How To Add A Google Buzz This Button Into Your WordPress Blog

Build Your Online Business Now

With all the buzz on Google Buzz, I decided it was time to integrate a “Buzz This” button into my blog the way I integrated my Tweet This button. While I don’t see Google Buzz exceeding Twitter anytime soon, I’m not blind to the increasing number of Buzz followers I have and the sheer marketing power Google processes. To ignore Buzz, or anything, from Google would be a big mistake.

The Buzz This Button

The Google Buzz This button allows your readers to Buzz your post to their followers. It works the same way as the Tweet This button. Adding the button to your blog is extremely easy. There are already a bunch of WordPress plugins that will do it for you. However, I feel the use of a plugin to do something that requires only one line of code to be an extremely poor use of resources. Instead, I just used the following code.

<a rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank” href=”http://www.google.com/reader/link?url=http://www.johnchow.com/<?php the_ID(); ?>&title=<?php the_title(); ?>”><img src=”http://www.johnchow.com/images/buzz.png” alt=”Buzz This” /></a>

Insert the above code (change the URL to your domain name and upload and link to your own Buzz image) to your WordPress single.php file at the point where you want the Buzz This button to show up. In my case, I have it appear right after the post and next to my Tweet This button.

The advantage of using a line of code instead of a plugin is less overhead. A simple line of code consume less resources than an entire WordPress plugin so your blog should run faster. However, if the thought of editing your blog HTML intimidates you, then go ahead and use one of the plugins.

Now, please buzz my post and tell me if it works! :)

This can be done with plugins.

Hey,

you can also check our newly launched service here:
http://njuice.com/button/

It also adds a real "firehose" counter of mentions on Buzz. We have a Wordpress plugin for easier installation.

very nice post

Adding 2 buttons i.e twitter and buzz may split the effect especially for a small blog like mine. If I have only twitter and 5% of users tweet my post then adding buzz will convert it to 3% each (numbers are hypothetical)

5% tweet may give me additional exposure by getting the post into tweetmeme homepage and other sites.

One more thing just checked ...

You are at no 5 of first page of Google for this keyword

How To Add A Google Buzz This Button

Yes putting extra pressure on your blog is not at all advisable when you can do such thing with the help of few lines.

Nice share John.

wow..useful info I was looking for a button the day Google launched buzz but couldn't find any cool goodies..this is useful information indeed

Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm going to add this button to each ads page on my web site.

Thats looking good, i am gonna ad it :D

Boy this one is going to rock the market ... lets hope and we can get the maximum use of it.

Thank you for this info, but i think i would wait a little until they smooth over the kinks on google buzz, I love google buzz but i still need to build up my neighbors on it and ease in my blogs.

John,

I almost check buzz every time I log into Gmail. It has become a habit, just like clicking on the Inbox link every time a new email arrives.

Also not to mention, that there are hundreds of gmail contacts in my address book :)

I can definitely see marketing potential in Buzz. Thanks for bringing the Buzz button to my attention. Definitely adding this to my blog. Great stuff as always!

I saw this buzz button on your blog the other day and was wondering exactly how to get one like that!!! Thanks a lot John!

O.K. so I guess you ccan delete my other comment where I originally asked for this info :-\

thanks for the tut man

I've test the buzz button and it seem to work fine and the msg appear in buzz list.

Good job :)

John, I am also glad to see you realized it only takes linking to your Google profile to create a "Follow me" button for Buzz, I did the same today too and just followed you. See ya on Buzz....

Nice plugin. I'm not ready yet to add this plugin to my sites cause the TweetMeMe is already there taking up space and I don't want a ton of these plugins all over the page.

I'm going to wait until Buzz actually works somewhat well and is easy to follow. I find it easier to follow on Twitter, Facebook and the other Social Media. I am able to follow you just fine through Google Reader, FB and Twitter without Buzz. I think of Buzz as just an aggregator right now.

Yeah it's basically FriendFeed done by Google. I wonder what they have planned for it - maybe it'll develop in the future.

