Driving with John Chow – Episode 33 Joy of Not Working

Welcome to the 33rd episode of Driving with John Chow. Today, I fire up the Mercedes, fire down the top, and went for a drive to Costa Mesa. Along the way, I talked about the joy of not working.

I recalled the events from a few days ago when I decided to take the entire day off and spend it with my daughter. We went to the beach, we had lunch, we went ice skating, we went for dinner. It was great father daughter time. Throughout the entire non working day, I was still able to make over $7,000. Yes, I also tell you how I did that as well. Enjoy the episode and try not to work.

  2. Words of wisdom John. You don’t have to tell me twice. I’m definitely in pursuit of that goal. Love the videos by the way. Very motivational.

  3. I find your videos very inspiring, and I see what you are saying about not working. If you enjoy what you’re writing about, then it really doesn’t feel like work at all. This is why the dot com lifestyle is so appealing.

For me, “Not working” is only joyful when it proceeds “Working Hard”. I think most Americans are deceived in thinking that they’ll be happy when they retire and it seems that everyone is striving hard for that early retirement. I think that’s sad.

There is a tremendous joy in working and doing excellent work with sweat and contributing to the society as a whole using your talents and gifts. Financial freedom is nice, but there are so much more to life than to make financial freedom to be your life end goal. I hope people don’t enslave themselves to money and find meaning in life from other greater things.

Nice video by the way John. Looking forward to more.

Inspiring and even more so that you did it safely the whole time. Knowing how I drive, I probably would’ve caused at least one accident trying to talk to the camera while driving. 🙂

Could you do more research on the hidden millionaires and billionaires in the Vancouver area, like Yun Ye, who you wrote about back in 2006 who cashed out to over 9 figures? Most people with extreme rich prefer to hide in the shadows like a ghost in the machine.

I am sure with the influx of chinese mainlanders and hong kong people in the greater vancouver area, there is probably quite a few hidden multi-millionaires/billionaires around. A quick check on the listing of the fastest growing companies in the BC area shows to be gold & silver extraction companies, mostly owned by the Chinese. That is where the real money will be in my opinion. I read that the real estate market in the greater Vancouver area and the Toronto area has exploded due to the rich mainlanders. Lee Kai Shing brought the Hong Kong people back in the 80s. Who are the newer asian (eastern and southern) rich immigrants that are popping up in canada these days?

So true, when you do what you like, your not working.

  14. John,

When you aren’t working, it’s the best time to rejuvenate and bring up great ideas to implement when you finally do work. It’s a very great concept that should be promoted. Sadly, we all hustle too much to appreciate the genius of this concept.

  15. Hi! I am just following you for just couple of weeks. This video is really very inspiring for me. First of all, thank you.

I am just wondering . . . . The amount of money you earn (that you talking in your blog), Is that really from your blog? Or are you doing Niche Website Building?
