Evil Blog Contest – Win A Microsoft Zune

written by John Chow on April 5, 2007

The Ultimate Online Profit Model

Win a Microsoft Zune!

Some of you may recall the 30GB Microsoft Zune I won at the 2007 Affiliate Networking Dinner. Since winning the MP3 and video player, I have used it a grand total of zero hours. As a matter of fact, it’s still in the box. I figure since I don’t use it, I might as well give it away with another evil blog contest.

To enter the Win a Microsoft Zune contest, just make a post in your blog about it. Link to this blog’s home page using the anchor test “make money on the internet” and link to this blog post. Here’s an example of what I want.

John Chow dot Com, a blog that helps you make money on the internet, is giving away a Microsoft Zune. To enter, all you have to do is write about it. This is my entry. Now give me my Zune!

OK, that was a bad example but you get the idea. Add as much information as you want – just make sure you follow the linking rules. The post must be by itself and cannot be added to any other post. This contest is open to everyone. If you have blog, you can enter. It doesn’t matter where you are or what language your blog is in.

According to my TTZ Media price index, this prize is worth about $250.00 so it’s definitely worth entering.

After you complete your entry, send me an email with the URL to your post. Once I confirm the post meets the entry requirements, I’ll print out your email and add in to the draw bucket. At the end of this month, I’ll draw one name from the bucket and that blogger will be the proud owner of a brand new 30GB Microsoft Zune!

Enter now and Good luck!

great way to generate backlinks to you with the anchor text MAKE MONEY ONLINE.

My SEO instincts tell me this is awesome!

Everyday Weekender April 6, 2007 at 12:10 am

i think your SEO instincts are right… hey you wouldn’t happen to have a spidey sense too would ya?

Jeff Kee April 7, 2007 at 12:11 am

No if I had that I’d be jumping from building to building hanging onto thin white threads to save my ass.

thank god I don’t! :P

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:31 am

SEO Sense is tingling? :)

ilker April 20, 2007 at 3:41 pm

Whateva.. that Zune is mine!

Leftblank April 6, 2007 at 2:06 pm

When you’re starting to get SEO instincts it’s surely time to take a (long, very long) break from blogging mate ;)

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:41 pm

I disagree, that’s the time to get blogging more :)

Jeff Kee April 7, 2007 at 12:10 am

Eh. I get laid sometimes. It’s all good.

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:10 pm

The blogosphere is SEO crazy right now. I posted a list of good SEO related stuff today. John’s always up to something evil.

Kumiko April 5, 2007 at 10:13 pm

So you’re trying to get to the top of Google for “make money on the internet” as well? Gosh golly darn…pretty soon you won’t be able to a single search on Google without a link to JohnChow dot com popping up!!

Matt Jones April 6, 2007 at 5:03 am

Sooner or later Google will figure a way to crack down on this kind of thing… lets hope its not to late!

ilker April 6, 2007 at 5:19 am

Duh!

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:32 am

Apparently Google bombing didn’t die entirely :)

Alex April 6, 2007 at 6:09 am

It’s obviously hard to keep track of it…

Mark Laymon April 6, 2007 at 10:31 am

As long as you have the same anchor text on the page it is not google bombing

Alex April 6, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Interesting, I never heard that..

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:43 pm

I would still classify it as a Google bomb myself *shrug*

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:11 pm

Bombs away!

Alex April 6, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Mine field

Gath April 6, 2007 at 11:15 pm

It is only a google bomb if the page that the anchor links to has nothing to do with the anchor text.

Alex April 7, 2007 at 11:17 am

Like George Bush ranking #1 for the term ‘failure’

Michael Kwan April 24, 2007 at 6:37 pm

Well, I wouldn’t say that the two are unrelated…

My New Choice April 5, 2007 at 10:18 pm

John, great contest yet again. I’ve jumped in as my wife has said she wants one of these and it would save me from having to buy one.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:33 am

I’m happy with my Video ipod :)

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:12 pm

What he said.

My New Choice April 6, 2007 at 3:22 pm

We both have an ipod shuffle and haven’t been very happy with it, so I am hesitant to buy a video ipod. Although I will be getting a new ipod at a conference I am attending in May.

Adam Henningsen April 5, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Gosh John You’re so evil! But I will put up with it if it wins me a free Zune. You truly have such a huge advantage for getting search engine placement, because you have so many people working for you, for free or for a zune! Your potential on the internet just makes me go crazy.

ADam

My New Choice April 5, 2007 at 10:28 pm

The John Chow machine is quite impressive as he has built a large following and his readers understand the value of links from his site. I think John could give away just about anything and have a successful promotion.

Meanwhile I’ve been trying to give away a free version of TaxCut on my site and cannot get any interest from my readers. I’ve still got a lot to learn.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:34 am

You need to have a large audience before you start doing this sort of thing. Also, you need a good prize, I don’t think too many people are going to get excited about a copy of TaxCut….

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:13 pm

What about 10,000 free hours on AOL?

My New Choice April 6, 2007 at 3:24 pm

True but considering that my site is focused on personal finance, the prize is relevant to the content. I’m still learning so the next time I will do a better job.

