Driving with John Chow – Episode 14 Getting Ready To Get Ready

On this episode of Driving with John Chow, I talk about the Dot Com Lifestyle Meetup, losing weight with determination, duck liners, and people who are getting ready to get ready.

Are you the kind of person who likes to wait until everything is perfect before starting a new venture? I know many people like that and I’m sure you do as well. They hold off buying that house or stock because they think the market might go down. They hold off starting that new business because economy isn’t right. They hold off getting married because they need to save money for that big wedding. They hold off making money online because [insert whatever excuse you want].

Success comes to those who make opportunities happen. Success doesn’t come to those who wait for opportunities to happen. If you’re waiting for all your ducks to line up before going forward with making money on the Internet, you’re going to be waiting till the cows come home (that’s a long, long time). The frequency of those ducks lining up is about the same as the frequency of all the planets in the Solar System lining up. If I had waited until everything was right before starting my blog, I would still be waiting today.

Stop waiting around for conditions to be perfect before you do something. Stop getting ready to get ready. Just do it now. The perfect time will never come because the perfect time is now. The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be. Enjoy the episode, and I welcome your feedback.

You are absolutely right John Chow. Do the thing which is deemed best to do without prolonging the preparation. Time is gold and time could not be retrieved back. Trash off the idea of getting ready to get ready. The perfect time is now. I like your being optimistic in all sense. Thanks John, you inspire me of doing my thing right NOW.

Hi John, spot on as usual. People do wait and wait, and some never take the plunge.

Incidentally, the planets aligned on 5th May 2000. Here’s the NASA page: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/alignment.html

    All the best,

    1. John Chow says:

Ya, but only six of the planets aligned. Our solar system has nine planets. Well, eight, since Pluto has been demoted to a non planet. πŸ™‚

  7. Jeff says:

As far as losing weight goes, you are most likely taking in more calories than your are burning. Cut your daily caloric intake, and you’ll lose weight.

  8. “It’s not working because they’re not working” – AWESOME, John!

This is such simple, basic stuff, yet so many people just don’t get it. There’s never going to be an ideal set of circumstances with all the ‘ducks lined up’ (I love this metaphor!).

While it’s important to do your due diligence and to get an education, it’s going to do you no good unless you actually take ACTION on it. It doesn’t matter if things aren’t perfect, you just need to get things going.

We’re all learning all the time. Even people who are earning 6 or 7 figures are year are still learning, but the reason they’ve got to where they are is through taking action.

Alex Jeffreys calls people who spend a load of time being busy but not really doing anything, “busy fools” and this is so true. If something isn’t necessary to advance your business then it simply isn’t necessary. You need to take massive action or you really won’t get anywhere.

There is a saying: “Fortune (or, success) favours the bold”. In other words, “Have a go!” It’s the bold, action-takers who become successful, not the busy fools.

This blog post and video contain essential advice for anyone wanting to start or advance in their business or, indeed, whatever it is that they want to do. I hope that many people take this on board, but I fear that many will still end up being ‘duck liners’.

    1. John Chow says:

Awesome comment. Thanks! Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  9. yangding says:

We do not have to wait everything to be perfect. It is our job to make it perfect. As long as we have a chance to be succeed,we shall try,not just waiting.

  10. faisal says:

People getting to get ready, LOL

  11. Alex says:

    Thanx for the post

  12. Erwin says:

    Hi everyone,

you are absolutely right we must act now. The time is now not tomorrow or next month or year.

You may fail several times but you one step closer to success and when it comes you’ve made it but to do so act today.

    Thank you John.

    And see you on top.

  13. David Neff says:

I highly recommend giving “juicing” a try for your weight loss John. It really does work for overall good health and losing weight. Only downside is you go through a lot of fruits and vegetables, so it does require more trips to the market. I lost 8 pounds my first week of juicing by just replacing 1 meal a day with fresh juice. Your energy level also goes up.

Your advice in this video is priceless. I have one simple rule in life to live by….”DO THE WORK” I wish I would follow my own advice!!!!

  14. Good vid JC but I have to say spend more energy on exercising than dieting.

You can control your workouts easier than you can control the cookies.

70/30 working out is a good ratio.

You’re 100% right about people “getting ready to get ready” keeping themselves busy filling their time with foolishness.

  15. Georgena says:

Do it and get it done!

    That’s awesome πŸ™‚

  16. It is all about the power of intiative- doing it quick and doing it right.

Thanks for the great perspective John.

  17. jordan says:

which is really just fear. Good reminder when launching a new project. thanks!

  18. Ronald K says:

    Hey John,

These meetups look great, but so far! Any chance of one happening back in Vancouver BC? I’m new to the internet world, and will hopefully get to see you sometime if you back down in Van.

  19. Azmir Ismail says:

Ouch πŸ™‚ This post is so true and hits me close to home. Only these past few months, I realized this fact and went through the stuff I have instead of buying new ones. Thanks John.

  20. HTML Help says:

John, what you need is a scale which shows your body fat percentage as well. This way even if you do not lose weight you will know if your body fat percentage has decreased.

It’s likely that you have gained a little muscle and lost a little fat. Your weight has not changed, but your body composition has changed. Scales which can determine your body fat percentage would give you this useful info.

Good luck with the diet & exercise.

    1. Jeff says:

To properly get your percentage of BF, you would have to get measured via water tank. There are no “scales” out there that can properly measure body composition.

For any weight loss to occur, you simply must be in a caloric deficit, period.

      1. HTML Help says:

Of course, water tank is the most accurate measure. However, I doubt John will be wanting to install a water tank in his home for measuring his body fat. Those things take up a lot of space and are really meant for professional level testing.

Two years ago I purchased the Omron HBF-514C scale from Amazon and it does a very good job of giving info beyond simply weight.

I think the focus here with my suggestion is just to be able to generally compare changes in body composition over time and to do so in a way which is convenient enough to be done at home in less than a minute. Water tank doesn’t really work for this type of usage.
