Getting Wet At Niagara Falls

written by John Chow on August 25th, 2008

The last time I was at Niagara Falls, it was cold and cloudy and that prevented me from taking a boat ride to the base of the falls to experience what it’s like to get really really wet. However, there were no such problems today. The weather was hot and sunny. Although you wouldn’t know that when there’s a gigantic mist of water pouring over you.

The Maid of The Mist has operated at Niagara since 1846, giving tourists a close up look of the falls and a good soaking. The boat ride is one of the most popular things to do at Niagara and now I understand why. It’s a lot of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Niagara Falls.

Here’s a video of the boat ride and a few photos of the falls, including a night shot. Niagara Falls is lit up at night with some very colorful lights. There’s also a fireworks show at 10PM. I may post the fireworks video later.

Going to Niagara falls is a one of my short-term goals as well. Seeing the power of nature shaping the rocks must have been truly an unforgetable experience.
Niagara falls will be there far longer than we will be in this world..

No, I didn’t get a chance to. We didn’t show up at Niagara Falls until 6PM.

For those who have never been, the Canadian side of the falls is the place to go. Niagara was our family vacation last year and was the highlight of our trip. A short jaunt to Fort Niagara was great too!

I love Niagara Falls! I went there about seven years ago during Tulip Festival in May. There were thousands of tulips around Niagara Falls in every color. Maid of the Mist was probably my favorite thing that you can do there. It looks like you guys had fun.

I love this kind of posts, John. I particularly loved the photo with your son. Of course, the photos of the falls are amazing too, but the video and the photos give it a very personal sense. Good stuff. See you when I get back to Vancouver. All the best!

That’s nothing compared to the Niagara Jet Boat ride. Definitely not for little kids. It’s quite humbling to know that if you jumped into the water at one point you’d be sucked into the whirlpool and not pop back out for a couple weeks.

I see you got on the smurf boat, like Yaro. Niagra falls looks awesome… I can’t wait until I go.

I don’t understand the parkas though, it seems you still get soaked. :)
