How I Look If I Was Made of Food
written by John Chow on July 12th, 2007
According to Life Goggles, my blog has over 240 photos of food! I know I love to eat but I didn’t know I’ve taken that many food pics. There are lots of things you can do with pictures of food. Life Googles thought it would be cool to turn all my food photo into a mosaic of me enjoying my food.
Click on the above image to see the hi-res image. The mosaic was created using Andrea Mosaic, a freeware program that lets you create your own photographic mosaics made with your own pictures.
Now watch everyone mosaic famous bloggers to get a plug.

Nice! Here’s a web-based mosaic generator that you don’t have to download…
http://imagemosaicgenerator.click42.com/
Thanks for the link, CW. I just downloaded the AndreaMosaic thing, it didn’t take a long time. I guess I’ll have to try both of them out.
Just tried out that link you suggested. It’s great and all, but all you can do is pick the matrix and the program provides all the tiled pictures for it. With AndreaMosaic, you can use your own pictures for the tiles.
That’s the one I tried. I liked it.
Thanks Cool Websites
life goggle, a cool site indeed
Thanks!
Cool picture John. Did you have to find each individual picture?
Keep it up.
Simon
life goggle will do it automatically
That’s pretty cool
a cool app indeed
Heh, in the mosaic the plate looks more like a gigantic fried egg
…with a partly burnt yolk? Oohh, not that appetizing LOL.
A Vogel Strauss egg
an egg indeed
Food … I am hungry after write this words..
i’m eating now!
They had a hotdog fundraiser at my job, I am stuffed to the gills.
Where is my dinner?
Impressive picture!
Yea, I’m getting hungry when I think what it is made of…
I am amazed each time I see a mosaic picture made by other pictures
there are clever people everywhere and i’m just sad that i’m not one of them
Hey, don’t say that about yourself. You are rockin’ Top Contributor
And thus John Chow the evil foodie artist is born, and the internet shall never be the same again.
he’ll eat us live
… and giant pandas and baby seals shall never be safe again. A fate worse than death, I tell you. A fate WORSE THAN DEATH!
Oh my!
Hmm..are these images being processed by them at all or are the lighting raw like that? I’m just curious…
I must say that I am very impressed with their work, pretty sweet stuff.

Is that somehow automated to make that mosaic, I dont belive that you made it yourself, it is impossible… You cant have so much free time.
There’s plenty of really nice mosaic software out there.
AndreaPlanet is a pretty cool ap
I read the tutorial, quite easy to follow actually. You just save all your pictures, pick a matrix or main photo, and the program analyzes everything, does all the hard work for you. It’s pretty sweet.
Yeah, I downloaded this a few minutes ago and had a look at it. It looks pretty straight forward.
I had trouble uploading it to a post though. I think the file became too big.
the process was really fast, the program does all the work.
An evil way of gaining a link back
An evil way to gain a back link
You think so? He’s done way more evil stuff. This one almost qualifies as innocent!
Wow, that looks pretty cool! Tasty too…
Steve
i’m an RSS reader
Me too!
Me Three!!!
me 4!
WOW! how testy it was?
Very cool. Unfortunately whenever I go out to eat now… I wonder if I should take a picture of my food and post it! haha!
What do you try to eat on this picture?
Just to reply to some posts (on my brother’s behalf who made it):
Simon asked: Did you have to find each individual picture?
Yes, but it was easy with a search and then just a process of downloading them.

I’m pretty sure there’s some processing going on - tinting pictures etc by the looks of it. You can tell if you look closely as some pictures are repeated and look different.

Nope he doesn’t. AndreaMosaic is a great little programme but it still took a few attempts to get it looking good (even if the food does look like a big fried egg) and the more pictures the better. It took a little time to do but it was worth it and the results are impressive.
That’s impressive. I’ve seen similar things done in the past but to do it from photo’s you’ve posted yourself is outstanding. Congrats to the artist!
I’m an RSS reader too…isn’t everybody?
Me too
me to
Cool Picture….
Your face has probably made some people hungry…as disturbing as that sounds.
Awesome program though!

Very nice picture! Hehe.
I read John Chow with RSS.
Cool pic.
BeachBum
I’m glad everyone liked it, the software is really the star (besides John of course…)
Holy crap, that’s cool!
That could turn into a movement in fine arts I guess!
That’s a lot of food, alright. Speaking of food posts, I haven’t seen any since that BluFur free lunch. I kinda miss it.
Jon, you are made of food
Food, mmmmm Today I’m going to finish off my Pizza Hut P’zone for lunch. Love those things.
Not only You…
Hey, this is really cool. I just tried it on a picture of my son. I was having a proud Navy mom monent. I think I’ll post it today.
Or not…seems the photo is too large for blogger to handle. Hmm Wordpress of Type Pad that is the question? Where shall I go next.
The pic wouldn’t load the whole way in my RSS reader, so I had to come here to check it out! Yep, looks like an egg!
Did anyone else have the same problem? Probably just my crappy connection.
I definitely have to try this out. That picture of you is pretty cool looking…
Very interesting, Old great Idea!
you look like mona lisa with a plate of hot dish on your hand, will you get framed up soon?
John
Thank you for this link. I have always down by myself using photoshop and would take several days if not weeks to do it by hand!
Bryan
Nice! I will have to try it out. I wonder how complicated such a system is to make…
Now very… With good graphics library ie. in Java it’s piece of cake
