Dot Com Pho – Sponsor My Honeymoon Edition

After spending $788 per table (plus tax and tips) for 21 tables, Michael Kwan has run out of money for his honeymoon. He is looking for help. If you would like to help sponsor Michael’s honeymoon to Australia, you can paypal him at [email protected]. He’s looking for $30,000 so open up that PayPal account! I got the ball rolling but giving him a nice wedding bonus in his paycheck.

In addition to raising money for Kwan, this episode of Dot Com Pho features a sliding gadget of the week, the iPad app of the week, women talking tech, flipping the iPhone 4S, what would Steve Jobs do, and Ed NOT being last! Find out who was later than Ed by watching the episode.

Anyone is welcome to join us for Dot Com Pho. Follow me on Twitter to find out the time and location of the next one.

If he can’t pay for his own honeymoon, why is he getting married in the first place? Does he even have legal fees for a prenup?

      1. Dealbulous says:

this would mean next time if you are going for honeymoon, you can ask him for help too πŸ˜›

        1. Michael … what your wife will think of you … that for honeymoon you are collecting donation … Lollzzz

Though this is not for a noble cause … this donation will go to increase the population.

Why don’t you contact your Australian friends to arrange accommodation and all as well.

          1. Michael Kwan says:

My friend lives in one city and I want to see more of the country than that. I could probably crash at her place if I visit that city, but I’d need accommodations/transportation everywhere else.

The call for sponsorship is kinda tongue in cheek. Think of it as a wedding gift? I don’t really *need* it, per se, but it would still be greatly appreciated. Not all of us are making John Chow money. :p

Come to Come to the citizen. We collect money for honeymoon πŸ˜€

        1. panax says:

How much do you want ? how many dollars πŸ˜€

    1. Dzulhelmee says:

I absolutely agree.. Took me 5 years of and hours of overtime before I have enough money to get married and a simple honeymoon. $788 per table is just to much !

“If you fail to plan, You are planning to fail”

      1. Michael Kwan says:

$788 is actually pretty typical (if not on the slightly lower end) when it comes to wedding banquets in Chinese restaurants in Vancouver.

      2. β€œIf you fail to plan, You are planning to fail” I couldnt have said it better myself πŸ˜‰

    2. Bloaty says:

its called a joke…..he got married b/c he wants to…collecting/asking for sponsor is just for laughs..kicks…not meant to be serious…

  2. Ed Lau says:

Forget Michael’s honeymoon…let’s put some money together to build that statue of me, commemorating the day that I did not arrive at Dot Com Pho last.

If we need to cut corners somewhere…we can take out the smaller, far less glorious and majestic statue of Aaron standing in the corner in shame. Instead, we can just have Aaron come by for an hour a day and stand in the corner himself so that the tourists can take pictures with him.

    1. Hey Ed,

Before collecting the money for your statue let’s find out if we can get a suitable place for it.

Happy Pho woud be ideal. I’m not keen on a corner of shame. Let’s forego that and that way your statue can be bigger.

      1. @ Ed

Visited your food blog and I must say that you got awesome photography skill.

With your photos, foods are looking more delicious.

  3. I like his idea. The more he can get in his paypal account the better honeymoon for her future wife. πŸ™‚

  5. Dealbulous says:

Sorry, I am not used to sponsor for someone’s wedding but since it comes from John, I guess a small amount from me is no problem πŸ™‚

    1. Michael Kwan says:

      *checks PayPal activity*

I don’t see anything from you yet. πŸ™‚

  6. very funny, but it is not true please spent own money on his own honeymoon.

  7. If you want a great wedding?better think of it and plan it according to your choice. For me wedding is holy, because its only happen once in your life if both couple sincerely love each other and only death can apart.

