This week’s Dot Com Pho heads back to basic at Happy Pho in Vancouver. When I said back to basic, I mean really back to basic. All the stuffs you expect at Dot Com Pho are here. The gadget of the week, the iPad app of the week, Ed Lau being the last person to show up, etc.
In addition to all the basic stuff, I got to review Guerrilla Social Media Marketing, a new book by my friend Shane Gibson and Jay Conrad Levinson. The original Guerrilla Marketing book sold over 20 million copies. It’ll be interesting to see how this social media version does. I was given two extra copies. If you want to try and win it, just reply to this blog post. I’ll draw the winners next week. Good luck!
Is that book good?
Yes, of course it’s good. Go buy a copy!
I’m hoping it’s good.
I skim through social media books whenever I’m at a bookstore and I rarely learn anything useful from them.
Do you ever do anything with books but skim them?
Sometimes it takes careful reading of everything and more than once too to really benefit.
Did you read all of it?
If you did, what did you learn from it?
From the book title, I got the feeling that it is a really good book to read. Check it on amazon @Daniel
Yeah anything with the word “guerilla” sparks interest.
I would like to read the book but don’t want to be disappointed if it’s about stuff I already know.
Why don’t you enter in the draw? Well, I guess you did by posting as comment but with that attitude it’ll be better if someone else wins, like me.
Whoever wins is fine with me but it would be nice to win since any of John’s draws left me with empty hands.
Well I’m definitely in to WIN!
Because my reading list is empty and am interested in this book.
But if it doesn’t quite meet my expectations, I’ll raffle it off as well.
Able to win it or not, depends on the probability since the more comment you make the higher your chances. But it is also depending on your luck.
I hope I can also win the book 🙂
lol yeah that’s the strategy.
I hope you win too.
Chapter 5 is available for free on my blog in PDF and Chapter one is available as an MP3. Try before you buy 🙂
guerrillasocialmediahq dot com.
Cheers!
@shanegibson
That’s really a cool marketing …
Thanks for sharing this!
I was wondering if you had any sample chapters from the book released.
I might order it. BTW, I remembered now that I paid your book twice and I think you forgot to refund me one payment. Anyway it doesn’t matter 🙂
I think you should email John.
If you paid through paypal you can dispute it and get your money back.
It isn’t that hard to do and you’ll most likely get a response. But if you bought the book through amazon, you’ll have to deal with their customer support.
I have never found Pay Pal to be very helpful about disputes
But here John also involves … so if refund than please update here ….
2 hours late lol. Is that a record? What’s the longest time he’s been late?
A new giveaway to be won! I’d gladly trade the DVD I won for this book 😉
Thats not at all new for Ed ..
Well, recently he actually showed up almost on time a few times, like within half an hour. Now he lapsed back to a more usual pattern it seems.
That’s not good at all 🙂
What else is new for Ed?
He’s such an interesting character.
Haha.. yeah.. things back to normal fun way.. can’t wait to see more interesting stuff from him..
Good luck d3so – you might win again
Hi John, I’ve read your Make Money Online book and I must say, now I know why you are the very best in the industry! Thank you for an incredible book!!!
Do you have Dot Com Pho often? It would be great to meet you in person and have you autograph the book.
Dot com phos are held every Saturday at both Vancouver and Seattle or wherever John is.
I already have two autographed copies of his book 😉
Why do you keep two? Give one away to someone who will make a good use of it.
Well I won both of them.
One is autographed by John and the other is autographed by both John & Michael.
I plan to give one of them away on my blog as a prize.
Wow.. You sure have won quite much from John. @d3so
That is the best way to get more visitors.
Do it as soon as possible.
That’s right. I don’t even keep a single copy. After I read a book, I give it to someone else 🙂
Using the extra book for a contest prize is a great idea except for the shipping charges which you’ll have to cover too.
I am sure he will happily bear that one as he will get new visitors … provided he do a good marketing.
Please enter my name! Thanks
You are already in the game steve..
Price $15+Shipping$25=$40
Sorry, can’t afford that.
Where do you live that shipping would cost more than the book. Amazon normally offer free shipping if your order totals over $25. So I normally buy 2 books.
I am sorry, my bad. It’s not $25.
It’s $15.99 for priority shipping to India including surcharge.
Well, that’s affordable. But I, like most others, want to make sure if that book is really helpful.
I wonder if amazon let’s you read a sample chapter so you can check its quality.
I know that they do that for some books, I’m not sure if they do it for all of them.
I know you’re bound to learn something new or else John wouldn’t even mention the book.
Just make sure to implement what you learn otherwise it’ll all be useless.
$15 is a cheap investment. Though I’m not sure how much a dollar compares to the currency in India.
I think that not including shipping the $15 is still not cheap for them, it may be like $600 for us.
He lives in India.
Not everyone lives in the US, you know 🙂
I love Guerrilla Marketing tactics, I think I will buy a copy! Book looks great!
Guerilla trick always works … even in war zone they are the most dangerous enemy.
Lets see hows this book is going …
Would love to see few review and comments.
Saying that guerilla tactics always work is like stating a guarantee.
I don’t think they would work all the time but I do believe that they are effective.
Maybe we can check out the reviews at amazon.
