I guess my ReviewMe Advertiser’s Case Studies post paid off. After reading how well the review worked for Aaron Wall of the SEO Book (aff), FloristOne has ordered up a ReviewMe review of their affiliate program.

When done properly, CPA (Cost Per Action) Affiliate marketing can be one of the most profitable blog revenue sources. The key is finding a targeted match for your niche. Now, you might ask what kind of site would be a good match for selling flowers? Believe it or not, the TTZ Hot Deals page sells quite a bit of flowers in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. And FloristOne happens to be one of the flower affiliates we deal with.

FloristOne’s biggest selling point as far as affiliate marketing goes is they pay more than any other florist affiliate programs. This is why we like to use them. Their affiliate commissions start at 22% and goes up to 25% based on the number of orders per month. This rate is 2.5 times higher than FTD.com’s highest commission rate. Unfortunately, TTZ can only sell flowers around Valentine’s and Mother’s Day. The rest of the time, we can’t even sell a stem.

Compared to non-flower affiliate programs, FloristOne’s commission structure is very high. About the only category that pays higher commissions would be ink toner refills and e-books. Here’s another interesting fact; TTZ Hot Deals sells more flowers than toner.

Most webmasters hate CPA because it puts all the risk on them and none on the advertisers. If the advertisers doesn’t sell anything, the webmaster makes no money but gave the advertiser free exposure. Having said that, I can tell you, if done correctly, CPA affiliate programs can be among your biggest moneymakers. TTZ Hot Deals is my most profitable page. It generates over $200,000 of product sales each month and nets enough that the eCPM works out to over $100.00. Try finding any advertiser willing to pay $100 CPM for an ad!

I’ve talked before about the important of the revenue mix, and not putting all your eggs in one basket, when it comes to maximizing blog income. Your blog should have a mixture of CPC, CPM and CPA advertising. I’ll do more posts in the future about the proper way to promote CPA. In the meantime, I have no problems recommending the FloristOne affiliate program. We’ve dealt with them before and they’re a nice bunch of people to work with. The fact that they offer the highest affiliate commissions in the flower industry is icing on the cake.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. Now would be a good time to sell some flowers. I still can’t believe we sell more flowers than toner.

Well John, with one toner you can print about 2000 valentine cards, I doubt you’ll manage to recycle your flowers that often ;)

Anyway, if you have a monthly income of $200.000 a month I understand you consider the income on John Chow pocket money…

I am sure he makes more than that! But I believe he means thats how much he sells not how much he gets?

Yeah, that $200k per month from one page on TTZ sounds like a pretty sweet deal. It sure makes it seem rather pathetic when I am excited that I have another click for $0.25 on my site. Lol.

200.000 product sales - that´s not revenue, even less profit. If he has 2-50% commission you should get an average and then check the revenue. I think it should be in the range from 15-20.000 $.

$100 eCPM? simply amazing, no wonder this blog is “pocket change”

Hi John, I really like the way you write your articles, but I think in this one you forgot to use one of your techniques. In every article you have at least one of these:
    list: http://www.johnchow.com/some-reviews-for-you-to-read-while-im-partying/
    image:
    http://www.johnchow.com/off-to-las-vegas/

    text from the origin:

    subtitles in bold:

That’s what I like a lot in your writing style, you try to break the monotony of reading.
Of course content is gold, but the way you present it too, isn’t?

I’ve never tried CPA on my flagship-blog before, i guess Valentine should be my first experience. Thanks for the heads up!

I’ve never had any success with CPA, probably because up until recently my understanding of running a profitable website was extremely limited. I may start looking for some affiliates to start selling products on my programming blog. Anyone have any good affiliates for programming/web development? Books through amazon pops into my head first, I guess I can scower the web for some e-book as well.

I was looking through this post and found it extremely helpful. I have read other posts where you talk about having someone design the graphical part of Tech Zone before but haven’t been on here enough to see if you also have someone or the same person do the coding for TechZone. Is this something that you or a staff works on. If so where do you get advice on who to chose for your outsourcing?

    John,

Good for you - you seem to have an innate ability to attract people to talk for them - be it via your blog or a ReviewMe !

Sometime back there was another option for bloggers called BlogKits which was also discussed by Jim on your blog - he do something like aggregating affiliate programs, is that right ?

I signed up for blogkits and have not yet made any money with them. I also signed up with a few affiliate programs on my own and those are paying out.

I’m not so sure about Amazon affiliate sales though… I’m begining to think that most people who go to Amazon already have accounts there and new Amazon users get their from a landing page owned by a big company…

    John,

Thanks for the review of our affiliate program.

Florist One has had a few different affiliate offerings. The newly launched Florist One affiliate program at: http://www.floristone.com/florist-one-affiliate-program.cfm is our flagship offering with the highest commissions. Since you have been a part of our other programs, please do sign up for this program to take advantage of our highest commissions.

Thanks for pointing out that non-flower related sites can also cash in on holidays likes Valentine’s Day and Mothers Day.

    Brian

I’m impressed–a market for computer products actually sells a lot of flowers.

Do you take part in any other mixed-market affiliate programs like this?

In a way, using a “mixture of CPC, CPM and CPA advertising” is similar to diversifying your portfolio. You wouldn’t put all your assents into one stock, the risk is too great. Interesting…I’ll have to do more research on the above advertising since we’re in the market to advertise.