  8. Hey John,

That was a fun Dot Com Pho. It will be a while before you are in Vancouver again. Whoever wants to find out why will do so by watching this video of you at the latest Dot Com Pho:

    1. Hey John and everybody,

The video link above is missing a digit 4 at the end. Sorry about that. the correct link to the video of John Chow is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjZPO0O6SP4

If you want to see the Asus Eee Pad Slider review from a different angle and with additional footage it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSKB3-yB0q4

  9. Why marry at all, and why go on a honeymoon when you have no money. It will be divorced within a few months πŸ™‚

    1. He didn’t say he has no money. If he can get some extra money it will help but he will do just fine without it too.

  10. Boy this will be headlines –

“Michael Kwan seeking or asking for money to take his wife for honeymoon”

  11. Kate says:

    My take on this:
I went to Australia for my honeymoon from Vancouver and to be able to afford the trip I scaled down the wedding costs, it was plain and simple.
Nobody needs to spend $30,000.00 on a honeymoon, but if they choose to do so they can darn well pay for it themself.
I do not find this amusing, I find it pathetic that someone goes on line using John Chow to get their message out. I am disappointed in John Chow for even doing this in the first place, what were you thinking John Chow?
What will people be asking next from the John Chow dot com site, money for kidney transplants? Who knows… but if you start this, there will be more requests, I can pretty much guarantee that.
This person must be a personal friend of John Chow, is my guess.

No donations from me that’s for sure.

    1. Kate,

If you haven’t noticed John Chow wrote this post. It is his blog and he can write what he wants.

Does that disappoint you? You can either start your own blog and let other people determine what you can write (good luck with being able to please everyone) or you can write what you want.

If you decide to write what you want Just imagine how you’ll feel about comments you’ve just made.

    2. Michael Kwan says:

      Why so serious?

The $30,000 figure is obviously fictitious and I know better than that. I can also afford to pay for the wedding and the honeymoon, otherwise I would not have done it. It was meant to be a tongue in cheek joke. At the same time, I appreciate wedding gifts, just as anyone else would when they get married. As others have mentioned, this is once in a lifetime.

    3. Michael Kwan says:

Also, you must be new to this site. I’m in nearly every DCP video and have been friends with John for years. Nearly all the reviews on this site are also written by me.

    4. Bloaty says:

      Dear Kate:

Perhaps you are taking this blog to seriously …its called a joke…just to have a good laugh…lighten up..its just a J-O-K-E…

    5. Ray Ebersole says:

      Kate,

You don’t have a clue do you? Your last sentence says it all, and let me help you: Yes they are friends, they cowrote a book together, do Dot Com Pho together. When John isn’t around in Vancouver, it’s Michael that runs Dot Com Pho and does the video.

It was all for fun, which is what Dot Com Pho is all about. It would be better served if you understood what it was all about before going all out in a comment that shows you don’t get it because it just makes you look stupid.

    6. John Chow says:

Michael’s asking for $30K for his honeymoon is about as serious as me being a damn fine person, friend of the community, Ultimate Fighting Championship contestant, member of the Save the Whales Foundation, the man who controls the black market on baby seal pelts and member of the β€œprobably yo’ daddy” foundation. πŸ˜›

  12. Winner says:

Kate needs to get a life. She can’t even tell what’s fact or fiction. Time for you to go out to the real world for once instead of being a sheltered princess living in your daddy’s basement. John Chow is da man.

  13. fas says:

Wooow Dot Com Pho has gone from a review video and happening to a money collecting event.

  14. Rajiv says:

never thought of this one what an idea.

  17. Cheolsu says:

You could do a lot with $30k for honey moon in Australia. Some people going there on working holiday, don’t even spend so much for the whole year πŸ˜€

  18. that is very strange… $788 for 1 table and there are total 21 tables… puzzled? why he didn’t go for slightly cheaper table?

  19. $788 per table its too costly why he didn’t choose the normal table

    1. Party Ideas says:

Facebook John is a great man indeed so table should be unique & fabulous..

    2. Party Ideas says:

I assume $788 will nothing for John….!!thatt’s why not much expensive for John..

  20. Party Ideas says:
