First AllAdvantage, Now The Boo Is Back!
Come on everybody! Let’s all party like it’s 1999! First AllAdvantage comes back and now Boo.com is following right behind.
For those who were not around the first time, Boo.com was to be for cloths what Amazon.com was for books. They were one of the biggest flame out when the Internet crashed.
In 1999 Boo.com, a fashion retail site, burnt through $120 million in six months, in part because it’s call centre was situated in London’s fashionable Carnaby Street, as opposed to a cheaper location. The web site was also built by three different development teams spread across the globe, while it’s home page was notorious for its slow load time and use of - then less common - Flash.
Founded by Ernst Malmsten, Kajsa Leander and Patrik Hedelin, Boo.com’s largest backer was Omnia, a fund backed by members of Lebanon’s wealthy Hariri family, which put nearly $40 million into the company. Over 400 staff and contractors were made redundant when Boo went into receivership in May 2000.
According to Tech Crunch, John Collins did some digging into the domain name and found that it is registered to a “woman living in the leafy dublin suburb of ranelagh [in Ireland].”
I wonder if any other old Dot Com’s will be joining the party?

Reply to this commentRegarding boo.com, I have to tell you this. About a year or so ago, I was on a whole “web nostalgia” kick and I ended up at boo.com, and it looked exactly like it does right now.
So the coming soon page is nothing new.
I’m glad you posted it though, I like talking about this “ancient web history”.
Reply to this commentMan, that is just wrong!!! I just submitted a story to BuzzFlash.net and it dissappeared. Then an hour later i see someone else has submitted the same exact story. Let’s start our own digg/buzz site John and do it with integrity.
Reply to this commentIn one way I would say scary to see all that stuff coming back, but then again - if somebody gets burned it is their own fault. The smart people will watch from the outside and benefit from the fallout. Only those who ignore history, will repeat history and then get burried in history.

John, you are better plced with your reputation to lead this another social networking platform that can equal and even beat Digg’s record. Your ban is a blessing in disguise.
