How would you like to put John Chow dot Com on your blog? I have just added the ability for readers to put a John Chow dot Com Widget on their blog’s sidebars using a new tool from Widgetbox, called Blidgets.

The Blidget is a Widget that will display the latest John Chow dot Com posts on your blog. This can be very useful for blogs that don’t update often, but want to offer something for their readers to read. You can see this Widget in action at Sally’s blog.

You can grab the John Chow dot Com widget here, or by clicking on the image at the bottom of this post. Installation is very easy.

If you use the Widget, please let me know in the comments. I would love to hear your experience and see how it looks on your blog. I may even write about you. :)

I know eh? If it looked crappy i would have taken it off, trust me :P

    My review of it :

I think it looks great, and makes my sidebar look a lot more dynamic than it would be without it. it adds another dimension to it from both a visual perspective and functional perspective.

    And it’s easy to install.

I doubt you’d say it if you didn’t like it ;) Smart promotional move though, perhaps some people will add it, which will give you some nice links/referrals back, I suppose. I’m not adding it myself though, my sidebar is already way full ;)

John mentioned something about advancing technology in another post (how do you copy + paste with that… something like that). I’d imagine that in the world that Sally will grow up in, blogging will become just as much a part of everyday life as using a telephone.

It’s a simple numbers game, 90% of us won’t do it. But that leaves 10% who will. Compare the effort required to put this together with the payoff of having it on those 10%.

It’s about numbers, volume and percentages. It’s a great idea even though I won’t be installing it myself.

My only suggestion would be this :

if i could control the number of posts.. or in other words, the height of the widget that would be great. Of course this isn’t up to John, it’s up to that widgets site.

The reason isn’t because I don’t want to display John’s posts so much, but only because the sidebars get really long sometimes that’s all… I think I have enough shit on it as it is. if I can cut it to the top 5 i would be perfect!

Precisely my point up there! It looks cool. I like it on my blog.

I’ve replaced this with my Technorati Favorites Iframe block. If anybody has seen it, they’ll understand why I put John’s thing over that. It looks so much nicer than the Technorati piece.

It’s another part of the whole social networking thing that supposed to go with blogging. Blogging is slowly becoming (has already become?) less of an individual experience and more of a group effort… so to speak.

I think I’m on board with the rest of the folks commenting here. I like the idea of this type of blidget. The guys at widgetbox did some great work with this one.

I decided to throw it up on my sports related blog. Reason for this…it might give the readers something relatively unrelated to read. Sports fans really do need to take a breather every now and again :)

Perhaps I’m the only sports blog to add a John Chow blidget!

I love the idea John. I’m going to wait though. I suspect that you may need to toss some incentives in to get a broader uptake. Since you’re really good at creative incentives, I’m holding out ;)

if any incentive is given, I should get double the prize! Why? Cause I was the first to install it off this post.. other than Sally, who already had it installed by John before he posted this.

What makes you so sure Sally didn’t install it herself? She is being raised by a dot com mogul, after all ;)

But yes, I agree, incentives would make for greater up-take, just like getting us to add you to our Technorati favorites and so forth.

    John,

Thank you for the info re blidget. I checked it out briefly in the morning and then installed it on my Baby Boomers Blog before I went out for Dim Sum with my wife Juliana.

Now, I have two blidgets on the Baby Boomers Blog sidebar. They look cool and match the overall color theme of my blog.

Again, take this opportunity to thank you for the very nice info. By the way, I have joined your readers community.

    Best regards.