Whoever wins the book should write a review of it. I’ll do it if i happen to win.
good idea. i’ll do the review too if I win.
A review would not be a problem. I will do it if i’m lucky enough to win..
Guerrilla marketing is also one of my passions and it’s one reason I’ll get my hands on the book 🙂
So is it a deal that whoever wins reviews it? If the book is really great there will be reviews of it on Amazon but that may take a while for them to materialize..
Wow. USB 3.0 for better file transfer. I haven’t hear of that in my local computer store. Maybe they haven’t get it in the market here.
At last Ed made it to the Dot Com Pho meeting. nothing more interesting happening after that John?
I haven’t heard of 3.0 either.
It must be significantly faster if it’s 10x faster than 2.0
I bet over in Europe they already have 5.0
What makes you think that Europe has that much better stuff?
I know for a fact Europe does have better stuff because everything gets released there first.
Not only Europe but Eurasia.
They’ve had video calling for the past decade and have had a 5g cellular network while we’re still working on 4.
They also have 32gb SD cards while the most I’ve seen here in the US is 8gb.
The only thing that they would lack is stuff that is made here in the US.
you’re wrong about europe :))
Never heard of that.. But things in US and Europe sure release so fast. I don’t think whether the 3.0 USB and the 32gb SD cards has reach here. Or they are finishing their stock before releasing the new one.
Hope the tech can reach here sooner.
Man, 5G ? Where have you heard about 5G from ? We don’t even have 4G 🙂
D3so,
They are more advanced in some areas but that keeps changing too. A lot of stuff is invented in North America but it’s made mostly somewhere else.
They were way ahead in mobile phones but that is slowly changing too.
You’d be amazed if you went there.
What are some notable inventions in North America made East?
Trust me it’s a whole other world in the east coast. America, unfortunately is declining and isn’t the core of the world as it once was.
In europe they have 4.5G or 5g. I’m not surprised because their government is less restrictive.
I bought USB 8G in UK yesterday and the store also had USB16G. Seems strange you can’t get this in US. Am I reading this right?
Sounds like a good book, I would love win a copy. I think social media has massive potential and should be utilized by all bloggers. It takes a while to build up a network of course but the rewards are great so it’s well worth doing.
Stumble upon unparticular is a good one because people can stumble your stuff for months if it does ok initially, the random stumble button is addictive though!
Its good to because of the social aspect, it doesn’t seem like work when you are promoting your work on a social media site.
And of course just by adding the relevant buttons to your site might mean you don’t even have to do that as your reader will share your stuff automatically if they like it.
Social media is a powerful force to utilize.
You just have to manifest its powers by building your profile effectively. I have yet to find a way to do so quickly.
But I’ve already experience a good amount of traffic coming from my Twitter and facebook accounts.
Good to hear that. I’m working on my social website subscriber. Lots of things I need to learn here. I will need to check on how to get the targeted subscriber on my list.
I want one !
John just came across your blog. Great stuff I’ve been reading through posts for the last hour. Lots of insights and knowledge scattered throughout. That social media guerilla marketing book would be super useful in my two new sites, especially because the audience are the biggest users if social media. Collegesteal dot com and vplaylist dot com!
I had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Shane Gibson, my reading has been so full lately but I really want a copy to see what he was talking about.
My reading list is empty at the moment.
I do have ebooks to read but get bored reading from a computer screen or my iPhone.
D3so, it looks like you finally came around. I remember you saying in your comments a few months back that you only read ebooks.
I love JCL’s stuff. Please consider your post replied to! 🙂
Looks like a great book!
Put my name in the bowl…
Looks like a great book. I just ordered one of his books. Hoping to win this one as well!
Hell, let’s see if I get lucky this time then.
Looks like a great read, will definitely have to check it out the next time I’m at Chapters.
John,
Awesome stuff! Please enter me in the drawing! Looks like a great book.
Best,
Ian
The baby is very cute, thanks for sharing the new book 🙂
Add my name for the book draw please!

Stephen trim your hair and save your time.
Can you please enter me in the drawing. Nice picture for the video.
Have a great time in Miami Beach! Hope to see you at a Dot Com Pho sometime…Steve and Dassy
Talking about miami beach and dot com pho, is there any chance to get john make dot com pho there? maybe sexy girls edition XD
I don’t think he’d want to do that kind of an edition and his wife wouldn’t like it that much either.
Haha.. Yeah, I guess he will came up with a better edition than hot girls.
i would love to win this book! thx–
i’d like to enter too. I think the book will be very useful for me.
I’d find this book very useful, myself. If I don’t win it, I will likely go buy one.
That’s what most people who really want the book and don’t win will likely do.
Will this help me make social media a more efficient branding device? I am primarily looking for a way to determine the relevance of some of the less well known Social Media Sites
Yet another great resource for information I am going to have to look into while at the book store. At this rate I am going to have my discount card paid for in a weeks time.
Can’t be a worse read than Gibson’s ‘Socialize’ book.
It was written for ppl 60yrs+ , or those who have never been on the internet or watched tv.
For every positive information there is some negative feedback to it..
Oh it is over. I see large number of commentators are looking to read what Mr. Gibson wrote in that book. But there were only two books and dozens of commentators.
