Get NoFollow Removed On Your Comments!
written by John Chow
A while back, I made a comment that I was working on an evil plan to remove the nofollow tag on the comments. In order to increase community activity, many blogs has installed the DoFollow plugin, which removes the nofollow tag on all comments. This blog gets more than enough comments so I have no need for such a plugin. However, I think there are some users who would like to have nofollow removed from their comments and are willing to pay for it.
The Evil Plan
For $10 per month, I will remove the nofollow tag off your comments and the link on your name. Now you don’t have to get on the Top Commentators list in order to get a full link. When you sign up for this deal (for lack of a better name, it’s call WP FollowMe), your link will carry the same weight as the links in the blog post. With the nofollow removed, Google will follow the link and index your blog.
A site wide text link on this blog cost $240 a month. A post level link on one post cost $5 to $10 per month. For only $10 a month, you can comment to as many posts as you want and your link will be a full link without a nofollow tag. That is a great deal!
How Do I Sign Up?
To sign up for the WP FollowMe and have the nofollow tag removed from your comments, you need to register for this blog, then click on this PayPal link to pay the $10 subscription fee. The email used for registration should be the same as your Paypal email.
You must be logged in to subscribe to our nofollow removal service. If you don't have a user account, you will have to register first.
Once payment has been confirmed, nofollow will be turned off for your comments. Enjoy!
BTW - If you wish to buy the plugin that will allow you to do what I’m doing, it will cost you $30. Buy WP-FollowMe here. Sign up for the affiliate program too!

john, you’re all evil
it’s a great idea nevertheless
I think it’s a great idea, but I’m a little worried what it’s going to do the comments here.
I love this site, butt since the Top Commentators plugin started, the comments really started to get a little more spammy…like 5 of the first 6 comments in this post being from “Monetize your blog”
and now people are paying, there may just be a few more useless comments to get their money worth! Oh well, I’ll wait and see and may even buy in myself!!
Kumiko
That is a valid concern Kumiko, but the plugin was written so that the blog owner can limit the number of comments per day that have nofollow removed.
Hope this addresses your concern.
Yeah, Monetize Your Blog is completely useless in my opinion. Sure they might get the link from being on the top commentator’s list but what kind of reputation have they gained with John’s readers? If I’m any indication, not a good one.
This is funny. I had installed the “dofollow” plugin a while back, but once I hit that PR 6 I took it off so that it would stir up the competition on the top commentators section.
I hadn’t thought about individualizing the dofollow for people…outside of the box mentality yet again
Hey, I just noticed…no happy face icons to include
I knew John would do this! so i think i have his evilness too. let’s apply this to our blog
well, if you’re got a pr 5 or above site and a decent amount of readership, then it’s worth it
im sorry john, there is a line between evil and greed and you just crossed it.
I just tried to buy nofollow and payment doesn’t go directly to John. Any ideas how to do it???
i can see many following your footsteps and doing the same on their own blogs
I really dont think so.
John can get around those techniques for monetization because he has a large mass behind his back.
Drop on your blog kontera ads, blended adsense units, paid dofollow comments, and some sponsored links for “male enhancement” treatment and let me know what kind of traffic responsore you will get :).
you’re right
not everyone can do the same thing
Not to mention that would make even more paid links on your site which Google has stated they are targeting. Not a good idea unless you’re John Chow or have as large a readership.
like the Dofollow plugin!
This is probably a good idea if your sole aim is to make money, but a crap idea if you want to maintain a “community”.
I’m guessing we’ll see a surge in the number of comments from readers such as Increase your penis size without surgery and Make easy money without leaving your home.
Couldn’t you have said all the above in one comment?
will do my best from now on, john
At least until next month
I thot you will be looking at a min. no. of posts per person before the no-follow will be activated each month…..guess you r more evil than that…
Shall we see a “pay to view in future?”
I am about to write a critics view about you whn you started posting gems since the last week…lucky you! good luck with this evilness, me not coming in!
hey people this is a great deal, get a no-follow on, get some forum poster from digital point forums for 5$ per 100 comments, you are all done! ….15$ PR link…all month long!
Pay to view? Hmmmmmm.
oh no…..dont start thinking now!!!!
You know John, while I wouldn’t like to pay it, a “subscriptions only” section to this site might be yet another way you could rake in the dough.
He wouldn’t be a very good evil protégé if he put all of those sentences into one comment, now would he?
Kudos to you on your newfound level of evil with this idea, John!
makes sense
thanks for recognizing that.
by the way, it’s all john’s fault as he teaches us all to be evil
john, i think you will make enough money with the wp-followme plugin affiliate link alone
Testing?
Hm not showing up!
Ahh! It’s one of those individuals who types one word at a time on instant messenger. *runs*
And John you truely are an evil marketing genius.
John thats evil. But still I am not satisfied with your idea, as jane said.. It would stir a competetion like before..
that’s exactly what john wanted

hmmm,more foreign link love
ok John I dont have paypal in my country? Pakistan
How about i pay you through Credit Card or through MoneyBookers?
Now if you say “sorry” that would be evil
Sorry, the plugin takes PayPal only.
Evil is what Evil does
John one question about your top commentators settings. Is this set so that all comments are counted or only those for a certain range of time, e.g. one month?
It list the top members wit the most comment in the past five days.
In the last five days?
How does someone rack up 106 posts in five days
They have no life?
Honestly
we don’t have a life
*cough* spam! *cough cough*
great question SEO Expert
How about a 1 time fee for for life?
After the month is up will all links go back to no-follow?
the last is a good question. Will the links go back to nofollow ( this would be really evil ) or stay dofollow ?
Yah. Losing your links is really not cool. I’m guessing Mr. Evil wouldn’t let you keep all those hard earned links for free.
I checked out the specifics of the plugin and it looks like all links will go to no_follow if you unsubscribe. The current plugin will leave all links posted in the comments as ‘follow’ only because the code hasn’t been written yet. That will be fixed in the next revision.
Here’s the link to check it out for yourself. ( http://www.wp-followme.com/frequently-asked-questions/)
I guess it would be a bad idea to be dependent on links you have to pay $10/mo for. Next month it may be $20/mo. Who knows how high the price could rise.
i agree with the price thing
but to be honest, $10 a month isn’t much for site of this pedigree
up is the only way
Links left in the comment will continue to be dofollow if the user unsubscribe. However, the link on the username will revert back to nofollow due to the way WordPress manages this.
I think there was a post about this subject about a month ago. Look it up; it could give you a few more things to ponder on.
John you’re evil
But I think the price is too low, you’ll get flooded of useless comments. Anyway I’ll surely subscribe !
