Double Your Site’s Revenue with Scott Wainner

I first wrote about Scott Wainner back in November 2006. Scott and I go way back – all the way back to the dot com boom. While I was running The TechZone, Scott had a tech site call SysOpt.com and another one call ResellerRatings.

In the summer of 1999, EarthWeb acquired Scott’s two sites plus another site call CodeGuru for $12.4 million in cash and stock. He had just turned 21. You can read the full story on what happen to Scott here, but to make a long story short, the Internet crashed and Scott bought back ResellerRatings for a fraction of what he sold it for.

Scott’s story is the kind that Internet dreams are made of. It’s the kind of story that draws millions to try their hand at making money online. A few months ago, Scott emailed me asking if he should start his own blog about making money on the Web. I told him to go for it. Over the weekend, Scott sent me an email saying his new blog, W Revenue dot Com, was up. I was going to give him a shout out but he ordered this ReviewMe review instead.

What Is W Revenue dot Com?

The name W Revenue came about because I advised Scott not to use his name for the blog. W Revenue sounds like “Double your revenue” and the W is for Scott’s last name. I think it’s kinda catchy. The blog will focus on doing business on the web and making money from content based sites and forums.

The blog has an extremely clean two-column layout with a nice amount of blue, which is the official color of tech. Other than links to Scott’s network of sites, there is no advertising of any kind on W Revenue dot Com. I am not sure if Scott plans to monetize the blog or leave it ad free.

Why You Should Listen To Scott Wainner

Unlike the thousands of “make money online” blogs where the blogger has never actually made any money online, Scott writes from experience. His websites generates seven figures in revenue annually. In his Freshmen year of college he was making $100,000 a year with SysOpts.com. And let’s not forget he sold two sites for millions at the height of the dot com boom and bought one back for pennies at the bottom of the dot com crash.

So.. I have website marketing, monetization, and development experience to share, which until now has been bottled up. I think it’s better to share and collaborate than to keep secrets, don’t you?

I can understand where Scott is coming from. One of the reasons I started John Chow dot Com was to share my knowledge and experience and having W Revenue on the Net just made things a whole lot more interesting.

It May Be Brand New But Scott Is An Old Hat

W Revenue dot Com is a brand new blog – it went live on Sunday. Scott seeded the blog with nine high quality posts that you’ll want to check out.

If you haven’t done so, I would recommend adding W Revenue dot Com to your RSS reader (Scott offers a full feed). I am looking forward to reading more of Scott’s work and I’m really glad he decided to move forward to create W Revenue. The Internet needs more people like Scott. There are tons of people who have make a lot of money online, but not many are willing to share what they know. Like Scott said, “I think it’s better to share and collaborate than to keep secrets, don’t you?”

  1. Another one in my list it seems a good blog from the start.

  2. Wow, can I say lucky ***? I knew I shouldn’t have sold my first website :)

  3. This is the second review of him I have read today. Hope his blog does well.

  4. The blog has a good design and some high quality articles too. I like it and maybe will add to my RSS feed.
John, did you mean that you were going to review his site for free before?

  5. Nice site, Scott obviously got some experience. Few good reviews around won’t do any harm too :)

  6. Nice blog I second that, I just read all the entries, made a comment and added the feed. It makes for a nice read to know the background of the guy, I hope he’s really starting to blog regularly.

  7. The blog looks excellent and has a elegant look. Most of the posts are really a good read, but I hope he won’t be just giving away the best tips at the first month of his blogging and than remain without a topic (tho, from what you say, he should not remain without topic to write on for a pretty long time).

  8. the article was good and long, will keep on visiting.

  9. There will never be to many “make money online” blogs

  10. Nice to know Scott’s story. Inspiring.

  11. Pretty impessive resume the guy has so well worth a read.

  12. I believe “make money online” blogs have to come to an end at some point. After some degree, they are just copying eachother.

  13. Anyone who can make that much money is worth reading about :)

  14. Content sites are right up my street, I’ll be a regular reader.

  15. Rob

Awesome. Yet another quality site to add to my RSS reader and look forward to daily.

  16. I always love hearing success stories from the “good ole’ days”.

    Thanks.

  17. Ah, the site is looking good. I’ll be adding him to my regulars.

  18. *Anyone who can make that much money is worth reading about*
Perhaps ONLY people that can make that much money

  19. I love stories like this. Really gives me the motivation to keep on trying to come up with the next big thing.

  20. People want to hear from pro, and what most reader “define” pro is if they make lots of money from the internet. Even they are just writing and posting shit, people will love them.

  21. sounds good, hope he has some insightful info.

  22. I’ve read 3 reviews of Scott today so far. Lucky guy!

  23. Sounds like a good site to check out, but I’m just wondering why you went against your normal philosophy and actually advised AGAINST using his name for the domain.

  24. This is great, I am about to start monetize my blog. Maybe I can get a lot of ideas besides from this blog to this new blog especially on how to earn revenue from blogging. Thanks!

  25. I was excited to see such a great review. I chose to look at one post

    http://www.wrevenue.com/2007/10/02/negotiate-cpm-guarantees-with-kontera-and-vibrant-media/

and its far from high quality. its a paragraph long offering no real advice, or anything worth value.

Maybe your review should say 8 quality posts and 1 worthless one lol

  26. Looks like another quality blog to add to our list of daily blogs. Thanks for the heads up, John!

  27. Thanks for sharing a great success story. As a freshman he was making 100k and he was was just getting started. I added Scott’s blog to may favorites and will definitely keep an eye on it. For Scott’s first blogging attempt, W Revenue is off to a great start with high quality, informative content.

  28. Hey John,

I love to see more post like this where people do succeed through their online business.

Scott, keep up the great work and continue to inspire us.

    Cheers,
    Carlo Selorio

  30. Scott is a true inspiration. I’ve used ResellerRatings.com all the time.

  31. Scott’s blog has a lot of good information on it, I will be adding it to my RSS reader for sure.

  32. Wow. This guy must be a real entrepreneur compared to the others. I mean to sell a company a website and then re buying at pennies to remake it. Thats just awesome. Hats off. Will check out this dude. Seems like a good read.
