Dot Com Pho – Learning To Read Edition

We got tired of eating Pho every week so this week, we decided to head to Nando’s Chicken in Kerrisdale for some flame grilled Portuguese chicken. Nando’s is one of my favorite places for chicken. The franchise has hundreds of locations around the world and Vancouver has been a very good market for them. Nando’s is also the first restaurant that allowed me to try out my new chip enable Visa card.

We had a nice turn out of ten people coming out for Nando’s famous Peri Peri chicken. The location is idea for a Dot Com meet up. It’s relatively quiet with a seating layout that promotes networking. This is the second Dot Com Pho we held at Nando’s and I can see us going there for more meet ups in the future.

For the Learning To Read Edition of Dot Com Pho, we have Stephen’s chicken lunch, Tris Hussey’s new blogging book, eBook reader smack down between the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPhone, iPadInCanada.ca, the iPhone app of the week and other stuff. Anyone is welcome to join us for Dot Com Pho. Follow me on Twitter to find the time and location of the next one.

  1. They always look like a great time. Pity I don’t live in Canada!

Stephen could have easily finished that on his own.

    1. Nice iPhone app recommendation. Definitely going to have to download that to check out some local events at the games. 🙂

It’s a pretty sweet app that takes full advantage of your location on the iPhone! It’ll tell you what’s happening around you. Definitely a polished app. Another good one is the CTVOlympics.ca app for live results and medal counts.

I would love to eat that chicken.

    1. Nando’s Rocks! I live a short hop from the original one in Savoy in South Africa. A local businessman so enjoyed the portuguese style flame grilled chicken his favourite corner shyoppie was producing that he bought the shop and the recipe, and the rest is history!

  4. Nando’s no doubt makes good chicken. Haven’t seen the one in Kerrisdale though. What’s the closest intersection?

  5. I never have tried the Kindle, and will never buy the kindle. That said, I’m not impressed with the iPad, and will probably go for one of the other brands. Like the Lenovo’s IdeaPad which is an netbook, but you can take the screen of and then it’s an tablet. 🙂 Looks really cool!

Though the iPad won’t be kill the desktop or laptop, it’ll definitely kill the Kindle DX. It’s single use function is so weak compared to the iPad and the iPad has its weaknesses.

      1. I agree! The Kindle is going to come out second best inh this fight. The iPad is just soooo much more versatile, even for the entry level model, that it will be a no-brainer when it comes to deciding which one to buy.

There is no dount Apple has got Amazon covered on most aspects.

Hey just an FYI, they are opening a Nando’s chicken at Davie and Howe, right across the street from Fitness World. Finally, a Nando’s in my neighbourhood!

You guys really should get Apple to sponsor this. So blindly promoting the iphone/ipad.

    1. John Chow says:

While Apple has sponsored our events before, I don’t think we were blindly promoting the iPhone or iPad. When a company clearly makes a better product, it’s just better. Amazon should be worry.

      1. And that is for sure! Do you think they have something lurking in the sidelines that may help them stay ahead?

  9. David says:

got that app last week, it looks great!

Also, had a chance to play around with the kindle, I found the same, not very fast and just not worth the money!

  10. Very great application. Most reviews I’ve saw in the internet Kindle is a great gadget to use.

Introductory to the foods that you eat makes me hungry. Love the coleslaw. The chicken are really adoringly tasty.
