John Chow dot Com on Kindle

This is a follow up to my post about the Kindle Publishing for Blogs beta program that was launched by Amazon last Wednesday. I submitted my blog for consideration on the day the program launch. Amazon said that submissions would take 12 to 48 hours to get approved. I never received an approval email from Amazon but a search on the site today shows my blog is available for the Kindle.

Open To All Blogs

I initial reported that the Kindle Publishing for Blogs beta program was only open to US blogs. This is actually not correct. The program is open to blogs from anywhere in the world. However, if you wish to receive payment by wire transfer, then you must be US based. Non US publisher can tick off the check option and have Amazon mail you the payments.

I don’t expect too many people subscribe to my blog via the Kindle. I don’t subscribe to any blogs with my Kindle. My main reason for joining the publisher program was to get listed on one of the biggest websites in the world. The exposure can’t hurt.

Since it doesn’t cost anything to have your blog listed, I recommend everyone submit their blogs. All you have to do is make your blog RSS feed available to the Kindle Store and Amazon will format your content for the delivery on the Kindle via Amazon Whispernet. Once your blog is listed, readers will be able to subscribe to it and when they do, you make money. Subscription revenue will be divided 70/30, with 70% going to Amazon and 30% going to you.

Looks like a good idea. By any chance this submission will give us a backlink from Amazon? Would it be DoFollow? Who knows, we maybe lucky enough. I like to dream awake. Sometimes dreams come true.

I blogged about this on Saturday (link below). I don't expect to make any money from this, but as you mentioned, any exposure is good exposure. Getting your blog listed on Amazon is good for branding, I'm sure.

It definitely can't hurt to apply to get listed, especially on a site like Amazon. Keep us updated on if you see a huge increase in Kindle subscribers.

Great Idea, John. Now hunting for my credit card to purchase the Kindle!!!

Also you could promote it so that one has the opportunity to have whole year's worth of free John Chow Amazon subscription. Then you should mention - as a side note - that this grand prize will also come with free Kindle.

The only thing I noticed in the TOS is that your feed is not allowed to have advertisements.

It also must be a full feed RSS and be substantually similar to what is posted on your blog. But we all know full feed RSS is where its at anyways.

What's the difference between Amazon Kindle and Amazon affiliate program? I signed up for an Amazon a-store and promote products from amazon on my blog via widget, but didn't heard about Amazon kindle untill I found it on your blog. I'm going to try it out. Thanks for sharing this John!

Benjamin Cip’s last blog post: Join PayDotCom The New Affiliate Marketplace on the Net!

The affiliate program you get a commish from any sale people make from your links....the kindle is you getting a commish from anyone that subscribes to your blog via their Kindle app for a monthly fee.

Aman@BullsBattleBears’s last blog post: Simplified Sunday #18 - Short Selling Intro (Part 3)

I like the Kindle's strategy of finding new ways to produce content. Their bottom line is driven off content after all and this is another value proposition to buy it, interesting.

I also like your strategy John of finding new channels to publish YOUR content, why limit it to just the internet after all...

Good question. I get the strange feeling that they have nofollow though.

You think John really cares about it?

fas’s last blog post: How To Advertize Your Business Online

I don't believe anyone said that John cares about it.

I checked with my blog and they don't actually have any links to your blog. While in a way this will achieve additional exposure its not simple exposure with a link. Amazon has their store setup quite effectively to make sure you have to do a fair bit of work to find these blogs on the internet.
