How To Add Facebook Email Opt-In Form To Your Blog

Aweber has just come up with the coolest email opt-in feature ever! They’ve made it so any facebook user can sign up for your email list just by clicking a button. There’s no need for the user to enter their name or email address because that information is pulled from Facebook and pre-populated into the sign up form. The user just click the “register” button and he’s opted in!

Enabling Facebook registration for your Aweber sign up forms will automatically enter the name and email address of a visitor to your page as long as they are logged in to Facebook. Those not logged in to Facebook will simply see the normal web form. To see a demonstration on how this work, log into your Facebook account and click the image below.

Essentially, Facebook users will be able to subscribe to your list without touching their keyboards. This will greatly increase the amount of people subscribing to your blog because it lowers the barrier for entry to your mailing list. Visitors to your site don’t have to type anything in order to subscribe.

Email addresses collected this way are more likely to be valid and active, since the address that Facebook provides through the registration form is the same one that was used to sign up for the Facebook account. There is also no chance for typos. The email address is transmitted directly from Facebook to your Aweber web form.

How To Add The Facebook Opt-In Form

Adding a Facebook opt-in form is extremely easy. Log into your Aweber account and design a new web form. When you get to the web form properties, you’ll see a check book call Facebook Integration.

Check the box and complete your form design. When you place the form on your blog, the Facebook registration will be available. If your current sign up form is already 300 pixels wide, then you can add Facebook integration to it by going into your form properties and checking the Facebook box.

Neat. We use dotMailer and I’ve just found out that they offer similar functionality (and are a great UK ESP).

This is a pretty nice feature. I just switched to Aweber a couple weeks ago and love it much more than MailChimp.

I’ll probably implement the Facebook form but I wonder if it may discourage people from signing up if they don’t want to use their primary Facebook e-mail address to get newsletters. Sure they could sign out of Facebook and opt in manually but I wonder if people…

…Nevermind, I just noticed the little “x” that lets you clear the pre-filled Facebook data!

    Thanks for this info!

  9. No Limit says:

Would subscribers have to double opt-in using this facebook opt-in form?

    1. John Chow says:

@No Limit Yes, they still need to confirm that they want your emails.

  26. notagrouch says:

It’s worth noting (as John said), to log into Facebook before you click on that example, otherwise it won’t work. And presumably, and hopefully, your visitors are already logged in to FB as well when they get to your form so this works flawlessly.
