Dot Com Pho – Dance with a Zero Edition
This Dot Com Pho is unlike any previous Dot Com Pho. For one thing, this is the first Dot Com Pho with a commercial! That’s right! We’ve found a sponsor who made an offer we just couldn’t turn down.
The recent snow storm kept most of the Dot Com Pho regulars stuck at home. As a matter of fact, this was one of the lowest attended Dot Com Pho to date, with only five attendees. Joining Sarah and me were Greg Morgan, Danny Chang and Wolfgang. It’s too bad more people couldn’t make it out because the sponsor lavished everyone who showed up with gifts! Anyone is welcome to join us for Dot Com Pho. Follow me on Twitter to find out the time and location of the next one.
For this edition of Dot Com Pho, we have the first Dot Com Pho commercial, Pho menu #23, what we got for Christmas, winner of the XR.com contest, the gadget of the week, making love the hard way, the world’s ugliest iPhone, the biggest Twitter shout out to date and a whole lot more. Enjoy!

Congrats on getting a sponsor. I thought it would be boring to sit through and watch but it wasnt.
I guess you gotta be careful when choosing your sponsors for dot com pho to make sure that the commercial is actually entertaining and not too long.
yeh, so you are making money of everything now…
what would be the next making money thing ?
MMMM Drink coke zero….
Wow – i guess advertising really DOES work heehhe
I’ve noticed that some sites have commercials run in their videos for no longer than 1 minute.
I missed the shout out :*(
Oh wait, I just saw my name. Yay!
John you spelled my URL wrong you dumbass!
You are like my idol!
I hope that someday i also get payed to post a video in my website.
Thats a good idea, a Payed Per Video program.
Congrats on the sponsor John!
John, what’s the deal with the load time on your site?
It’s loading fine for me. Sorry you missed the shout out. Try next week!
Weird. I don’t have any trouble with other site. It’s been kind of chronic. Hrm… Must just be my geographic location?
Congrats on the sponsor John!
Hey John,
Thanks for including me in the Twitter Shout Out. Glad I could make it this round. Keep up the great work.
Awesome news about the sponsor. I have to say….I had no idea until the commercial ran what the “tongue” was supposed to be! Maybe it’s just me!
I bet that tongue makes lots of friends.
Good rundown on the Christmas gifts and the food looks great.
I’m liking the mini fridge, especially for late night study hours.
That’s a nice mini fridge… I want one!
Thank you for the plug John
My question is why is the cigarette in the coke bottle’s mouth? I thought media was moving away from that because of the big push for everyone to stop smoking.
Nevermind, another look at it proved me an idiot! That’s a straw, not a cigarette. But it could have easily been mistaken for one. No really, it could have.
You mistaken a straw for a cigarette? LOL
LOL that one gave me a good laugh – not only are they plugging coke zero, but they’re trying to bring back the “celebrities smoking is cool” thing all in one!!! lol!!
That’s a straw, not a cigarette
LMFAO it doesn’t look like a cigarette!
First time viewer, and I loved the show. Congrats on getting a sponsor. Next stop multiple sponsors? Can be entertaining, just look at how Diggnation deal with the sponsor thing.
God job securing that Sponsor, Man I really need to get started organizing some
local blog meetups on a regular basis in Sweden.
Looks so much fun just hanging out chilling with some authority bloggers.
Eww that thingy on the right looks sick..
The eye?
Thanks for the shout out, BCMblog.com
Damn, I could eat a vermicelli bowl right about now!!
John is as usually cute in his ideas.
is that video in fast foreward?!
It’d be great if i could watch that video well. cause we have very slow connection out here. Anyway, it took quite a long time to first download that video.
Getting a Fortune 500 sponsor is huge news! Congrats.
Missed seeing Ed.
You should let us know about how much did they pay?
I’m sure would love it if I tell you. LOL
John,
Why didn’t Michael Kwan just put snow tires on his scooter and ride it to Dot Com Pho?
Nice prizes for the bold attendees! Pajama’s and a Coke refrigerator? Awesome, that would look cool next to my computer while blogging.
Have a safe and happy new year John. Hope to meet you again at #ASW09 in Las Vegas.
Respectfully,
Nicholas Chase

I was actually having lunch with a friend whom I haven’t seen in a while. I should be back at pho next week and then it’s off to CES and ASW!
congrats for getting a sponsor
I’ve been using some of your twitter tips with great success. Thanks for the great content!
Did the charity winner get announced?
How can I tell you didn’t watch the video?
LOL!!!! You would think one would be a bit more discreet in terms of admitting to not watching the video hehehe
Gee, well “one” didn’t have 7 minutes during this busy time of the year to see if his charity would be benefiting from the contest. Figured it would be mentioned in the post.
You couldn’t take time out just to watch this video? It’s not like it’s an hour long.
Didn’t realize such an innocent question would garner so much heat. I didn’t know the winner wouldn’t be in the post, and yes, when you’re spending holiday time with family you see once or twice a year, seven minutes watching a video is time spent away from family fun.
Considering the question was about charity, you’d think the replies would be, let’s see, charitable?
Hi John. Thanks for listing my blog in Twitter Shout Out. I wonder if its possible to create linkable regions to URL in videos? This may be something more common when we’re at Web 3.0.
I bet this blog ranks well for the word “pho”
Wow…talk about johnchow.com reaching out worldwide…:D
-Mike
thanks for nice video……
I love that ad. How creative.
I’ve never had pho but I just found a restaurant near work…I’m going to try it out! Maybe I can start a Brevard County dot com pho LOL
MarketLeverage is going to be planning some meet ups very soon, and we’re not too far from Brevard!! Maybe we can all meet up!!
Would like to see ML meet-up in all parts of the country. Sure Market Leverage has the demographics to determine where ML affiliate’s are density rich.
let’s dance with zero now
Tastes nothing like coke…
I loved this weeks Dot Com Pho!
*Sips on his coke*
Random idea, but seeing that video reminds me of my dot com crazed days of supporting 5 data centers in San Jose and guess where we ate in between calls almost every day? Pho!!!
I enjoyed it but after a while I wanted to try some of the other amazing food in the area too
The dancing is so graceful and contagious! Looking at the magnificent sight one is ready to break into a dance together.
Yup like what you are doing that’s the case and looking into anther dimension on persistency to be succesfull blogger
Care to share what is the sponsor amount that you couldn’t say no?
Good luck with getting more sponsorships.