Good stuff man thanks for the info

was searching the code. Thanks for this. Google buzz as I think is soon going to rock as twitter and moreover, its a google service. So no need to worry of its marketing aspect .

Hmmm, quite a few people talking about this Google Buzz now, very tempting - I may have to add that to my blog also.

Cheers for the post.

Yes you should board this flight today.

Hi John this is my first visit to your site and I am impressed by reading your ebook. Is there any opportunity add google buzz in blogspot blog.

I'm pretty sure you need a self-hosted blog to add Buzz.

Well blogspot and buzz both are Google products so I am sure you will be able to add Google buzz in your blogspot.

Ovi ... I found this one for you -

Yeah -- it is right that better to put code if the code is simple cause plugin can increase your blog load time.

But people who do not know even A B C and D of coding than for them plugin is the best option.

Just used it, worked. Make sure to change the " from the code as its italic and wont work that way.

i had 33 followers with google buzz, without doing anything. I think it's gonna be a huge hit.

I agree, I pulled 250 today alone and I have 600 more friends from other Google networked properties. Not to mention you can find my Google profile right in Google results by searching my name.

As I said in a reply above, I see my Google profile as my Google business card.

Thats why they promoted Google profile first and after that Google buzz.

Interesting.

Might as well get on to the bandwagon and start using Google Buzz, as it is not going to go away, and qwith Google's marketing clout behind it, is bound to be successful. Just the thought of having to manage another social media profile kills me.

Exactly my thoughts! Twitter/facebook now buzz.. man..

As a consultant on social media I can tell you every one of my clients using Facebook and Twitter all tell me conversion in both sucks. Their words, not mine.

So all I can say is that we shall have to wait and see what our analytics data returns. I can tell you this though, Buzz is based on your Google profile. On my profile are links to my sites, sales letters and squeeze page.

To me that is like my Google business card. I see way more conversion occurring from Buzz than I have seen from Twitter or Facebook in the last two years.

Both used to be great but Twitter especially has been ruined by robotic following software. Hope Google turns this all around with Buzz!

Good point, but Google Buzz is not about another social network, it is about a social media dashboard that allows you to follow your real friends from your Google Contacts list.

It is also a gold mine for Internet marketers, it gets people into their Gmail where our emails land. Anything that gets our subscribers into their Gmail more often only means we can see more conversions from our mailings.

What do you think?

Well you raise a valid point here but just one click by the users and you wont be able to land in their email.

I must say that Google is now very late. People are now addicted to twitter and facebook and picking them from such place will be a tough nut to crack for Google.

Not sure that I am going to add it.

Yeah, me neither. The only person I know with Buzz so far is John. I'd like to see some positive results from it before I add it to my blog.

Jack Humphrey, Armand Morin, myself and Robert Scoble have all reviewed it favorably. Here is a good Buzz conversation going on right now started by Ben Parr of Mashable.

Also I am testing linking to my Google profile in blog posts as I did here so those interested can follow my Google Buzz.

Hope the hear from you there. Thanks for this great idea John, I will be blogging this and linking to you tomorrow. - Chris Lang

I am not a fan of buzz but i think it will improve; i am working on it as well, will post an update soon! cheers

Oh really?we can do like that?I never know about it before until i read this post. Thanks John and I would like to add one at my site soon! :)

Yeah I think we should also learn these basic things so that we can manage our blog more efficiently and professionally.

That was a nice hack with google buzz installation. I like solution used without plugins.

You should also check other posts of John where he guided us about Twitter button as well.

Nice Post, I will be putting it within my site soon. Might as well do it now and roll with the Buzz trend!

Google Buzz would definitely be a great marketing tool. I'm sure that there would be a lot of products leveraging on the power of Google Buzz soon.

Yeah, but that hasn't happened yet! I'd like to see it gain traction in the market before spending too much time with it.

Many products of Google now a days is flopping such as Google wave and others.

Lets see how this is going ....

Main benefit they will have is Gmail integrated.
