How I Look If I Was Made of Food

written by John Chow on July 12, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

According to Life Goggles, my blog has over 240 photos of food! I know I love to eat but I didn’t know I’ve taken that many food pics. There are lots of things you can do with pictures of food. Life Googles thought it would be cool to turn all my food photo into a mosaic of me enjoying my food.

Click on the above image to see the hi-res image. The mosaic was created using Andrea Mosaic, a freeware program that lets you create your own photographic mosaics made with your own pictures.

Now watch everyone mosaic famous bloggers to get a plug.

Nice! Here’s a web-based mosaic generator that you don’t have to download…

Thanks for the link, CW. I just downloaded the AndreaMosaic thing, it didn’t take a long time. I guess I’ll have to try both of them out.

website copywriter July 13, 2007 at 3:10 am

Just tried out that link you suggested. It’s great and all, but all you can do is pick the matrix and the program provides all the tiled pictures for it. With AndreaMosaic, you can use your own pictures for the tiles.

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 12:38 pm

That’s the one I tried. I liked it.

Swapw July 13, 2007 at 12:34 am

Hmm..are these images being processed by them at all or are the lighting raw like that? I’m just curious…

I must say that I am very impressed with their work, pretty sweet stuff.

Webmaster Money July 13, 2007 at 1:48 am

Is that somehow automated to make that mosaic, I dont belive that you made it yourself, it is impossible… You cant have so much free time.

ritchie July 13, 2007 at 3:07 am

There’s plenty of really nice mosaic software out there.

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 12:32 pm

AndreaPlanet is a pretty cool ap

website copywriter July 13, 2007 at 3:07 am

I read the tutorial, quite easy to follow actually. You just save all your pictures, pick a matrix or main photo, and the program analyzes everything, does all the hard work for you. It’s pretty sweet.

Goob July 13, 2007 at 7:11 am

Yeah, I downloaded this a few minutes ago and had a look at it. It looks pretty straight forward.

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 12:33 pm

I had trouble uploading it to a post though. I think the file became too big.

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 12:31 pm

the process was really fast, the program does all the work.

Kolin July 13, 2007 at 3:15 am

What do you try to eat on this picture?

Adam July 13, 2007 at 4:06 am

Just to reply to some posts (on my brother’s behalf who made it):

Simon asked: Did you have to find each individual picture?

Yes, but it was easy with a search and then just a process of downloading them.

Swapw said: Hmm..are these images being processed by them at all or are the lighting raw like that? I’m just curious…

I’m pretty sure there’s some processing going on – tinting pictures etc by the looks of it. You can tell if you look closely as some pictures are repeated and look different.

Webmaster Money said: Is that somehow automated to make that mosaic, I dont belive that you made it yourself, it is impossible… You cant have so much free time.

Nope he doesn’t. AndreaMosaic is a great little programme but it still took a few attempts to get it looking good (even if the food does look like a big fried egg) and the more pictures the better. It took a little time to do but it was worth it and the results are impressive.

Bloggeries July 13, 2007 at 5:38 am

That’s impressive. I’ve seen similar things done in the past but to do it from photo’s you’ve posted yourself is outstanding. Congrats to the artist!

GuyLingo July 13, 2007 at 5:39 am

I’m an RSS reader too…isn’t everybody?

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 8:31 am

Hey, this is really cool. I just tried it on a picture of my son. I was having a proud Navy mom monent. I think I’ll post it today.

Debo Hobo July 13, 2007 at 8:44 am

Or not…seems the photo is too large for blogger to handle. Hmm Wordpress of Type Pad that is the question? Where shall I go next.

Stephanie @ PoorerThanYou July 13, 2007 at 11:17 am

The pic wouldn’t load the whole way in my RSS reader, so I had to come here to check it out! Yep, looks like an egg! ;)

Did anyone else have the same problem? Probably just my crappy connection.

chrisblogging.com July 13, 2007 at 11:31 am
