How I Blog Around World – My Mobile Blogging Gears

written by John Chow on April 3, 2009

How one lazy bum made $176,697.50

One of the greatest benefit of making money by blogging is you can do it from anywhere in the world. I’ve received numerous emails and comments asking what equipment I am using to run my Internet empire while on the road. Generally, when I take a weekend trip, or any North American trip that takes less than a week, I just pack along the MacBook Air, Flip Mino and Canon digital camera. However, on international trips, the list of equipment grows considerably.

In the video below, I show all the gadgets I packed into my laptop bag when preparing for an extended trip. These gadgets allow me to blog and run my business from anywhere in the world. As long as where ever I am has internet access, I can get online and make money. The next time you decide to pack up and fly to China, make you’re packing some of the stuff on my list. If you have any questions about the equipment I use, please post them in the comments and I will answer them.

Hi,
Every new thing which we want to do in our cell we can do and we can give it code for security.

Great video. I love the 'this is my global empire in a bag' concept!

So John what is the cost of your bag if you put everything into that.

You do not have the back up for your mobile or iPhone.

Awesome equipment!! Just wondering like some of the others, what is it that you use to edit your videos?

Awesome insight in your personal life John Chow! You never hesitate to give personal details. Its make us closer to you.

However, I would carry Chinese Nan Chukkis for safety. Like the one Bruce Lee had -zip zip zip sash !

John, instead of blogging or bringing your blogging gear with you on long trips, why not just let your blog SIT HERE with no updates and see what happens :)

-Mike

What is the power adaptor you are using and where did you get it? I looked at the powersquid website and they don't carry something like that (theirs are much larger). Something like you have is exactly what i would like for travel.

Thanks John for accepting my request and posting a blog within three days after I sent the request to you in the form of a blog comment. It is amazing.

I also travel a lot internationally and I carry every thing you showed, but one piece each only (Without back-up for my laptop, camera, vedio recorder). I don't blog, but slowly getting pulled towards that after seeing your excellent tips and the way you blog.

On a lighter side, looking forward to receiving a small gift from you, since my idea (Possibly along with others) has given you an opportunity to write a very good blog and generated 59 comments to you. Not sure about the additional monetary gains :-)

Some of your customers might not be good writers but must be having good ideas on the blog topics. They can give you tips on those good topics and you can convert them into good blog articles. How does it sound ? In return , I am sure with your experience, you know how to encash this idea and make more money online and also benefit your customers who are sharing those ideas with you.

Not sure if it is your server problem or some thing else, the moment I open your web page, my laptop goes into hanging mode. It comes back after five minutes. Even the vedios are very very slow. I am sure with this feedback you will be on the look out to fix this problem at the earliest.

Wish you a safe return back.

I loved my Flip, but I sold it when I didn't use it anymore. I kind of miss though.

Great gadgets. That mouse is wicked. First time I've seen that version. I really liked the portable router also. I'm going to get one of those. I have Linksys, but that seems better. And one of these days, I'll get a MacBook Air as well.

While you're in China, think you can find me Investors there for my inventions- like a FLYING CAR maybe?

Those are Flip Minos, not Flip Mino HD's right? How come you're not going HD?

Flip mino is awesome! Thanks John for sharing your equipment, that's interesting to know the insights :)

Wow! You carry these many gadgets while traveling? You can probably do away with half of those, Flip might be good, but you can get similar/better resolution video with Canon SX10IS and that would also do away with the S3IS. Throw in couple of 16GB SD cards and spare batteries and you have enough juice to cover any event/day trip.

Now I hope I wing the Flip, didn't know it was that good. I'm a PC though. It would be a hard switch to go Mac.

John this was great. A useful video. I got to get some of the gadgets. I have no question on the gear.

I always see you online on Gmail. You even reply within 10 minutes. The above video explains to me how you do all that. Mobile Blogging.

If you are using Flip mino for your video, I must say they are clear. I thought the quality might not be good. Now that I see your recording cool videos with it. I might get one myself.

Very cool video, John. What if you put together a JohnChow Branded International Travel Package in several levels - Platinum, with MacBookPro, 3 cameras, all gear; Silver MacAir, flip and minidigital camera, and the Basic that is just all the 'supporting' gear. If you could get a volume deal and pass on a bit of it to your readers it would sell like wildfire.
I hope the trip is awesome - Diane (whom you met at a Dot Com Pho) is in Bejing all next week, I'm forwarding this to her too - maybe she can pick some things up there! I'll do some additional research and turn my readers on to your tips too - many are international travelers.

Wow John, this is awesome, I'm truely inspired by you and your blog, maybe one day when i achieve such greatness I will be able to join you on you travelings :)!

Well one day I hope to own one flip mino. I looks so sleek.

I think using i prefer net book rather then mac book. Its slim and low weight. And john please do something with your sever.

I think your blog in running really slow.

Youngistaan Blog’s last blog post: Hope You Like This.

A netbook is great for blogging but it's not powerful enough to process videos. Well, it can but it's painfully slow!

Just get Nokia E75 and make your films and download them directly from the phone.

Jake Stone’s last blog post: Barriers to travel

Download videos without any editing? Not a chance! You want your videos to look at least somewhat professional.

Btw, John, what did you use to edit your videos? They look pretty professional.

Neither. Nokia handsets are the most popular.

Have you had any problems with blocked websites since you have been in China. I hear that they restrict a lot of sites.

Not as bad as the last time I was here. Currently, only Youtube is blocked.

John,

Do you have invisible shield on your laptops? They're shiny.

Yes, I do. The work great.

I have the invisibleSHIELD on my MacBook and helped John get his on his MBP too. Check out the review here: http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/reviews/invisibleshie...
