Getting Free Stuff at Blog World Expo 2010

written by John Chow on October 16, 2010

How to make $593 in less than one hour

The Blog World show floor is filled with vendors trying to get you to their booth by giving away free stuff like branded pens and T-shirts. However, small trinkets like that don’t interest myself or Syed Balkhi. Instead of being like the average Blog World attendees jumping over themselves for a free T-shirt, we decided to see what kind a free stuff a superstar blogger can get.

I don’t recommend you try the stuff we did in the video. While it may work for me, I doubt it will work for you. But keep at it and one day soon, you too will be able to walk up to Seagate or Kodak and watch away with more than just a T-shirt or pen.

Free stuff from Blog World Expo

I hope John gives away some of the stuff to his readers ;)

PPC Ian October 17, 2010 at 7:27 pm

That would be awesome! That definitely is some great free stuff! :-) I’m usually happy if I just get a free t-shirt.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:29 am

These all things were quite useful as well for bloggers like us.

So whenever we will use that we will give thanks to them.

CPALead Money October 16, 2010 at 5:17 pm

That’s awesome! Loads of freebies! and all you had to do was mention your name…

d3so October 17, 2010 at 9:52 am

It funny how they were reluctant to give him anything at first.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:30 am

Today’s Lesson –

John your name is more important than your face.

Abhik October 18, 2010 at 4:31 am

That type of freebies just for enrolling is great!!

Brian P October 16, 2010 at 5:18 pm

I love how you name dropped and you got the camera. LOL

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:33 am

And I surprised to see that they did not recognise John at first.

After all this was blog expo …

CPALead Money October 16, 2010 at 5:31 pm

@ Brian P I love it when they said “THE John Chow!” lol.

That strategic name dropping paid off though, $500 worth of stuff aint bad…

d3so October 17, 2010 at 9:58 am

lol next year, someone will probably try to impersonate him.

Jack Bennett October 16, 2010 at 5:32 pm

Not bad :) The benefits of having a significant platform. They know that when you mention what free stuff you received, it will go out to a large audience.

Kelly October 16, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Sweet! Wish I could be there – I’d love to get a little bit o’ swag.

d3so October 17, 2010 at 9:59 am

Yeah, me 2. I didn’t know you could come up with free stuff to cover the ticket price.

Make Money Online October 16, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Well considering a blog review or post on John Chow is like 400 bucks, and they gave away around 500 dollars of goods…

hmmmmmmmmm

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:42 am

Dan Lew October 17, 2010 at 5:25 am

John Chow October 17, 2010 at 8:36 pm

If I mention your name, they would have call the cops and have me arrested.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:22 am

This is the reward …

Madav October 17, 2010 at 11:12 am

Hi,

Wow it looks great.I hope I can make it in next year expo.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:49 am

Let me clear one thing .. he got the free stuff because he was John chow … so if you are going at there by looking at free stuff … than think about it again.

Even they refused to give camera first.

learnersreference com October 17, 2010 at 1:11 pm

interesting free stuff…cool john

Rajnish October 17, 2010 at 3:13 pm

As my internet connection speed is slow so I am unable to watch the video but in comments people said you got camera and other stuffs.
So I am happy for that and I also wish to be there next year, maybe.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 5:37 am

Video is in HD by default … minimise that to 320 and I am sure video will download much faster.

chris October 17, 2010 at 3:43 pm

wow thats some serious free stuff you got there. love it when the guy goes ‘the’ john chow?? I’ve never had anyone put ‘the’ in front of my name before. lol

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 5:40 am

Yes that was the best part …

Now our John Chow is no more John Chow …

He is THE JOHN CHOW

Michael October 17, 2010 at 5:17 pm

“Hi, I’m John Chow. Can I have a camera?”
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Benjamin October 17, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Not to rain on anyones parade but getting merchandise for free is nothing hard…. you don’t even need to go to these kind of events. A few minutes research to find the corporate e-mail of someone in PR and then you shoot of a well designed e-mail request a evaluation or promotional unit of the item you want and I would say 90% of the time to company will send it to you.

John Chow October 17, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Speaking from experience, my only reply is to try it and see for yourself. :)

PR people are not dumb. If they can get a ROI from you, they will give send it. If not, no amount of begging will get it.

Benjamin October 17, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I can agree there has to be a ROI involved….. you cannot just be anyone to do this….. you have to give something in return like tell them you will review the product or that you will tell lots of people about it.

Rajnish October 18, 2010 at 4:14 am

You are absolutely correct nothing is free in this world, and people who think they can earn without investment and dumb, in my views.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 4:26 am

THE JOHN CHOW …

Thats really impressive.

Abhik October 18, 2010 at 4:27 am

Man..
Now there are more reasons I’d like to attend a BWE.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 18, 2010 at 5:41 am

So Abhik … when you are going to there …

Kobe Dada ?

Canadian Coupons October 18, 2010 at 9:58 am

John,

How much is it to attend? Is it valuable if you are not YET a blogging superstar!

John Chow October 18, 2010 at 10:37 am

A full access pass cost $1195. A weekend pass cost $495 and Exhibits Only Pass cost $50.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog October 19, 2010 at 12:19 am

If you are not a blogging star than you will be able to get T Shirts, pens and other small stationeries but if you are THE JOHN CHOW … than who knows ipad will be yours.

humpadang October 19, 2010 at 3:39 am

Syed Balkhi October 19, 2010 at 9:53 am

Haha John, that was fun. Did you try the Seagate thing yet? I got home late last night, but I will be giving it a shot later today.

John Chow October 19, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Ya I got it to work. I had to install the software to get it working however. The drive was designed for PCs and not Macs.

graphing calculator October 19, 2010 at 8:23 pm
