Dot Com Pho – Nando’s Chicken Edition

We decided to take a break from the normal Vietnamese noodle and try something different for this week’s Dot Com Pho. I ask for restaurant suggestions and Jasmin Norris said to go to Nando’s Chicken in Karrisdale because it was close to her and she’ll be able to join us. So we go there and like a typical prima donna, Jasmin doesn’t show. Her reason? She had to work. Ed Lau’s reaction was, “Work? What the hell is that?” What the hell is work anyway?

Even though we were missing some of the Pho regulars, we still had a total 12 people attend this edition of Dot Com Pho. For more than half of the attendees, this was their first Pho meet up. It’s always good to see new faces and we welcome anyone to join us for Dot Com Pho. Follow me on Twitter to find the time and location of the next one.

Nando’s Chicken Karrisdale proved to be a great place to hold a Dot Com Pho. The place had plenty of room and wasn’t busy at all. We pretty much had the entire place all to ourselves. The chicken was really good and extremely tender. Nando’s can prepare your chicken with a choice of spiciness ranging from mild to extra hot. Better make sure you have lot of water nearby before trying the extra hot.

For the Nando’s edition of Dot Com Pho, we have Peri Peri Chicken, people with ADD, making fun of Jasmin, walking in a winter wonderland, West Vancouver junk mail and a whole lot more. This was definitely one of the most fun Dot Com Pho video I’ve ever filmed. Enjoy!

    Milk, not water if you want to kill hotness in food. Water will just make it worse.

      Actually MythBusters said that water is the best. Milk has too much acid in it which can’t do as good of a job as some regular old H2O can.

        Mythbusters doesn’t have the PHD like the real doctors that will tell you that water does nothing but spread it around Because capsaicins are not water-soluble, drinking milk (with milk fat and proteins) rather than water is a more effective way to quench the fire caused by hot peppers..

        That is why Mythbusters is a bunch of FUD.

          Grew up with the hot stuff in the Orient … we always had lemonade alongside the hot dishes – that would be the real lemon squeezed not the powdered versions we have here (and nowhere as tasty)

    Was my first Dotcompho and i had a great time. Lots of stimulating conversation good for us understimulated ADDers. Thanks for the Broke DVD and the hilarious West Van junkmail examples. I never thought there was junkmail advertising that was so prestigious that they could sell other companies ad space insides their own collection of ads.

  3. As a proud South African it makes me happy to see some local fare on the menu. Nando’s originated a couple of kilometers from where I live, and I regularly get my chicken fix from the original store (much revamped over the years, of course!) It does make a nice change to actually knoiw what the food you guys are eating, tastes like!

      Jaques, hi fellow South African. I know which Nando outlet you talking about. I use to go there all the time. Now I go to the Kerrisdale Nando’s most friday nights. John I’ll have to try and join your Pho outings sometime. Just had a baby so I am mostly house bound in my spare time.

I’m not real sure what this Nando’s Chicken is and why people in South Africa mention it’s origins are from SA and then you John are eating it and it sounds popular in Canada…I’m definitely missing out on something good here. For those of us who are not familiar with this Nando chicken I’m going to google it and see what makes this little chicken morsel so popular. I’ll let ya all know, if there is anyone who doesn’t know about it. Thanks for making me hungry John especially w/ the pictures. jj

      I donΒ΄t know how it started, but is from Portugal this way of cooking chicken and is very popular all over the world .
      The Cockerel is a symbol of a Portuguese Town, Barcelos.
      You should try the real grilled chicken here in Portugal.
