House Shopping at Whitby Estates
Readers who were following me on Twitter today knew that I went house shopping in West Vancouver’s Whitby Estates. The Estates are located on a heavily sloped mountainside that offer spectacular panoramic city and ocean views. While touring one of the homes, I took a TwitPic of the view with my iPhone and got a bunch of replies back asking for more information on it.
The house in question is located at 2415 Hudson Court. It has 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 7,000 square feet of living space and sits on an one acre lot. The house came on the market six months ago with an asking price of $5.95 million. That was before the world hit a financial wall. The current asking price is $3.48 million, which sounds like a steal for a 7,000 square house on an one acre lot on Whitby Estates. However, with the way the market is going, you never know.
At $3.48 million, I’m pretty sure the builder is losing money and is trying to get out. The landscaping is not done and it’ll be up to the new owner to finish it. You care to take a guess at how much it cost to professional landscape one acre of land? The answer is in the video.

Reply to this comment7,000 sq. feet? Tony Soprano’s house was only 6,000… nice going, John! lol
Reply to this commentI wouldn’t let the current condition of the housing market concern you, unless you don’t plan on living there for that long. 5 - 10 years and you will probably double your money if you decide to sell.
Reply to this commentMy god - what a house and what a view!!! I wonder how much lower it could go with the current market conditions!!!
Reply to this commentWow this house is awesome. Can you seriously afford this place John? Are you going to buy it? This would be an awesome place to live and work and continue your blog….have fun house hunting

Reply to this commentIts not hard to make money online. I’m looking to make millions in the next few years. I have been reading this blog for 6 months. Asking my self, how do i make 30,000$ per month. I lost some money, like buying websites. Before success, there is failure.
Go make some money.
Reply to this commentYou can do it too. Work hard!
Reply to this commentnice location…wow very expensive…….
Reply to this commentYou have demonstrated the Blogging lifestyle before but this newest post is the most telling of the success that can be accomplished. Congratulations.
Reply to this commentSo John, when my other site starts rocking do you have a guest room in that house? I can see us now, sitting on your deck at night, looking over the city and sucking back some paralyzers (brown cows for you) and if you can get that place for 2 million less then normally, you would be crazy not to John.Heck in 5 to 10 years when the market is back to normal you can retire just off the profits. That’s kind of sick when you think about it.
All you need now is another baby right and your set!!!!
Reply to this commentIt’s a buyer’s market, especially for higher-end homes like these. Snatch it up and rent it out to international millionaires when they visit for 2010.
Reply to this commentThis is amazing house John.

Its not his house, and i dont think he is planning on buying it
Reply to this comment@Colin : You think it’s a paid placement to get the house sold for $3mil before the market goes further south here in Canada?
I think it’s a lovely place and that it would be a great investment in the very long term (3-5 years)
Reply to this commentHow you think so?
Reply to this commentWow, thats nice and beautiful house. Have you buy it?
Reply to this commentVery nice pictures! Wonderful.
Reply to this commentThat house is absolutely gorgeous! I would definitely get myself a house like that someday soon.. complemented by a Ferrari or a Hummer. *drools* And maybe also with an entire fleet of exotic cars.

Reply to this commentpost it when you buy it, just add half of mil more in landscaping and a Pagani Zonda in garage, and that would be really cool!

Reply to this commentSweet pics!
$1.5MM shaved off the asking price in 6 months? Crazy times.
Reply to this commentThey sure knocked off a lot. Question for you John, how many will be living with you in the house? It’s quite large.
The views are magnificent! My goal is to purchase a house like that in 2 years.
Reply to this commentViews = great.
Lot = spectacular.
Exterior = very nice.
Interior = poor! what were they thinking? That kitchen is disappointing and not really up to the price point of the home. Ditto the great room.
Reply to this commentWow what a sweet house. I wish I could have one of those
Reply to this commentNice estate John! And by the way it is a nice investment for your future.

Reply to this commentAll that work is finally paying off!! Keep it up!
Reply to this commentWith those beautiful views from the house, I would say that $3 million is a steal for that setup. The last two photos are breathtaking.
Reply to this commentSo when are you putting in your offer John?
Reply to this commentthat is SOME HOUSE! i don’t usually get house envy (or, as we call it in manhattan, apartment envy) but that place sure set me thinking of a different kind of lifestyle.
best of luck to you and your family, john, in finding exactly the right place to live.

Reply to this commentJohn,
Sally would sure enjoy spreading her toys all over that house? If you buy it, I would landscape it for you for a lot less money!

Nice house, no doubt about it. However if you are not in a hurry wait a couple of months and you will get it for half the current price.
Reply to this commentAbsolutely beautiful, but that price might still drop!