Gath April 6, 2007 at 11:19 pm

My New Choice – How many people have you got coming to your blog? I think Dave is right, you need to have a large audience before many people enter. Also, even though John might get 100 entries, he has 4000 people signed up to rss – so that is only 2.5% take up rate.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:46 pm

I’m actually surprised this technique is working so well for him.

Matt608 April 8, 2007 at 2:17 pm

Why? its not very surprising really, infact its pretty ovbious!

David April 5, 2007 at 10:26 pm

wow…another contest…and…with that anchor text…more traffic for you!!! And…since you won the zune…not cost for you!! That is the way to do it!!!

TRBdigital April 5, 2007 at 10:26 pm

I can’t resist a chance to win a new gadget.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:47 pm

I can resist the temptation :)

Ed Lau April 5, 2007 at 10:43 pm

I’m not sure I even want a Zune…I mean, I have four iPods…

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:35 am

I’m with you ED, I barely use my ipod as it is :)

John Chow April 6, 2007 at 9:56 am

If you have four iPod, then you must have a Zune!

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:50 pm

I can’t support the evil empire! :) (Microsoft, not John Chow, he has my support!)

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:13 pm

Wait, wait…did you say FOUR iPods? WTF??? :???:

My New Choice April 6, 2007 at 3:25 pm

Ed, I think you need to give one away in your own contest.

Alex April 6, 2007 at 11:01 pm

One?? Give away all 4!

Greg Stratz April 5, 2007 at 10:44 pm

oh boy oh boy oh boy another evil  contest for us all….

Michael Kwan April 5, 2007 at 10:57 pm

Am I eligible?

John Chow April 5, 2007 at 11:07 pm

You can write a post about it but you won’t win.

ilker April 6, 2007 at 5:18 am

HAHAH!

Alex April 6, 2007 at 6:14 am

Why don’t you give the Zune to Michael? You’ll rise to the next level of evilness

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Conflict of interest maybe? :)

Alex April 6, 2007 at 11:02 pm

That’s why it would be so

Michael Kwan April 7, 2007 at 1:01 am

Evil!

Alex April 7, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Twisted

KennyP April 5, 2007 at 11:09 pm

This times I must win

Webmaster Labor April 5, 2007 at 11:50 pm

Straight up link pimpin’, I love it! :)

rich April 5, 2007 at 11:52 pm

gotta love these evil contests lol

Steve from Malaysia Love Agloco April 6, 2007 at 12:40 am

John Chow, you are so evil!

Therefore, you deserved to look like a devil
http://malaysian-agloco.blogspot.com/2007/04/john-chow-is-truly-evil.html

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:15 pm

That’s kinda scary, Steve.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:53 pm

Kinda scary? :o

Shawn Knight April 6, 2007 at 12:46 am

Is it just me, or is John losing his touch?? I mean, just look at the pic… he isn’t even smiling! Maybe he secretly wants to keep the Zune!

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:35 am

He looks pretty evil in that pic :)

Article Checker April 6, 2007 at 1:31 am

When I first read about the Zune project I knew right away Microsoft was up to something good.

Thomas April 6, 2007 at 4:42 am

Another excellent SEO example, so evil … this is developing into google world domination.

derrich April 6, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Google would never allow it to happen. They may be the only beings on this earth that are more evil than John. Maybe.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 2:55 pm

This isn’t really anything new when it comes to SEO, just good leverage of his existing traffic base.

However, he does it expertly, as I have said before :)

Matt Jones April 6, 2007 at 5:02 am

A $250 Zune that you don’t even use is a pretty small price to pay to go straight to the tip of Google for a competetive phrase… the rich get richer!

ilker April 6, 2007 at 5:04 am

EVIL! EVIL! EVIL!

Alex April 6, 2007 at 11:03 pm

EVILEST

Erik Karey April 6, 2007 at 5:25 am

Nice plan John, I had to enter. I don’t even want the Zune….you must have me under some EVIL spell.

Dave April 6, 2007 at 5:37 am

This is the evilness of John Chow….great contests that everyone wants to enter :) I wonder how long before he’s on page one for that term too :)

tek428 April 6, 2007 at 5:48 am

Thanks John, I am entered!!

http://www.bloggingwv.com

Alex Shalman April 6, 2007 at 5:55 am

Haha… John’s evil stare in that picture says it ALL!

Mubin April 6, 2007 at 5:57 am

2 questions.

1) can we enter if we are outside the US or Canada.
2) Can we enter with multiple blogs?
3) Can we have people post on our behalf on their blogs?

C’mon Johnny lets go!

John Chow April 6, 2007 at 9:59 am

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) You can have other post it but if their name gets drawn, you may have a problem with them.

And that was 3 questions.

Article Checker April 6, 2007 at 6:11 am

I wonder who’s going to win this time; the excitement is killing me!

Mubin April 6, 2007 at 10:27 am

John if we pay for the post, like on a paid bloggin g service would you consider the person who submitted the blog the winner or the owner of the blog?

hmmm.

Mubin April 6, 2007 at 10:38 am

If you didnt figure it out, I am considering something very very evil.
