to get your own username.

The only criteria is your Facebook account must be registered before June 9

WPThemes’s last blog post: iThemes is now GPL

    1. You need 1,000 fans for a vanity name for a FB page but not for your profile. You only need to have registered before June 9th to get your profile url.

      1. Didn’t know that you need 1000 fans for a page. I need to get to work on that because I want a new username for it badly.
