I beleive Google is getting desperate because I know a lot of people are leaviong Google due to lower eCPMs and etc. This will actually get people to stay with Google, and I agree this is a very smart move for Google.

That’s why Google did it - to earn more of course - and it will in turn help increase publisher’s earnings with more ad variety. At least everyone hopes it increases their earnings.
