Getting Started with AdSense Video Units
Google has released a video on their new YouTube AdSense Video Units. I wrote about Google turning YouTube into a cash cow in my September 28 post but haven’t heard anything new until now.
This launching of video units is perfect timing for Google because we’re headed right into the busiest time for Internet advertising. By releasing video units now (or in the next few days) Google is well position to take advantage of the holiday shopping rush that will officially begin on Black Friday.
I checked my AdSense control panel but so far the video unit is not in there. I’m sure Google will be announcing the official launch any day now and we’ll see the new units real soon. In the mean time, you can whet your appetite with this video.

It’ll be interesting to see how much money can be made with Adsense video units. We already see video ads from time to time (paid per 1000 impressions, I believe), so I wonder if this separation will prove to be more (or less) lucrative.
By the way, it’s “whet” your appetite, not “wet”.
Reply to this commentIt is definitively a feature that I am going to give it a try to. And i have a site which works best with adsense ads (but is not much into videos related), I just need to wait until they activate the video ad units on adsense account too.
Reply to this commentI think you have to be based in the US to use these don’t you?
Reply to this commentThere are some kinks in the Video Units:
1. You cannot change layout when editing the player.
Reply to this comment2. The videos are from selected YouTube directors only.
3. Because it is javascript code, you may not be able to embed the player inside a Wordpress post without hacking or tweaking your Wordpress install.
Interesting time ahead by the looks of things.
Reply to this commentRead about this over at Digital Point. It’s strange, some are reporting that they are unable to create the video units, while others (including me) are having no problems. I’m eager to experiment with a unit to see what it yields CTR wise. The video unit itself includes a Half banner at the top, and towards the bottom of the video there is a transparent banner that also displays some ads.
Reply to this commentGood luck you are the One for beta testers :p
Reply to this commentI wonder if Yahoo will release something similar with their Publisher Network.
Reply to this commentwell the better, they dont even have image ads up yet. what gives?
Reply to this commentThey are lazy. It takes yahoo a looong time to do something, and when they finally do it, it’s buggy and useless
Reply to this commenti feel yahoo is always 2 steps behind adsense
they need to get their act right if they want to make a major player like adsense
Reply to this commentI don’t think Yahoo will do the same. Google always think for the “future” and that’s why Google bought Youtube. But Yahoo “trie” to make the samething buying other big dot com sites but always focussing in showing more ads and not being unique in ideas.
Reply to this commentI was just able to get it in my account this evening. Its pretty cool, but we’ll see how well it does.
Reply to this commentdamn I wish I could see video units on my adsense account - maybe google is still watching me - BAH!
Reply to this commentyou must be a US publisher dude
Reply to this commentthis would be cool for my site but too bad i am banned from google adsense.
Reply to this commentTight! I am going to have to use this!
Reply to this commentThis is awesome!!!
I can’t wait to use the video units for adsense. It will definitely be a huge benefit for everyone.
Cheers,

Looks like you’re going to have to move to the US to try them out John.
Reply to this commentAny chance we are going to be seeing those units on this blog? Or are you through with Google forever?
Reply to this commentThe units are available in my account, I just put one on my site. It’s pretty cool! Here’s where you can find the unit:

Reply to this commenth courtney. yeah i saw the video embed in your page. i might say the colors are very striking, it caught my eye immediately
for my blog i would prefer if the players was fluid and sleek in design plus not taking up much of a space. the video borders are quite ‘thick’
Reply to this commentdamn! Its only for the US only!
No wonder they gave me a * only for US residents for video units.. Its the same as how the adsense mobile works, not for some area..
Reply to this commenthi etienne! fancy meeting you here. sha from money maker
yeah like you i was expecting to use the video unit too but i guess they’re still testing it out, allowing usa publisher only
Reply to this commentDid anyone else find adding the code to WordPress was a pain in the ass? Using the regular code button (the one beside the visual editor) it kept changing the divs to ps, then unchecking the show visual editor button, it added a p in after the div and before the script resulting in not showing the video at all either way.
I finally got it using the code button by changing it back to divs and changing the single quotes to double quotes. Man, what a pain in the ass. Someone needs to create a widget
Reply to this commentIt doesnt work with the mightyadsense plugin. I dont understand what you did to change it. I thought you werent allowed to edit googles code?
Reply to this commentIn the end I didn’t exactly change anything, just the single quotes to double quotes.
Reply to this commentThanks, that fixed it for me!
Reply to this commentscientifically proven that visitors’ attention span is lengthened when your site has videos!
That’s a great way to increase your Adsense Earnings, that is, if you are in the US of A.
Reply to this commentits not available for adsense publisher outside of US currently bummer
but the news got me excited and i can’t wait to use it on my blog(s)
Reply to this commentThere will come a day when I will release an awesome product, and make it available everywhere except US. So that they know what it’s like !
Reply to this commentI tried it out and it didn’t fit into my current design to well. I can’t really see myself using it to much, and I feel they should be able to make it at least a 300×300 instead of the bulky player they have now.
Reply to this commentI’ve got a video unit up if you want to check it out. They seem to be releasing them on certain accounts only I guess. Anyway, check this out…Adsense Video Units in action
Reply to this commentThese look like an interesting new option from Adsense and YouTube. May wait to hear what sorts of results others get before trying it out myself..
Reply to this commentI am extremely disappointed. All that effort for nothing. I can built my own “Google Adsense” Player by creating a play list and adding an ad over it. Voilà .. DONE!
And I thought the ads are going be within the player…
I am running a movie site and we show trailers mostly from Youtube and I thought we could use Google Adsense Video to drive some extra cash…
Here is one of our film info pages with trailer:

I could just add an ad over it and would have something better than what they provide!
Reply to this commentYes, absolutely brilliant timing for the launch. From all accounts, it would appear that the direction is now clear and we can see some fierce action.
Reply to this commentToo bad it is not available for non-US adsense publishers. Hopefully it will be soon so we can all test it out and earn some money
!
Reply to this commentI have a major issue with tracking. It just says “video units” so you can’t track individual sites. They need to fix that
Reply to this commentIt’s for US publishers only.
Reply to this commentI don’t see myself using them that much, considering how low a CPC the image ads are.
Reply to this commentI wonder how Google will react to Blinkx AdHoc’s video ads http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/09/blinkx-adhoc-lets-publishers-monetize-your-embedded-videos-too/#comment-1668207
Reply to this commentDoes anyone have any reports about how much they are bringing in with the video units? Perhaps reports compared to regular ads?
Reply to this commentI don’t think you can compare them. It’s up to the advertisers
Reply to this commentit is only for US websites
Reply to this commentThis seems like it will be an interesting trend….but I wonder how it will effect the service on Youtube? I hope their servers are ready for it…..
Reply to this commentHey john, while youre waiting for youtube adsense, use blinx, as i did to overlay google’s promotional video.
Reply to this commentIt’s just another reminder that we should have invested in Google from the start. now at $600
